I live in CA but I really want to buy a JRA BM59.
However, afaik they only ever made 20 round magazines for it. Where would I get blocked 10/20 magazines?

QTDDTOT thread as well since the older one is about to die.

How much heat can barrels take before they lose their temper?

Reading about silver soldering to make a muzzle device permanent per the ATF but this process basically require heating the barrel with a torch until it is nearly red.
>>
>>34928341
Soldering isn't welding. What the fuck are you doing that you need to get the barrel red hot to melt silver solder?
>>
>>34928341
Just pin the thing. It's less permanent than soldering too.
>>
>>34928353
Bro, you're confusing the soldering done on copper tubing and silver soldering which is used for ferrous metals.

Look at how a master does it.
https://youtu.be/CJwSmTfZF4Q?t=273
>>
>>34928357
well, in that case, just use blue loctite. Neither is acceptable per ATF rules, so go for the easies.

Make your own or have someone make them for you

Better yet don't be a cuck and tell CA to shove it
>>
>>34928367
Ah, brazing. Yeah, that gets a little hotter than soldering. It's a localized heat, it shouldn't be a problem. I'd say play the flame mostly across the flash hider and just let the solder pull into the threads. It may not be as strong as a thorough hearing, but it doesn't need to be.
>>
>>34928367
but per ATF requirements, 1100F silver solder can be used (not the low temp 400F stuff).

Still, at 1100F you're not going to affect the properties of the metal unless you keep it at that temp for hours. You dont need to heat it until glowing with an oxy-acetylene torch like in the vidya
>>
>>34928476

1100 F for 15 minutes on one spot of the exposed metal won't significantly change the hardness of the metal, if at all. It might cause some finishes to flake or become discoloured, but it won't cause the barrel to explode or split open.

Can anyone recommend me a 150 grain 30 caliber lead casting bullet mold? I want to use it in both 30-06 and 30-30, maybe even a nugget as well if possible.

I just started reloading to save money on 30-06, but I realized that bullets are so expensive to buy that it doesn't drive the cost per round down much. I looked into lead casting, but places that sell molds don't say what grain weight the bullets will be. (I know it will vary based on your alloy, but at least a starting point, maybe what it weighs with 100% pure lead, would be nice).

Can someone with a milled AK47 and a set of calipers tell me the width of their receiver to the nearest millimeter, or 1/16", just above the pistol grip? Pic related.

Or, even better, if someone happens to have a milsurp underfolder assembly lying around, could you tell me the outside diameter and total length of the center support pin? Once again, to the nearest millimeter, or 1/16".

Hey anons, wondering if anyone can answer this question. Can a featherweight 30-06 22in barrel hit out to 1000 yards?

No matter how much i google i cant find an answer. I wont be able to test it out myself until winter when i go to my familys land. I believe I can hit out to 1000 with a featherweight, since my rifle can currently do .5-1moa all the way to 300 which is the furthest my range goes, but these are all cold bore 2 shot groups. Anything more and groups spread from the heat. I would just like some second opinions.

Will you ever go innawoods with it?

If so, skip the extended release. I had one kinda like your picture (not one of the really long paddle types, even) and dropped a mag while on a hunting trip while climbing through some brush.

Had no idea I lost it until I went to take a 2nd shot.

Removed that extended release as soon as I got home.

If it is just bench shooting or plinking out in the open, just get whatever one you want. The extended paddle type do make it a lot easier to change mags by just hitting the release with your trigger finger without changing your grip on the rifle.

Why couldn't it?

and "hit" what?
if it is truly a 1moa gun, that's just a hair over 10 inches at 1000 yards.

As you said, the barrel will heat up FAST, so accuracy will quickly degrade in a string of shots.

One other consideration is whether your scope and/or mount has enough elevation adjustment to use it at 1000 yards. You could be looking at more than a 30 foot drop at that distance.

I don't see why it being a featherweight would matter since barrel thickness/weight mostly only matters for heat buildup and recoil mitigation.

