There are many options:
You could probably store it with campus PD. They're going to fingerfuck it unless you put it in a locked case. You may have difficulties checking it out because of the inherent incompetence of government entities.

You could buy a cheap safe (requires a warrant to open) and hide it/ find a way to secure with a chain somewhere in the dorm.

You could store it with a friend off campus.

As you say this is for camping, I would suggest speaking to your local PD, gun club/range, or bank, about storage / safety deposit box (the latter for the bank) as storage when you're not out camping.
