Is it worth buying a Polymer80 80% Glock 19?
Ive never built a handgun but want something to carry. The 80% is $149 but how much more it cost to buy the rest of the parts?
It's only worth it if you live somewhere that makes it difficult to get a serialized handgun, or if you really want to build a glock from the frame out.
>>34926435
What part of it would have to be transferred through an FFL?
>>34926504
They are basically selling you a piece of polymer, not a gun,you have to do the milling yourself, I dont know shit about guns so...
>>34926496
Would it be cheaper to build one or buy one?
>>34926611
Police trade ins are 350$ so probably not and youd still need most of a glock to make this

i built one, >>34926611
and no it was not, but i enjoyed making it and not waiting 10 days and da gubment not knowing abot it
>>34926611
Cheaper to buy. But that's not the point.
>>34926435
I just built one and have put about 500 rounds through it so far. It's finally approaching Glock reliability (lots of out of battery for the first few hundred, problem decreased as it got broken in). I used a hand drill and a file though, so if you have the right tools, yours might not take as long to make. I built it because 1) I'm under 21, so this was a legal way to own a handgun, 2) it looked fun (it was), and 3) it wasn't too expensive thanks to some well priced slides/parts on Midway. If you do it, i would suggest getting the compact (G19) instead of the full sized. They improved it by making the rear slide rails metal instead of having to mill the polymer.

Meant, "yours might not take as long to break in." Because I was hand fitting the parts and slowly taking off material with a file, the tolerances on my rear rails were pretty tight. Although you could definitely make it faster than I did too.
>>34926504
None of it. That's the point of 80% receivers.
>>34926435
That depends on what you consider worthwhile.
>do I like the features the frame comes with enough to justify the extra time and expense over a used G19?
>Is buying a used G19 difficult due to age or shithole-government restrictions?
You're looking at a bare minimum of around $600 to assemble a usable firearm from the Polymer80 kit (assuming you already have the basic hand tools necessary for completing the rest of it)
>$150 for the 80% frame and jig kit
>$170-$500+ for a stripped slide depending on whether you want OEM/OEM profile/milled for RMR and lightened/etc
>$120 for upper parts kit
>$80-$400+ for a barrel depending on whether you want OEM or a threaded match-grade barrel or something gimmicky
>at least $80 for sights (I suppose you could put cheap OEM sights on it....but why?)
>$25-$200+ for a trigger assembly
I fully intend to build one if Polymer80 ever releases a full-size frame set up like the compact and not the abortion that's their gen1 full-size.
So what's the process on selling these completed 80% lowers after you get tired of it?
>>34927904
If you're in a free state do whatever you normally would. If not free state then move.
>>34926504
>80% lower
>FFL

PF940 full size is going to be out next month iirc.

Last I checked...
You can make a firearm for your own personal use without being an FFL as long as it does not violate any state or federal laws
You can't transfer a gun you made unless you're an FFL
Worth it?
If you're paranoid, want a small project to tinker with, or don't want to go through hassles (live in non-free states) of getting specific glock colors or overall glocks, go for it.
The factory glock slides and uppers have gone up in price and supply on the low side due to the popularity of the polymer80.
I guess if you were to go custom from the get go vs. buying a new glock AND THEN swapping out for aftermarket stuff, you might save money in the end. But the market on used glocks kind of puts the price of buying a whole glock more cost effective than polymor80 route.

Depends on the state. In California Arnold fucked the handgun roster such that new model handguns are hard to get, a Glock 19 goes for about $3500 where I live since the only sellers are scalper cops.
>80% anything
Why not just buy the fucking gun?

Hey I only paid $600 for an LCP so it's not that bad.

They're doing a good job convincing me...
Why is this posted itt?
PF940 (G17) v1 is a defective piece of shit. I learned a lot and it was very interesting, but ultimately a big letdown since it just doesn't fucking work right. Obv I didn't save any money on it, either. I don't know if the PF940c (G19) v1 are also defective pieces of shit or not. Same goes for the PF940 v2. Given that poly80 DGAF about their customers who bought the PF940 v1 and are unhappy with the results, I'm not inclined to do any more business with them.
>>34929552
nigger you're in the wrong thread
>>34932373
Not shilling for them because you definitely had to modify the original frames to maybe get them to work right; plenty of people ended up screwing them up inadvertently. Though, I agree with P80 not at least having an upgrade or refund program for the original frames-- they released an unfinished and quite frankly, an ugly product that people didn't want to see come out. I'm pretty disappointed with it, but at least I got it on sale.
However, I haven't heard anything bad from anyone building out the Compact variant. There's a few incompatibilities with some ZEV products though IIRC.
>>34932487
>but at least I got it on sale.
I pre-ordered it, which was still like $156 with shipping and tax, hence being pretty unhappy with it. I ended up buying a complete glock brand glock G17 lower for that price later on so that my overpriced G17 upper didn't completely go to waste.
>However, I haven't heard anything bad from anyone building out the Compact variant.
That's neat. I hope it works out for people and poly80, but I'm still going to hold a grudge for a long time.

just get this desu
>>34932584
Don't blame you. I've been waiting on getting the compact for the exact same reason, but so far I've heard nothing.
I'm going to wait until Black Friday sales to pick the compact up. Next year the full size I guess. I have a long list of things I really, really want on sale.
>>34926435
I got two of the full sized lowers on sale for $60 each. Unfortunately, I'll probably have to spend close to $500 each to put them together. It's hard to find dirt cheap Glock components.
>>34932373
That's why I went with Matrix's 80% Sig. I just feel better about milling aluminum over polymer, plus the p229 is just more forgiving to diy-ers. I think they're dropping an aluminum glock lower next year, too.
>>34929285
I've heard that every month since Thanksgiving.
