Nikon Monarch is pretty good for the money, but not much below that level. Meopta good but pricey. Zeiss Terra is their best value scope. Quigley-Ford out of Canada will make a custom scope for your rifle/load for under $1K. Go 50mm objective, if you can....bigger FOV, better light gathering. Bannon = Bushnell at this point.

Leupold and Vortex are pretty solid choices for optics these days. Leupold has arguably better glass; but Vortex has an awesome lifetime warranty on all of their stuff, even is you buy one second hand. That could come in handy if you ever damage your optic while out on a hunt.

You really can't go wrong with either one.

You can still find clearance Leupold VX6 scopes around online if you're not picky about reticles. I got a 2-12x illuminated ones for $800 shipped off eurooptic a few weeks ago. You can find non illuminated ones under $700. Stellar deal.

Some of their stuff is Chinese. Some Japan, some others. Depends on the model and the range. They're no swaro, but a good value for sure. If I lost all my Swarovski, Nightforce, and Kowa stuff and insurance didn't replace th3m, if probably just buy a bunch of Vortex and be done with it.

IMO, there's no "wrong" option. Depends on your budget and what your personal preferences are. hard truth is that it's a bitch basic savage rifle and there's no need for you to have some crazy spec ops four figure glass on it. You'd likely be okay with something in the $100 range or less for the amount of time you'll likely shoot it.

Case point: my fudd uncle has had a basic bitch 3x9 Tasco since the 1980's and to this day he manages to get every deer tag every season with an entry level savage .270 bolt he bought at the same time as the scope.