>>
Does anyone have the greentext about putting on a car costume with working headlights and running at deer with a bowie knife
>>
>>34934312
depends who you ask. Some will say the terms are interchangeable.

Some will say something along the lines of:

muzzle brake -- mitigates the rearward recoil by directing gasses rearward

compensator -- mitigates muzzle rise by directing gasses upward

And of course there are muzzle devices that dampen both recoil and muzzle rise

30-06 and 30-30 are .308 dia
7.62x54R is 310 dia.
With lead casting there is a velocity limit, but can be increased with hardened lead via quenching, alloy, poly coat, gas checks.
I suggest you go with a heavier weird especially with 30-06 due to velocity.
Best place to get moulds is online, look at grafs.com and midwayusa.com.
>>
>>34935989
that's a toss up. really depends upon specifics.
Chances are the rugers are a better deal, but condition, does the 22 have a mag cylinder too, etc.

VZ2008 -- CAI -- definitely try before you buy.

Stainless is steel alloyed with chromium. It's inherently highly corrosion and rust resistant. It never "wears off" because the corrosion resistance is a property of the metal itself, not a finish. However finishes can still be applied on top of the stainless steel. It's very slightly softer than carbon steel due to the chromium.

Nitride is carbon steel that's been treated with hot nitrogen salts to form a hard corrosion resistant outer layer. Some types of nitride finishes are also naturally low friction. Most most modern "blued" finishes are nitride.

Oxide is a thin layer of intentionally induced black rust that prevents the carbon steel from rusting beyond the oxide layer. It's cheap and easy to do. Older "blueing" refers to oxide.

Blueing in general refers to any chemical process that forms a protective barrier over steel.

When selling guns about how much of a hit should I expect to take?

I bought a Maverick 88 as my first and am looking to get rid of it since I rarely find places where I can shoot it and I've since learned I much prefer rifles and handguns/revolvers anyways. I'd be including an upgraded butt pad, 200-300 assorted shells and a plastic ammo can, if that helps.

Thanks. I wasn't really banking on the nugget, it would just have been a nice bonus. And the reason I wanted a smaller grain weight is so I could use the same mold for 30-06 and 30-30. As for the place to buy them, I'm mostly going to be plinking with these so I'm not picky about quality.

My problem is that all the mold selling pages I've found so far don't tell you what weight the bullets will be. I was going to buy Lee because that's what my other equipment is so far http://leeprecision.com/bullet-casting/rifle-bullet-molds/ but there's no mention of weight. I know it varies by alloy but at least a ballpark would be nice.

I'll check out those other sites

I'm still learning to shoot and I'm wondering why it's so much harder for me to shoot DA/SA pistols than striker pistols. I kind of like the idea of having an external hammer, but in practice my groupings go from 'ok' to horrible.
>>
>On 7 October 1780, the two armies clashed during the Battle of Kings Mountain. The battle went badly for the Loyalists positioned high on the mountain ridge, and during the fighting, Ferguson was shot from his horse. With his foot still in the stirrup, he was dragged to the rebel side. According to Rebel accounts, when a Patriot approached the major for his surrender, Ferguson drew his pistol and shot him as a last act of defiance. Other soldiers retaliated, and Ferguson's body was found with eight musket holes in it. Patriot accounts said their militia stripped his body of clothing and urinated on him before burial. They buried him in an oxhide near the site of his fall.

Why is war so fucking gay?

Its probably due to your trigger pull, you can practice a smoother pull on SA/DA hammer guns by balancing a coin near your front sight while pulling the trigger.
>>
>>34939886
I have a Glock 19 and I pretty much want a DA/SA gun just so I can dry fire without racking the slide

Honestly I would still vote for getting a DA/SA gun over this but it's an option.

Walmart-tier.
>>
>>34939886
It's definitely my trigger pull. The instructor tricked me by loading a dummy round as the first round in the mag, and I could clearly see the muzzle slightly dip down and to the left (right handed shooter) and I'm not sure how to stop doing that.

