I love my Danner Mt. Defiance boots and Iron Rangers. Now I'm looking at getting some lower mids or some salomon/keen/merrell shoes. Ignore old AR and old Legion.

>Footware Edition

I like my Merell Moabs. They're comfy and durable. Mine are the waterproof ones so my only issue with them is my feat get hot sometimes. Not really a huge deal. When I eventually replace them I want to try out Solomon Quests. I have a buddy who has them and he swears by them. Says they're the best boot he's ever owned.

Reposting from last thread:

What's a decent asking price for this Eagle chest rig? I'm currently trying to sell it with the Eagle FB pistol pouches and MSM patch panel, but it's been so long since this was even a product Eagle was offering in Khaki that I'm not sure what's a fair price. I'm currently listing it for $90 but I don't know if that's too low or high.

I've tried both and have noticed a difference, obviously more so with the stiffer boot. I won't pretend to know more than others but that's been my experience; may be wrong. The other aspect is a lot of off trail wilderness areas have a decent bit of water/mud/sticks that the extra height has helped with. Also usually pack 30-55lbs and it does seem to prevent ankle rolls but transfers it higher up. Again, just my experience.

why even chime in if you have no idea what something is worth, nigger? it's a chest rig, barely anything has changed in the last 40 years. If you wanted to recreate this setup with a brand new velocity systems chest rig and pouches it would cost like $160.

Handling is quick/maneuverable and it fills my hand in a way that feels natural. I'm on it probably 80 percent of the time. Otherwise I'm gripping the magwell (especially during reloads). Neither my arm nor shoulder have felt overextended, which I'd probably notice given some recent surgery

I'm inclined to save the weight and remove it, but it's just too damn comfy

I remember someone posting a thread about this one holster a while back, but I can't seem to find the holster when I Google search.

Basically it was like a really minimalist modular nylon holster, but it had retention system built in similar to like an ALS lever that you had to depress to release the gun.

Anyone able to help me out?

Pig hydration is a dedicated hydration carrier and the Emdom can be used as a day/extra shit pack or a hydration carrier.

They both hold 2L bladders not (May fit a 3L chubby bladder).

Just chose if you want only hydration, or extra shit. The bulk won't make a ton of difference unless you're throwing a pack over it since they'll be similar sizes anyways.

If I get to him and have a safe lane, I stabilize best I can (I ain't no docta or nutin tho) and then probe my way to a path out. Once I'm out and clear I start panicking about wtf to do about long term care.

Speaking of which, i just got mine.

I'm a gear noob getting into gear after reading a couple of threads, the pastebin + other sources for a few weeks. So i decided to pick a chest rig because i don't have the money to buy plates right now and since i own a VZ58 I tought universal mag pouches like the tacos would be nice (planning on getting an AR15 later on but they are expensive in yurop).
I chose the AO because it wasn't too expensive and was made by a brand that seemed to have a good reputation + one taco pouch to check them out and see how well they'd fit my magazines.

Now i need to figure out if i want to carry 3 magazines with it or two + something else.

I think i'll put my IFAK on my belt with two other mags but i'm not sure yet.

The taco pouches are nice and i didn't have too much trouble with the alice straps.

I also need to practice reloading with this setup now.
>>
>>34949689
Also what is the best way to deal with the exess adjusting straps? i was thinking about using cable ties to hold them tight.
>>
>>34949689
I'm in the same boat as you, but with a very different approach. I keep my spare mags (two) on my belt with my pistol, and in my SKS chicom rig I keep a bunch of clips. figure that if I'm only carrying just a few mags, might as well easily carry some clips too. running 4-8 extra mags would change things obviously but this is my approach to poorfag VZ running
>>
>>34949705
Having a couple clips could be nice yeah, i have some but never use them. Maybe i could keep some in my bag for easy reload if my mags are empty.
Nice to see i'm not the only one using a VZ58.
>>
>>34949714
yeah that's the main reason to even use them. I've gotten pretty good with them, but I still don't rely on them for highspeeds stuff. they're insanely helpful for reloading mags after shooting though. I'll load 50-100 clips before I go to the range, and then just load the mags through the gun every time. I don't think I've even once single-loaded my VZ mags.
>>
>>34949702
Electrical tape works pretty well. Be careful with zip ties, as they can make for nasty snag or run points.

