I was wondering what people thought about the cheaper, more basic 1911 options. I was considering the RIA as well as the ATI 1911, but I live in commiefornia and the ATI doesn't seem to be on the certified list.

I like the ATI grips more than the RIA, but either would suffice.

Thoughts on these guns?

The ATI for comparison.

The RIA is a pretty solid budget handgun.

Nothing special, but it does everything a pistol in the $300 price range needs to do without fuss, it will eat ball ammo and generally cycle most stuff. Might have the occasional rough edge or so but just sand that down if it's an issue.
Factory magazines can be a bit iffy on occasion, but it's a 1911 so you can just go buy some Wilson Combat or Chip McCormick magazines if it's a problem.

A lot of people say the cheap wood grip panels are a little chintzy, so they often buy replacements. Don't spend a lot of money doing upgrades and stuff beyond that though, you'll quickly run up in costs equivalent of a plain nicer 1911 if you do.

ive got a ria 1911 gi
id recommend it if your looking for a budget 1911.
i bought mine for a range toy/collectable not for self defense (it would be ok as long as decent mags are used)
Its not particularly accurate and .45 is pricey if youre a poorfag, but it will shoot when you pull the trigger and has a solid build. I added a curved mainspring housing as well as a checkered grip

I was looking at an ati when I was in Vegas a while back. Came home and realized ati wasn't on our gay ass list. Ended up getting a Springfield trp
-pic related after much consideration...

Is that a W900?
>>
Bumping I'm curious about the ATI quality as well. Any anons with firsthand experience please reply, they look pretty decent for that price point, but I've yet to handle or shoot one

Thanks for the feedback y'all.

Pretty sold on the RIA. Just wanna make sure that what Buds says is CA legal IS actually legal

I know 45 is pricier, but felt so much better to shoot than 9mm.

Anaheim here wasssuuuppp. How was the Firearm safety test?
>>
>>34890820
ATI, RIA, Citadel, and a few other budget 1911s all come the Philippines. They're decent pistols but the mags they come with are trash. 99% of the problems they have can be easily fixed by changing the recoil spring and/or using better mags.

>>34890920
Easy, if you have a dl you'll be fine. the DMV tests are harder than the safety test. Just watch the questions cause they may throw in a double negative. If anything just download the pdf guide from the cadoj website

Get a US made Auto Ordnance
>>
>>34891709
They're nice, but they're probably outside of OP's budget given the guns he is looking at.
>>
>>34890964
So swapping out the mags for something better, and you're good to go? Sounds good
>>
>>34892366
as long as you dont plan to waste money upgrading ria its fine.
>>
>>34891745
About $70 more
>>
>>34892398
Aren't those in the $500 range?
>>
>>34892432
Yeah, and the RIs are in the low 4s
>>
>>34892438
Didn't RIAs use to be in the mid to high 3's?
>>
>>34890546

I have one and love it. Clean it and treat it right and it will be a fine budget handgun
>>
>>34890562
My buddy EDCs the ATI. I've shot it a few times, it's nice, and it likes cheap ammo
>>
>>34892457
around a decade ago when cz 75s were easily available at 4-500. value of the dollar has dropped and prices increase.
rias been close to 400 for roughly 5 years now
>>
>>34892438
>>34892457
It all depends on which model you get. RIAs range from $400 to as high as $700. Anything about $500 and you're better off getting a different brand with higher quality.

I hate logos on slides, looks tacky IMO. Other then that theyre both basic GI model 1911s. Id get a springfield but after the shit they pulled I cant
>>
>>34890546
From what I've seen, they are overrated. They aren't bad, but it's kinda like the cult of CZ that the 75b is the best handgun ever.
>>
I just put money down on a RIA 1911A1 so will post results this weekend.
>>34893769
What'd they do?
>>
>>34890546
I have one and it works fine. For the price it's a no-brainer to buy it and it's a great first handgun for someone to learn on.

The only thing you should be aware of is that sights on the GI model are just not as good as modern handguns and they are peened to the slide. For actually carrying and defense you will eventually want better sights (if you don't have other guns already).
>>
>>34893769
It's a 1911. Replace the fucking slide
>>
>>34893312
AOs are quality in the 5 range

I have both ati and rock island. Both have performed very well, with the ati at 1000 rounds, I haven't had a single failure. It runs with every magazine I've ever put in it, it's my favorite gun. Clean oil it and treat it right, and it'll take care of you

I have one of these and I love the fucking shit out of it.
>>
>>34897275
Easier said than done, those budget 1911s aren't milspec and may not accept parts from other manufacturers
>>
>>34896115
sold out to gun grabbers in IL to destroy competitors and rake in shekels as the only gun makers in the area. Then got caught, tried to downplay it, which outraged everybody and are now trying to save face with
>we're sorry, we always love the 2nd amendment and would NEVER EVER hurt the gun community :(
shame too because I wanted a Springfield 1911
>>
>>34890546
It's a good value at around $400 or less out the door. It becomes less of a value over that price.
>>
Thanks for the replies everyone!

Now I just need to see if this goddamn state will allow the purchase of the RIA.

Auto Ordnance is a better buy for like $25 more. Mostly because they have better finish and less machining marks. Being Made in the US is also a plus.