While I'm on the subject, I have some questions about stance. I was told to square my body up to the target and try and make a triangle with my arms and keep everything loose, but it feels very unnatural and it's hard to keep the gun steady and line up my sights, I also feel like the gun is going to leap out of my hands and I have to frequently adjust my grip.

I've noticed that I have a tendency to want to stand with my left food a bit ahead and my right foot twisted out, with my right arm fully extended and the right side of my jaw resting on my right shoulder. It feels very natural for me, and everything feels steadier and more accurate, and I have an easier time keeping the sight picture, but is this a bad habit to get into? It's very hard to not do, because that's how my feet are positioned normally when I'm just standing.
>>
>>34940014
Whatever feels good, shooting stances change fore the times.

I would say try not to fully extend your arms as it lessens your bodys ability to absorb recoil.

As well as try not to have your chin on your arm as it will further disrupt your sight picture.
>>
>>34939991
They didn't specially say fair condition. I called and they just said it's used and has some signs of wear. Also where are you finding these s&w deals?

>>34939977
Imma put 115 rounds thru you
>>
>>34940051
Really? I feel like it made it easier for me to handle recoil when my arm was in a straight line. Instead of the gun trying to rotate in my hands, it was more straight back along my arm and I could just rock back with it by changing the angle of my knees. I roll my head down to my arm (they kind of meet in the middle actually) so I can align my left eye with the sights since that's my dominant eye.

I was also told that because of that I should probably learn to shoot rifles with my left hand. Is that true?
>>
>>34940081
If your gun is rotating in your hand you need to work on your grip.

Since you are cross dominant you may as well just keep doing whatever gives you a good sight picture as being cross dominant sucks for shooting sports (I am myself)

For rifles you have three choices.
1) Get used to using your right eye
2) Get used to operating a right handed rifle with your left. (Mostly a problem with bolt actions)
3) Spend way too much money and time finding left handed actions.
>>
>>34940111
It wasn't rotating so much as trying to. I think the gun might have been a bit too large for my hands so I wasn't able to get as much up on it as I'd have liked, but when shooting from the triangle stance the gun was definitely moving upwards, while in the 'weaver' stance the sights remained on the target.
>>
I'm trying to make my Glock 19 more comfortable to carry. I've been carrying my LCP2 around mostly and just don't like only having 6 rounds of .380 (and a backup mag), not to mention I don't like the fact that I can really only shoot 2 mags of my LCP before it starts hurting my hand.

I ordered a Galco Kingtuk IWB holster to break up the weight of the gun, now i think I'm going to get a new belt as well. This is what I'm using now

http://www.desantisholster.com/ECONOBELT-1-12?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cse&utm_term=E25BJ46Z3&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIy6-624fr1QIVTCOBCh3U_Q0jEAQYASABEgLKjPD_BwE

I think I'm gong to get one of those faggy nylon belts so I have complete adjust-ability instead of having to conform perfectly to a set of holes. Which belt do you recommend?

Are these good? https://www.midwayusa.com/product/2526141222/wilderness-tactical-5-stitch-instructor-belt-nylon

>at least x32
if it is a very high quality spotting scope, you might get away with something as low as 32x.

the cheap ones, even 60x might be hard to identify .22 holes in paper.

I'd recommend the Celestron C90 if it is for bench/range work. It is no good for carrying in the field though: too bulky and not ruggedized.

You'd have to spend a lot more to get a similarly capable one for field use.

What the fuck? 30-30 and 30-06 have the same bullet diameter but 7.62x54r is different, even though 30-06 is technically 7.62x63 and 30-30 is technically 7.8x51r? So Mosin food is technically not really 7.62 mm wide even though it says it is, but 30-30 is 7.62 mm even though the metric number says it's 7.8?

What in the actual fuck? Are they just rolling dice when they come up with these numbers?

hey all, last time I went skiing I used my pic related rucksack as it was nice and waterproof.

On some days I could ski in just salopettes and a tshirt, however colder/snowing days I needed my big ski jacket.

Anyway, my main question is; How do Gorkas fare in the following categories?

