Going shopping for a new durr and pig rifle this Saturday. Looking for a Tikka t3x Hunter Stainless in .270 WSM, but keeping my options open. Currently have a Remington 700 synthetic in .270 Win, there's nothing wrong with it but I'm probably going to let my little brother start using it. I don't really care for the long action.

Last year I borrowed a Kimber 84m stainless .308 because I didn't want to bother flying with a rifle. It was a nice gun but the action was stiff and didn't feed very well for a rifle that expensive.

Won't know until October/November. After I've been watching the cameras for a bit I'll figure out where to position myself and what range the probable shot will be.

Top contenders for rifles this year are my go to 30-06 and my AR.

>>34891079
You'll call me a cheater but I just drive back in my shitbox car and use that as a blind. I don't get a lot of time to hunt, so I try to have the usual arrival times planned out and get back about 30-45 minutes before those times.

I bring with me

>soda to sip
>maybe a snack
>rope to drag the deer back with

I will either use my PTR if I am hunting in the woods or my rem 700 AAC-SD 308 if I sit on my dad's "farm". It's only 36 acres but the vantage point covers over half which was dense timber but has been logged so now it's sparse timber. I am pretty fortunate to have that available.

Years prior it was so dense it was hard to hunt. Last year there was too much logging activity. This year it is gonna be gud.

I have a hard time getting reliable hunting buddies. Any /k/ommandos wanna go full bush wookie in N Idaho?

>State law says you have to wear 200 square inches, including hat, of unbroken orange
>The only people we've run into on the land who weren't supposed to be there were game wardens
>Apparently they have jurisdiction to go onto any property, fenced or not, probable cause or not

>>
>>34891595
Ask around, join a hunting club, look in classifieds. Having friends who hunt makes all of this a lot easier.
>>
>>34891595
ask around. most farmers will let you hunt their land if you're kind enough about it; ie give them some meat or some other gift of sorts. some gun clubs actually are set up to organize hunting on local land.
>>
>>34890773
Kar98k with Privi Partisan 8mm Mauser.

I dig a foxhole near a known deer trail (deer have evolved to look up for danger due to tree stands, but they don't look down) and wait with bayonet affixed. When a deer ambles by, I strike. It saves more meat than a bullet and is cheaper. Plus, it's a more primal hunting experience and nobody knows if you're hunting at night.

Gonna use a CZ527 in 7.62x39 this year. Debating whether to stick a low-magnification scope on there or just stick with irons. I'm pretty good with them and rarely take a shot over 100 yards anyway.

>>34891595
Go to a farm and offer labor in exchange to hunt. Be professional and respectful. Most of the time that's more than enough. Get something in writing from them if possible. Those communities are usually pretty strong and you might get a neighbor who thinks they are helping the owner by booting trespassers.

Surprisingly herters brass cased softpoints preform pretty well. I'd recommend going with a low magnification scope.
Irons tend to go pretty quick for me in the fading light, its also handy for being able to spot obstructions (trees branches) in your way. I missed out on a buck two years ago at 50yrds because I was tracking him while he was at a trot and ended up cutting down a sapling about 20yrds away.
