There are many good war movies. There are many great war movies.
There are many movies and series that tell stories that should be told, that need to be told.
Deserve to be told, even.
Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan, Siege of Jadotville, Enemy at the Gates, Guns of Navarone, Generation Kill, Cartel Land, Generation War, The Pacific, Bridge Over the River Kwai
We can all agree on the good and great, even the shitty (for the most part). But ask you /k/:

What /k/ related movie deserves the title of the greatest one ever created?

I'd honestly have to say either Platoon and Apocalypse Now (which can be "argued" isn't a war movie)
>>
The Beast of War, 9th Company, Tae Guk Gi, The Boys in Company C, 84 Charlie Mopic, Glory, The Battle of Algiers, and A Very Long Engagement are underrated, as is the TV series Rat Patrol and the first season of Tour of Duty.
>>
Generation Kill is my all time favortie

it may not have the best production and some of the scenes seem out of place, but there is not any other play about war that captures the true spirit and atmosphere of being in the military that it does, Its everything jarhead tried to be, yes i know its not about the same event but they are both trying to show the same

Is Dunkirk good?
>>
I know /k/ movies will be heavily biased towards ground combat but Memphis Belle
>>
>>34913977

there is little to no character development, but that is the point

it is great it showing how much war fucking sucks

I'm good friends with the guy who played Gunny Wynn, Marc Menchaca. He got the cast to autograph my Blu Rays.

GK is my second fave of all time, with BoB being my fave.

Also, Dunkirk is unreal good.

Id say its a solid war movie.
Nothing groundbreaking by any means, but what makes it so good imo is that its not some hollywood "(allies), fuck yeah" kinda thing.
its the first non horror movie that i would describe as a slow burner.
Id go see it if you got time, but dont go leaving work early to catch a showing.

yes, I thought it was going to be a ton of dialogue cause how can you make a 2 hour long movie just on the beach. But they do air,sea and land segments and they are pretty gritty actually.

The character with the most development was the French guy who only spoke once in the entire film.

The first half of that and the first half of SPR are both all time great. But for whole movie, I'd go Platoon.
>>
We were soldiers is underrated

I'd probably have to go Das Boot.

Outlaw Josey Wales is best Western. The others mentioned in this list are largely also good, though I'm not crazy about Two Mules, and I'd add Big Jake

Anyone else receptive to My Honor was Loyalty?

My niggah.

Also OP look at the Russian film war, https://sovietmoviesonline.com/drama/270-voyna.html

Don't buy the pass, just watch until it tells you to buy it then refresh and skip to where you were in the film.

Kinda light on the martial arts weapons.
Does /k/ not like Kung Fu?

Maybe I'm missing them but I don't even see any Robert Rodriguez Mariachi or John Woo/Chow Yun Fat movies.

Loved that. Followed the directors page and donated to his film expenses.
Even though the end result was campy as fucking ass.
