Lmao. It's not happening. India isn't stupid enough to get drawn into a war with China in the current year and China doesn't want to flash to the world(US and to a limited extent Russia) how it plans on running a conventional war.

I just noticed that India's land-based AIr-Defense is pretty shit.

Hell, their best system is kinda an upgraded S-125,

I would say that China would own them in the air-campaign.

India has a propensity for being a third world shithole, except the sheer scale of it intensifies the third world-ness. I'd trust a country like Nigeria to maintain their shit over India purely based off the fact that they're willing to have foreigners (read: White or North East Asian dudes) maintain shit.

these are ceremonial-styled excercises. probably modeled after british traditions.

other militaries do that as well.

Though I would say that these semi-mobile guns would be at a certain disadvantage against actual SPHs.

On the other hand, they might be light enough for mountain use.

http://www.scmp.com/week-asia/geopolitics/article/2103881/dispatch-doklam-indians-dig-long-haul-standoff-china

>DISPATCH FROM DOKLAM: INDIANS DIG IN FOR THE LONG HAUL IN STANDOFF WITH CHINA
>Indian soldiers on the border say they are quickly closing the capability gap with China and will not leave Bhutan to its fate

>As I travel up from eastern India’s Bagdogra airport to Gangtok and then to Indian army’s Nathang base near the fraught Doklam area, I count at least six military convoys heading in the direction of Sikkim’s border with China.

>At Nathang, a few kilometres from Doklam in the now-famous “tri-junction” of Tibet, Bhutan’s Doklam plateau and Sikkim’s Chumbi valley, the theatre of the o ngoing stand-off between Indian and Chinese forces , the build-up is even more palpable, even though vehicles carrying artillery pieces and light tanks slither through the night to avoid public attention.

>New bunkers are being built, the ground is being mined to pre-empt Chinese attack, machine-gun nests are being placed at strategic points, and soldiers are performing battle drills at least twice a day. But restraint is still the buzzword.
>>
>>34900200
Lots of dead Indians, then, I suppose. Unless they're planning on fighting ambush battles and mobile warfare using them as support and temporary strongpoints.
>>
>>34900214
Well, the terrain looks like utter shit for armored warfare.

Maybe the Indians are clever enough to take advantage of such terrain and use their fortifications to errect overlapping kill-zones.
>>
>>34900195
Have you been ignoring the wars in Syria and Ukraine, both of which have shown that bunkers are trenches are back in style.

I'd give the edge to India. When, not if, the crisis gets past 3 days, the Chinese officers will whine and will not work because of depression. Around 5 out of 7 Chinese rounds will not work as expected.

Their border is the Himalayas, so yeah pretty shitty indeed.

But China's been building a great big highway to Pakistan, so they might be able to simply go around if Pakis join in.

That'd be like some sort of hilarious Maginot 3.0
>>
>>34900244
Ukraine is cold, the Eastern side consists of half-professional militias and totally-not-russians while the Ukrainians were a complete third world military.
Trenches and bunkers have hardly seen any use in Syria. Bunkers I have not seen any of and trenches are limited in their use at least based on following the conflict daily. They seem to prefer earthern ramparts where possible, since artillery and mortars are hardly used except by Russians and some more professional SAA units.
Also, Syrians are Arabs and they can't into war.
Though then again, I might be over-estimating Chinese and Indian competence.

Looks like the Tibet Mountain Brigades received the PHL-03 300mm MRLS recently.

Footages show a drill of them engaging targets at a range of over 100km with guided munitions.

China has quite a large arsenal of 300mm GMRLS munitions, including those with deep penetration warheads. Pic related.

Russia would be neutral, selling weapons to India at most.

And Pakistan will actually conduct strikes in Kashmir against India in coordination with China.

ASEAN, as always, will be blocked by Cambodia, Laos and Thailand which are Chinese client-states, so there will be no 2nd front there.

So, it will be a pure Sino-Indian war, with third countries providing weapons to India at most.