>Waterproof/resistance
>Breathability
>Warmth (i would rather not too warm since i'll have under-layers
>bulkiness

any help would be great thanks, otherwise i'll just wear my standard ski gear.

Talked to my dad today and he said his buddy got him a deal for "a 7mm Mauser and an M1 Garand" for $750 in total. I have no pics yet. Even if the two are sporterized beyond recognition is this something to look forward to?

It's some thing with a pawn shop, the guy he's buying it from is currently using it as an asset and if the pawn shop values just the Garand at about $400 then it oughtta be worth upwards of $1,000. Right? I'm not so interested in the Mauser but it's a package deal.

Hey /k/,

Guns only for a while want to change.

I want to get a Compound bow soon so I can try my hand at archery.

Are basic bitch sets they sell at cabelas/dicks any good for starters? (in 300-400 range)

What will I need other than bow?

Is letting store help me set up bow a bad idea? I literally know nothing about it at this point and dont have the tools.

What kind of maintenance do bows need?
>>
>>34944409
Oh additionally I am left eye right handed cross eye dominant. Dont know if that matters.

>>
>>34944127
>Waterproof/resistance
it'll hold it's own in a drizzle, but don't swim in it or expect to last a super long time in proper rain
>Breathability
it's a windsuit, 0 breathability
>Warmth (i would rather not too warm since i'll have under-layers
it's warmer than fatigues because of lack of breathability but don't expect it to insulate you much- any heat is usually generated by you or underlayers
>bulkiness
bulkier than fatigues but it's not a winter coat, comparable to a medium jacket usually
>>
>>34944445
okay thanks, i'm sorry you just mist quints mate.

I wanted it resistant to snow, somewhat breathable and not too warm.

thanks for the info, i'll just stick with my ski gear, i just wanted something potentially lighter and easier to pack.
>>
>>34944424
Just get a left handed bow.
A release is pretty mandatory for a compound bow.
A arm guard is good to have until you have good form
Arrow puller is handy
Quiver and extra arrows are always good (they get lost really fucking easy)

I've been out of archery for a while but PSE used to be the go to for basic compounds.
>>
>>34944409
Compound bows teach bad habits.
Learn with a recuve, and grow the skills from there.

Besides, you can get a decent takedown recurve for 1/3 that of a compound bow, that effectively has no resale value in 8 months time.

what does the buffer do in a ar-15?

Its a weight that in combination with a recoil spring, slows and returns the bolt to a locked position.

.308 is 7.8mm if you just do a straight metric conversion, the names usually come from how it is measured, like measuring a mosin bore on the lands of the rifling might produce a measurement of 7.62mm even though the bullet is really 7.8 or whatever

It's not too late to save your soul anon, get yourself some character. Get yourself some funs.

If you're looking for something like 30-30, I think you can find some under $400 if you're lucky. 357 should run you at least 400-450 for a Rossi, and closer to 600+ for a Henry.
Everything else seems to run over 800 and I don't really follow the prices on them. .45 and .44 should generally run you cheaper than .357, and .45 gives you cowboy points if you care about that.

That's not specific enough. At least give us a price range, range you'll probably be shooting at, and preferred type of action. You could hunt elk with anything from a multi-thousand dollar precision rifle to a bubba'd, rebarrelled Mauser you picked up at a pawn shop, as long as you tested to make sure it's reasonably accurate.

>>34938371
As a range toy no, as a practical gun yes. You lose too much velocity and gain a lot of noise but I do want a ptr 91 sbr just for the lolz
>>
>>34938692
Century Arms made a C93 for awhile. They were actually one of the few good century guns made.
>>
>>34935158
I have an older century m70ab2 underfolder. Functions great. Plenty accurate. Never had a problem. Picked it up for pretty cheap like 8 years ago. Just my opinion.
>>
>>34951305
In America it's barrel length, less than 16" is a carbine HOWEVER if the barrel + permanently fixed muzzle device is 16" then it's still rifle.
>>
>>34950670
does that budget include the optic?

