Would full color image intensifiers be a suitable alternative to traditional night vision as wearable Night Optics Devices, even with the lack of IR sensitivity?

I'm kind of interested about this. kind of neat but I'd need to do more research on the color intensifiers.
With full color, that means giving up IR lasers and torches, but you can also see plain as day, so it's kind of a situational compromise, I think.

Many cameras / image intensifiers are IR sensitive, just not very depply though. Also most image intensifier cameras aren't that great; the ones in OP's pic is from the SPI X27, which isn't that big, but I think you'd be wishing for NVGs after 15 minutes of running around while wearing it + the necessary counterweight.
They don't give specs for its size and weight, but it's probably not far off from mounting a handheld laser designator to your forehead.

They're still IR sensitive and can see IR lasers and beacons

I think the current problem is that they require a very large lens to work properly compared to traditional NVGs. But it'll definitely replace today's night vision some day. They should really try it on tanks or something large first

That's bitchin