Thailand is hardly a Chinese client-state. Cambodia is split between the Chinese and the Thai, the only ones that the Chinese have real power over is Laos.

But I don't know how you suppose they would 'block' anything from happening.

Thailand's Junta and King (who always goes to China for medical checkup) is firmly within the Chinese pockets. Hell, they even allowed their Gripens to do Air-to-Air combat training with Chinese J-11 and J-10s.

Pakistan and India fight wars every few decades, and it is an extremely militarized border. In fact the China India border is less fortified than the pakistan india border.

instead of maginot line 3.0, it would be like if the maginot line was on the french Belgium border, and Germany went through Belgium to attack this fortification rather than crossing the lightly defended border.

And all are weak. They can only enact any sanctions against China, if all members are united in their cause.

Cambodia, Thailand, Laos exist who block that every single time.
Recently, even Philippines is on China's side because of based Duterte.

India, Japan and the USA CANNOT exploit the SCS dispute to open a new front against China in case of Sino-Indian War.

That's the power of Chinese diplomacy.
>>
>>34901186
Neither can they fight war on their own.

Unilaterally attacking China is suicide, they know this. All they can do is to deliver a joint statement against China that would end up with economic sanctions, but due to certain Chinese client-states in the ASEAN, they are unable to.

Secondly, China is the biggest economy and neither of these countries can afford to cut off trade with China.

You realize that China is the reason ASEAN arent starving to death on the rice fields any more?

Hell Japan is only staying afloat because trade with China today is double the trade with the USA.

>that uses civilian GPS and or GLONASS, both of which will not be available in a war. (They get encrypted) Also their satellite position network is incomplete, so even if they had the capability to use it, these still wouldn't be guided.

Sorry to inform you, but this time the chance is very low. Both sides are actually just bluffing right now, they don't really want an actual war, especially India.

Doklam standoff is very likely just a distraction Modi creates to distract their internal economic issues.

In the last fifteen years, China has been throwing money at Laos like crazy, in order to exploit Lao mineral resources in the north-west corner of the country. They practically built a small city just for Chinese workers.

In return, China funds stuff like Lao's hydroelectric projects south of Vientiane and builds roads linking up all of Laos districts. I actually visited one hydroelectric site several years ago, it was pretty impressive. They simply bought out hundreds of acres and relocated all the villagers to higher ground in exchange for giving them new houses, free electricity, and a brand new paved road to the district's capital (~80km or so).

Vietnam has a lot of historical influence over Laos, but they simply can't compete with stuff like that when they still have to do that themselves back home.

>>34904720
South Korea is a major aid donor in South East Asia. They sponsor plenty of construction works. I'm pretty sure they sponsored part of the new Hanoi metro/light rail system (or maybe it was the Japs?).

They've also done stuff like build roads, eg. the highway in Cambodia from the Thai border to Siem Reap, and fund a lot of schools, as well as cultural/archeological stuff through UNESCO.

I would say that the research goes way back. The earliest papers indicate the beginning of the project in the late 90s, but it faced certain problems due to insufficient technology in micro-electronics.

Maybe there could be some Israeli involvement, but seeing what happened during that time in the early 2000s between China and Israel (the US-blockade of the Phalcon-Radar deal and the stop of Sino-Israeli technical cooperation), I would think that the tech the Chinese got was minimal. It was more the inspiration that such weapon could exist, which helped kickstart the project.
>>
>>34905296
Makes sense, I suppose. Half the reason Israel has all the cool shit it does is that it's the only Western country to actually give a damn about those things; with enough motivation (and the Abrams performance in 1991 is very motivating) anyone sufficiently skilled could match them.

I think China currently has a significant edge on India, but that is a stupid comparison. The troops involved in Operation Desert Storm were the best NATO armored units which had been prepared for decades to fight exactly this kind of war against the best Warsaw Pact hardware fielded by the Soviet Guards units, then were put up against a bunch of Arabs with export slavshit. China has invested heavily in its military, but for them, the kind of warfare that would be seen on the South-West border is massively different from the confrontation with the US and its allies in the East they have been preparing for.