How many of you run your ifak on a belt if you have some sort of torso gear?
I recently got an old Nam belt for a buck and my ifak fits on it snug and personally I like having it able to stay on me if I have to ditch my rig for whatever reason.
Also it seems to snag less and my arms dont brush against it 24/7 but I mostly got it for hiking and I dont want to stuff the ifak in a bag.

because most of the surplus came from the draw down after the cold war ended. We don't have as many troops being no longer necessary so the militaries of the world aren't voiding old out of date gear. The US also gives a fuck load of surplus shit to other countries, most of the woodland camis went to afganistan.

on top of that people who run surplus stores are often not really that knowledgeable about the gear and are too lazy/its not worth the effort to go out and source things. The good surplus stored buy stuff directly from vets who liberated it from government ownership.

Hey anons just wanted to share a recent experiemce trying out ww1 style puttees.

Ordered some modern repro british puttees on a whim last week after doing a research paper on post ww1 us army. They are the full length 9 ft x 4in. Decided to try them out on the AT trail for a few days(i live nearby the trail in VA). Walked a total of 20 miles over 4 days on various grades of terrain. I wore broken in garmont t8 boots i purchased recently, kuhl kontra air pants, and carried a pack that weighed 25lbs with various camping equipment.

I wrapped the puttees from ankle to upper calf. They were nice and snug, not too tight and loose enough that i could run and such without it pulling on pants. It feels like wearing thick long wool socks.

Now for the review. The garmont boots already keep my feet snug, without any slipping or heel lift. With the puttees, there is definitely more stability in the ankle area, i would say ankle stability went from 30% to 60%. When going down steep declines, it prevented my ankles from rolling, while still giving me mobility to feel the ground and move my feet in any direction i needed quickly. When wrapped properly it allows knee area of pants to bend correctly unlike when you blouse pants into boots and the boots feel like they are pulling pants down. During rain, it kept pants from knee down dry. It didnt catch onto any brush l, nor was it damaged when going through rough terrain. Sort of side benefit is that it prevents shoe laces from being caught and pulled loose. I felt reduced fatigue in my legs and feet due to the increased stability. Lastly, they are breathable and i didnt notice any increase in sweat build up in my boots.

I will probably wear these from now on when I hike. I can imagine the benefits of using these in the snow or desert. I didnt have any issues sprinting with them on, they stayed in place and never loosened. And they can be used as a bandage wrap or sling if needed.

>>

weight* now I'm retarded
>>
>>34957442
The A2 barrel profile has about a quarter pound of unnecessary weight all the way at the front of the gun, where it hurts handling the most, and having an ultra-light stock at the back exacerbates the problem.
The handguard with no top rail is only a fraction of an ounce lighter than the normal version, but makes it considerably harder to put stuff on the handguard and was probably more expensive.
The big mag release is going to snag on something and dump your magazine at the worst possible time, most ARMS products are trash, and even the best Aimpoint Micro clone is still just a placeholder for the real thing; it might work fine, but it seems fair to hold people to a higher standard in an autistic LARPing thread like this.
>>
>>34957520

Do you conduct drills? Or train at all? A few ounces of weight in the front will more than likely help with recoil and follow on shots

There are some insight LED drivers out there that are compatible with it, and could theoretically be used to convert it.

I just wasn't comfortable fucking with it, since it's gray market (read: no warranty if I break it), and the LED bulbs were tough to find now that insight discontinued a lot of their weapon lights, and all their pistol lights.

