Hey guys.

Looking to get a .308 rifle to make some squirrels into paste. I have a SKS, AR15, Beretta 92, Nagant Revolver. Logical step seems to be a .308 rifle.

Im looking at all these models and the differences seem negligible besides the gucci model. Anyone have any insight?

The only real difference is barrel, match bull or hk tapered.

The rest are features like rails or barrel length.

Pretty much what the other guy said. The barrel, rail, furniture, and finish are the major differences. The GI models come with the steel lower.
>>
Why get a semiauto for squirrels? Get a Savage Axis or a Ruger American. Both are cheap, dependable, and accurate.
>>
>>34913528
God damn it. I am so pissed I bought an early one. I got the gay ass button mag release and the navy lower.

I have autism and really like steel lowers. What do you have anon?

its an excuse to buy a .308. I just wanna bang steel with something heavy powered since the other cartridges I have r bb shit.

That's why I am pissed. I bought a GI the year before they started putting paddles on them.

Also, to anybody looking to buy these, the surplus market isn't at all what it was 5 years ago and is drying up fast.

Cheapest one listed on gun.deals:
https://www.gunbuyer.com/catalog/product/view/id/61076/s/ptr-91-gi-308win-18-grn-stock-20rd-ptr-100-c/

I like it better without the rail but if you want to mount an optic, it may be better to have it. There are other mounting options though for ones without the rails.

Never used it but I found it on the website formerly known as slickguns so I assume it's fine. What you linked is the same gun but with the rail. Mags are super cheap.

>>34913778
I might go with the rail because I might get some sort of optic. not sure which one, but thats down the line.

The G3/HK-91 is horribly over rated. The Ergos SUCK, it is very heavy but still kicks like a mule. It is actually early 1950's tech.
>>

ok. I am OP. Recommend me a better .308 rifle in semi. I am not interested in some AR mutt shit. I have an AR15 and its boring and a rarely shoot it.

I haven't checked in a bit but usually between apex, robertrtg, hkparts, facebook groups and numrich, I can generally find something. Wood is much harder to find though.

>>
>>34913837
You say this like it is a bad thing anon. The ergos are good enough and it is fun to shoot.

I have an AR15 and I like it very much for some things but it is so controlled it doesn't give me that fun factor my PTR does. Some day when I am shitting money I'll build an AR10, but right now my G3 clone is reliable, accurate and fun.

>>34913877
Don't get DSA.
>>
>>34913854
anon you are replying to. There is this bill springfield guy that will weld in the real HK latch for you. I think he wants a couple hundred. He is also well known for doing trigger jobs on HKs and I think he offers a discount if you get the latch and trigger done at the same time. Still... pisses me off they are now coming from the factory like this.

>>34913855
Thanks man. I mostly stick to robertrtg and hkparts. Why are mixing facebook and firearms though? That is a really, really bad idea. Like waving a gun at a cop bad idea.
>>
>>34913877
>DSA
Go imbel or build from a kit, just don't try to snipe the one I'm trying to get. I don't know how good the DSA ones are but the price puts me off. Haven't heard anything bad about the higher end models and the parts are fine though.
>>
>>34913890
thanks m8. Im a senior in college so 1k is pushing it for my yearly gun budget.

I think the PTR is the most budget friendly bang 4 buck I can go for.
>>
>>34913837

It's aesthetic as fuck though. Also accurate and service-proven.

Mosins are 100+ year old tech and still fun to shoot.
>>
Is there any reason to buy a PTR91 for $850-1000 or a FAL for over $1000 when I can just buy some basic bitch AR10 for less other than A E S T H E T I C S?
>>
>>34913915
Left or right handed, the Ar10 charging handle is in a retarded location.
>>
>>34913915
Roller delayed blowback is fucking sturdy.
>>
>>34913877
The current opinion that I gathered from the BRG threads and FAL Files is that current DSA cast receivers have poor quality control and are garbage. The most complaints I see are that parts aren't fitting properly in the receivers (because the receivers are not in spec) and magazines from any manufacturers, not even DSA's own magazines, will not seat. I was looking into PTR vs DSA and all I got is that I missed the boat for good DSA FALs by like 3 years.
>>
>>34913915
I literally dont like AR's.

