get a palmetto state armory upper, something with a mid length gas system in the 16-18" barrel length.
I would also pick up a MPI BCG and milspec charge handle from there

then get a cheap milspec lower and lower parts kit, buffer tube kit, your choice of grip and stock and you will be golden

or you could get a palmetto lower and a BCM or Aero Precision upper

Carbine gas is gonna have higher port pressures, and is gonna work your moving parts harder than mid-length, though it really shouldn't matter much, as long as your rifle is made with quality components, and the gas port isn't some retarded size.

Mid is considered optimal for 16 inch, I've also heard good things about 14.5 inch mid lengths.
That said, there's really nothing wrong with a properly made 16 inch rifle with a carbine gas system.

I have a feeling I'm about to fuck up a handguard trying to do this but I'm in the process of getting all the shit I need to leave the black on the outside, put one color on the inside of the cut throughs, and another on the inside.

Any prefered masking techniques? Also, what's the best source for getting dye samples? I'd like to not spend a ton on dyes just to find out that they're not the color I want.

Originally it was just a Sig M400 SRP, then I changed out the stock with one from MFT. The trigger guard/safety/and dust cover with Strike Industries stuff. The BCG and trigger assembly with BCM's. The A2 flash hider and railed gas block with Midwest's low pro gas block and comp. Also free floated it, put Midwest's G3 Mlok 12" hand guard on there. Then finished it off with some Mbus Pro's and a Hogue grip.

Anons, I need some opinions. My AR weighs 9lbs loaded. The current set up has a DD m4 rail, with a aimpoint t2, a magpul sling, kac buis, and tlr1 light. The rifle seems an okay weight to me, but the actual weight number seems too heavy for a m4 style carbine.

If an astigmatic looks at a T2 and the dot appears like a starburst, then looking at an MRO isn't going to be a perfect dot, it's also going to be a starburst. If someone sees a comet in a PRO then they'll see a comet in a Holosun too.

Two models of the very same optic could have differently shaped dots to a non-astigmatic, but that's not what's being discussed.

Basically thing, use greens like OD and forest along with browns. Use pine branches and leaves to help break up the outline. A shot of black spraypaint with your green or brown will give you a darker shade if you feel you need it.

You can do the same with mesh if you want, but mesh works better with tans, browns, and sand like GT did his rifle.