I just gave up on using an IR laser/light on a handgun. It's not really a priority since I've got my 10.5" setup how I like it.

Ive used slip on gaiters before, and they sucked. After reading a bit about the puttees it seems the major reason it got canned from use in military is they took forever to wrap. I mean, if anon says they increase stability in ankles, and they essentially serve the same purpose as gaiters, then these might be added to my hiking and shtf gear.

>>34962723im mostly wondering because I have a MOLLE compatible 3L hydration pack (both can be worn by itself or strapped to a PC).

Do you have any experience wearing one independently over a PC? It seems like the straps overlapping each other would turn into a huge pain in the ass
>>
>>34962801
the two ends of this are
A) its 1 system its simple to work with just put it on and roll
B) its 1 system so you have to take off your plate carrier to deal with anything thats on your back

Make your choice, I tried the whole attach everything to my PC for a while, hated it.

Any recommendations on alternatives for the Kifaru E&E? I´m looking for a simple and small daypack, full zip panel loading is a must. Not interested in condor tier shit,
>>
>>34962815
Interesting, thanks for the info. Any thought on the removable shoulder pads? I've no clue what the point of them are
>>
>>34962815
Summed up pretty nicely, I'd add:

Straps on straps on straps on straps is fucking AIDS and will make you go mad, the less straps on straps on straps you have the better. Even "just" a PC + shoulder straps + rifle sling = AIDS. And if you happen to have to take some extra shit on top of that, say haul some shoulder bags or backpacks = MULTI AIDS.

My favourite solution is simple: a quick detach daypack (there´s many different designs out there) that you can don and doff on your own. This gives you the best of both worlds. If you keep it lightweight enough you will only get a bit of AIDS when redonning it on your own, but it's very much doable.
>>
>>34962964
Not the other anon but it's purely for comfort's sake and helps with heavier loads. If you wear cold weather gear they might not be needed but if you have a heavy load and are wearing relatively normal clothes then the shoulder pads can be worth it to stop excessive rubbing on your shoulders
>>
>>34940820

Anon, why are you using multicam with a Norwegian flag? You can't be a part of the Norwegian Armed Forces, since they use Norwegian Woodland Camo. Judging from your loadout I'd say that you're doing milsim, airsoft or just LARP'ing.. Which is it?

$120 has been the normal. Just happened to be browsing packs one day when the full disgust of that 5.11 abortion I have set in and saw them running that sale for like 35% everything.

To be fair, I've seen much more expensive packs offer much less.

Don't fall for the Quest 4D meme. I did, and I've had 2 pairs separate at the sole and/or leak water after less than 20 miles on them.

People don't like them anymore, because they are fags, but every pair of Merrell MOAB mid cuts with the goretex have lasted me years on end and hundreds of miles.

No idea what differentiates the mil from the ones you can get in local stores/online retailers. That probably means not the mil ones? Regardless, a boot that expensive shouldn't shit the bed that quickly under what I would call very mediocre trail use.

the forces ones come in subdued colors so just straight black or brown, and I kinda just assume a bit more QC/quality materials used but could be wrong.

That's as good a reason as any to get them. I find both pretty comfortable after a few miles of break in. I've got to assume that even the retail 4Ds have to be better quality than I experienced given their reputation. I must have gotten two pairs from the special ed factory.

What's a good do it all ballistic plate for the price? I'm looking for armor to wear going to/from work since I seem to always be at the center of every Antifa chimp out. Usually they have pistols and an SKS every now and again. The chances of me getting shot at are minimal so I'm not looking for the best shit on the market. Would AR500 be adequate?

Buy some ceramic level 4 plates but if youre being shot at by antifa with rifles on your way to work you need more than body armor.
>Also, what's wrong with AR500?
Its not good for armor uses, AR500 and all of the """"""""""""""""level 3+"""""""""""""""""""" plates constantly suffer from recalls because rounds will randomly penetrate them.