China has a much more extensive logistical network. India has refused to build roads in the region to deny the potential use of them by an adversary. China could relocate a large force to the region very quickly.
That being said it takes about two weeks to get used to the thin air and environment of the Himalayas, but that applies to both sides.
China is better equipped, India is a volunteer army with better morale and more recent combat experience.

>>34918617
The PLA is still using T-55s. In fact, the model with the 100mm gun is the most prevelent single model in the whole army.
>>
>>34918633
So? South Korea did it the same way, it's not like China started building submarines just yesterday. They have 80 right now. South Korea has 15 but China has 26 times more people and 10 times the economy, so at least they should have 150 submarines to be as militarized as South Korea.
>>
>>34918633
The point is pretty clear.

The base technological advancement of the troops matters more than a few super weapons. At a median level, Indian ground forces are better equipped.

For example, the most numerous tank model in the PLA is the T-55. In the Indian army, it's the T-72.

Why are you comparing numbers like that? The strategic needs of the two countries aren't even the same. By your logic, why doesn't India have twice the numbers of subs SK has?

>>34918670
You're talking as if they will field every tanks they have in case of a war. China has enough 3rd gen tanks for a border war, plus the region is not conductive to armoured warfare, so we will most likely see mechanized infantry backed-up by artillery and air force.
>>
>>34918720
>Why are you comparing numbers like that? The strategic needs of the two countries aren't even the same. By your logic, why doesn't India have twice the numbers of subs SK has?

Because SK has just a bit smaller economy than India.

On equal tech footing one sub beats another sub, as it stands the SK maritime forces are worth at least half of the Chinese one. On their own. And China claims it's aiming to replace the USA.

>>
>>34918720
>You're talking as if they will field every tanks they have in case of a war.

Because theater assets use what they got. It's not like China will ship every single one of its type-99s, give the keys to a type-59 driver and say "lol good luck", nor will they ship (or really able to) every upgraded batt to theater. That is an amateurs viewpoint.

You have to assume the median level of troops will be used, because that's all that really matters 90% of the time. You can use your small numbers of upgraded equipment, tactically, but again strategically such efforts are normally moot.

This is also ignoreing that, even on a relativisticly high tier equipment level, especially for ground forces equipment, the Chinese are not all that far ahead of the Indians, just intergenerationally superior (except for the small numbers of 5th generation planes, but the j-20 is a strike fighter not a air superiority fighter)
>>
>>34918771
India still has 1.6 GDP of SK, they should still have 1.6 times more subs by your logic. A better comparison would be by military budget. At 4 times the budget, China still has 4.5 times the subs. Also, not even USA has more than 70 subs.

>And China claims it's aiming to replace the USA.

as to why the 59s are still in service, they can be counted on to operate as training or fire support vehicles. Aside from the middle part of china, most of it is swamps, forests, jungles or mountains, heavily armoured vehicles don't fare too well there
>>

>96 numbers are probably somewhat close

Is a travesty. They are honestly, at this point, a huge logistic burden in 2017. They lower the PLA's combat effectiveness by simply existing and using up logistical capacity.

Imo, they just exist as a way to artificially raise the tank numbers for domestic purposes.

Even more reasons to cut the fat. Hell, even fat has a use. Cut off the dead appendage.

>but i expect them to continue to use these vehicles until their lifetimes truely ends
As do I. China loves to hold on to obsolete stuff. Why is beyond me, beyond (again) domestic propaganda purposes. Maybe the public will react badly if Xi stated he is cutting his tank force basically in half.

When they are that obsolete, it's not odd. It might look odd to the public because it's admitting a large portion of their tank fleet is woefully fucked.

>but your going to have to give me a source to the 100mm being the primary
http://xw.qq.com/news/20160116011588/NEW2016011601158800

Broken down between all models and battalions.

