So it seems like the Predator has a couple of premium features, but are they worth the extra $50 bucks or so in price? I'm not a poorfag; I'll spend the extra cash if it's worth it, but would it be? One thing I should mention is that I'm looking for a .308 - the barrel on the .308 Predator is heavier, but it's also shorter (18 inches vs. 22 inches). So which is more accurate: the heavier, shorter barrel or the lighter, longer barrel? Which is a better overall rifle?
Barrel length is dependent on caliber. Predator is the HB variant. The only reason it has a heavier barrel is recoil reduction, but if that were a problem then choosing a different rifle is a better choice.

Heavier barrel is a bit more accurate too.

I would agree but HB with a 6mm is a bit overkill compared to a possible necessity to a 7mm. All of the rods bored into barrels are the same diameter for the gun. The benefits are negligible in a lower energy round.

get a remington 700. I have an American rifle and its so bland and cheap its not worth it. Besides, a remington 700 will have a ton of aftermarket support like 10 round magazine conversions. The american rifle doesnt have a bolt lock, the stock is paper thin (mine came bent so the barrel isnt free-floating as it touches the barrel). This is the one ruger gun no one should buy. I mean, a replacement magazine is around 30-40 dollars for a 4 round rotary.
Get a savage 116 or a howa 1500

Predator has a threaded muzzle, American doesn't.

Accuracy is determined by barrel rigidity. Barrels can be made more rigid in two ways:
>make the barrel shorter
>make the barrel thicker
Both of these features together should produce a more accurate barrel where all other things are equal. A shorter barrel (in most cases) will reduce your muzzle velocity, which will increase bullet drop over long range. Let's pretend the change in velocity is about 100 feet per second (which is an accurate estimate). This reduction in velocity is the equivalent of shooting something from 50 yards further away.
Basically, you should be able to shoot a tighter group with the Predator, but you will lose some velocity.

Nigga no. There are better push feed rifles from...almost everyone, aftermarket be damned. Besides, the Ruger American is a poverty spec rifle that shouldn't be compared to a mid-range rifle like the 700 anyway. Mossberg or Savage offer alternatives at the price point or if you want to fork over more cash you can get a Howa 1500/Weatherby Vanguard.