My autism is incredibly sensitive. I dont like 10/22's either. I went out of my way to buy a CZ455 which is flat out more expensive just because I think 10/22's look gay and shit.

I hate my AR15 but I keep it just because. I want some interesting firearms.

Sure you can't sell guns on facebook anymore but do you have any idea how many groups there are for various parts. It's an incredible resource.

>>34913903
I know that feeling. I love my PTR. Go for it.

>>34913915
Not particularly if you value accuracy and modularity the most. I find my battle rifles to be much more fun to shoot though.
>>
>>34913928
They've had issues since they started making their own parts instead of building off surplus.

Imbel is the way to go, I think coonan may be decent too but don't take my word on that.
>>
>>34913931
>the tism
>don't like ARs
>don't like 10/22
Literally me. I went out of my way to get a chink SKS as my first intermediate rifle because I already had a chink mosin and a chink tokarev, all to appease my autism. Now I have to suffer because chink AKs are expensive.
I feel bad for not having an AR when now is the ideal time to get it, and it seems like a rite of passage at this point, but I just don't like them.
>>
>>34913978
You will never know the suffering that is being left handed and A E S T H E T I C as fuck. Everything is either impossible to use, risks taking a bolt/hot shells to the teeth, or is ugly/expensive as fuck.
>>
>>34913978
Don't get an AR because they're cool, get one because they're good.

My AR is a tool, my other guns are more of a hobby.

That's why I bought a PSA AR15 when shit was on sale. It's utilitarian, but it feels as if it has no soul. Maybe it's because I reload for all my other rifles and there is a sense of accomplishment when I shoot them.
>>
>>34913932
>but do you have any idea how many groups there are for various parts. It's an incredible resource.
I don't, and frankly it is really sad to hear that a lot of business has moved there. Everything you do on that site (not even post but look at, click on) is recorded forever, and their databases are wide open for everybody from local LEO to the alphabets. You don't care about your personal or team privacy or secuirty at all if you do business on that site.

>You will never know the suffering that is being left handed and A E S T H E T I C as fuck
But I am left handed, and muh aesthetics

>>34914000
I probably will eventually. It'll just be some basic shit like a Ruger or a PSA upper and lower, but I'm sure it'll suffice.

I've read on Hkpro forums that Bill Springfield can't be trusted to do the job anymore.
>>
>>34915309
That's not the only place.
Bill seems to have lost his mind, losing guns, making triggers so that they are unsafe, etc.
Bruce Gray does good work I hear but he's expensive and the wait time is significant.
But I'd rather have it done right and actually get my gun back.

They've always made their own receivers dumbass. Surplus parts kits never include a receiver how fucking new are you to this.
>>
god it looks like shit with that poly trigger pack.
>>
Give me a rundown on the PTR rifles, I got a HK steel g3 mag in the christmas secret santa so I feel obligated to get a PTR.

I'm leaning towards the GI with green furniture and metal trigger pack, should I go for the R (with the welded rail on top) I hear you cant use the Regular g3 rail then though.
>>
>>34913272
Welded rail on top of the receiver is a huge help.
Paddle release is big improvment.
Wide handguards are much better if you have been shooting a lot and the barrel is hot.

Currently it seems they've gone to all paddle release and most have the railed receiver.
Wide handguards are an option I'd spend an extra couple bucks for.

Fair enough.
You should get a carry handle for it, since it doesn't have the welded rail.

I've got a bayo lug and bayonet, unfortunately the canvas frog has been painted white. I got it cheap though so I can't complain too much.

I looked into the carry handles and was going to get one when I ordered my brass deflector but decided against it. I think they look good on the HK33's but don't really care for the looks of them on the G3's.