105mm is just over 1k, 100mm is 1.3k.

My guess is they (rightly) stopped bothering to upgrade the things. I would be surprised if it could even use all of the 105 ammo in Chinese inventory (I.e newer highee pressure rounds)
>>
>>34920515
100mm variants is near half the tank force, it basically means they can train another half of it at one go.

My guess is that they stockpiled too much 100mm ammo, remember they've been using this calibre for decades.

on the plus side, if trump deregulates import laws maybe you can buy a type 59 someday

>My guess is that they stockpiled too much 100mm ammo
There are plenty of assault guns that it can be thrown in. Or just take the loss.

>trump deregulates import laws
Trump just started a new chinese investigation, nor would I want 59. However an surplus anphib apc...
>>
>trying to discredit a top 20 blogger with plenty of articles under his belt.

His audacity to criticize, amirite?

>implying Baidu fucking news, and a wiki completely devoid of sources is worth shit.
Kek

type 63?
A 59 would make more sense, 100mm ammo is probabbly fairly common in most countries.

Like i said, china is a immense place, things... take time
>>
>>34920632
>A 59 would make more sense,
Nah, makes more sense on a light tank than wasting MBT logistics on a 100mm gun carrier.

>big place, etc.
I think you misunderstand my point, it's actively hurting the PLA by wasting resources on keeping it around.
>>
>>34920694
they can't do much, and it's not as if all 1000 of those tanks are in active service all the time

they might aswell be in storage, china probably has their own desert-vehicle-storage area or something.
>>
>>34920707
>they can't do much,
Better to cut the bleeding than let it keep going

> 1000 of those tanks are in active service all the time
>might be in storage
Apperently they are all in batt.
>>
>>34920747
in batt does'nt mean 100% use

china has some degree of conscription too, and I'd assume cutting down conscription-use vehicles, the rest are for recruits starting their regular training.
>>
>>34920767
Nobody is saying they are driven NG 24/7 but they are being trained on and kept in a ready state.
>>

He's still just a blogger though, and almost every articles he wrote also are "completely devoid of sources sources".
>>
>a reporter with a blog is just a blogger
Kek

>extremely popular guy with multiple stories on multiple sites and he is untrustworthy as an unsourced wiki page because you said so.
Wew laddy, going far to discredit him. Maybe a tad to close to the truth?
>>
>>34920789
its not as of parts of the type 59 fall off so readily replacements have to come asap

i think the resource usage of them probably isnt too bad given their infrequent use, more heavy tanks like the 99 and 96 probably consume much more as a whole anyway.
>>
>>34920860
Old equipment require far more maintaince than newer equipment.

MBTs are no exception, and as a rule are maintaince heavy. Yes, they need a constant supply of parts, ammo, fuel, personnel in both crew and auxiliaries. All better served towards far superior vehicles.
>>
>>34920824
Oh, "a reporter with a blog" means he's not just blog and everything he says(with no sources) is automatically more "trustworthy" than wiki pages and everyone else? And it's OK when a blogger write articles without sources, but it's not OK when wikipages and others have no sources? That's what you're implying, right?
You sure keep showing us how "trustworthy" you are. Kek.

Come on, your face cannot be saved, just drop it.
>>
>actually comparing a wiki to a news report and equating them

This shit is top tier chicom logic, ignoreing that he is essentially torpedoing his own argument because nothing official ever comes out of the PLA. In essence, spreading short much shit he is covering himself.

I am diamonds.

>so much shit
Sorry it's hard to fap and type.

Why cares about tanks. India gets absolutely destroyed by China's airforce alone.

The best Indian SAM, the Akash, is just a 'modernized' 1960s Kub with mere 25km range and 18000m ceiling.

Chinese J-10, J-11B, J-16, JH-7A will fukcing shit on these SAM systems with their YJ-91 anti-radiation missiles while not even getting within range of them.