My Mini-14.
>>
>>34951305
"Carbine" isn't a legally defined term. If it has a stock and the barrel's over 16", it's a rifle. If it has a stock and the barrel's under 16", it's an SBR and needs a tax stamp. If it has no stock, or just a "wrist brace", it's a pistol and can have as short a barrel as you like.

The caliber is totally irrelevant. You can have a 9mm rifle, and a .223 pistol. It's all about stock and barrel length.
>>
>>34953104
It's a bit more complicated than that. If you take something originally manufactured as a rifle, remove the stock, and the OAL is still long enough it's still considered a rifle. This is why people cannot make the equivalent of a serbu super shorty by starting with a full sized shotgun.
>>
>>34952997
how do you like it?
>>
>>34949822
I was hoping there was something more purpose built designed for the gun rather than a stock that just tries to emulate another gun.
>>
>>34953104
so then why do they sell glock carbine adapters at the store like they're just an accessory if they turn your pistol into a felony?

It's a bit heavy, but a straight shooter. Usually 1-1.5 MoA (which is OK for a Mini-14 with the factory barrel). It's my favorite rifle, mostly because it's so unique.

It runs reliably now, but I had some issues with the Ruger steel magazines (follower tilt and double feed). In addition to that the extractor broke because I used steel cased ammo for a while.

Now I use brass ammo only and made the switch to Tapco Gen II magazines. No issues since then.

>>34954023
You are correct. It's an expensive project. In my defense I have tried nearly all the chassis systems and aftermarket stocks for the Mini-14. The Archangel series as well, which fit OK, but felt "wrong" in my hands.

It's a cool project, but not something I'd recommend unless you have extra cash to spend or live in Norway (or California/New York) like I am.

Honestly, it's a shit ton of fun to shoot, I've taken it with me multiple times on hog hunts in texas, it puts even the largest of porkers down in one shot, provided I do my part. I've hunted Elk in New Mexico with it, to great success, I just gotta get closer to them than I do with my 700.

>>34960411
Good stuff. I had a PTR but was pretty dissatisfied with it. Do you shoot it with optics? I'm thinking if I get it it will be my ultimate mall ninja gun, and maybe get an ACOG or PVS.
>>
>>34955347
Are you shooting offhand or from the bench?
What ammo are you using.
Is your RFB (or is that a RDB) capable of shooting as accurately a you want? (have you tested it on a sled/vice)
>>
>>34960633
I do, I tried a few optics, and eventually settled on a Vortex 2-7x32 to use the forward rail that's already mounted on it. I have a few issues with eye relief out of it, but all it all it works.

Oddly enough I'm talking with a machining buddy who has access to a 3 axis mill, waterjet, lathe, etc, and I'm going to end up replacing the forward rail with one that mounts to the forward rail points, and the sadlack mount, that has Picatinny throughout. it's a bit of a pain, but it'lll be worth it to put higher quality mid glass on it, that doesn't have as much reticle wiggle, or lensing.

I can't mount much other than a scope, as I have the original Socom, not the xboxhueg socom2 with 53 extra lbs in railzz. I did manage to mount a Harris bipod underneath with some work via dremel.... it's kinda funny because the legs of it stick out further than the barrel when folded up.

Mall Ninja, sure they are fucking easy to do with that particular rifle, but overall, they're super functional, and bloody accurate for their intended purpose, and honestly, just make a great special purpose tool.

I'm super poor but want to activate my 2nd amendment powers. Should I get a Rough Ryder single action revolver in .22lr/.22 wmr or a highpoint in 9mm or .45acp? Serious about this.

>>34962952
hipoints are nigger tier but they can take a fucking pounding man.
>>
>>34962952
.22 is cheap and plentiful
>>
>>34962952
22lr is the cheapest round by a significant margin so you get more bangs for your buck. With 9mm or ACP you get a louder bang for your buck. Additionally, a hipoint is unreliable shit.
So if you're just going to the range and aren't as concerned about self defense get a .22, if you are looking for self defense get a 9mm but save up and get literally anything but a hi point.
