Just got a TLR-1 for the P99 and I'll sell the PPK/S for a wartime PPK in .32 ACP when I turn 21. Looking at getting a revolver next.

AR and SKS got sold off, as well as a few other handguns. No place to shoot long guns around here and I don't hunt, so not really worth the investment currently. Although I do eventually want to get a bullpup something and maybe an RPR or similar if I ever end up somewhere I can use them. Revolvers aren't really my thing, but I've kinda been an eyeing the RIA M206 recently just as something for giggles because they're cheap.

Hey now ruger makes a fine product.

With the exception of hunting weapons, how many different 'types' of weapons would you want?
For example:
>"""assault""" rifle
>DMR
>SBR
>12ga
>Precision rifle
>EDC pistol
>snub-nose carry revolver
>full size duty pistol

I understand there'd be overlap (i.e home defence could be achieved with any pistol, shotgun, or SBR), but am I missing anything?
>>
>>34887620
>intermediate semi auto rifle
>bolt/semi precision rifle in full size rifle cartridge
>pump/semi shotgun
>offensive handgun
>defensive handgun
>carry handgun
>>
>>34887676
>offensive handgun
>defensive handgun
>carry handgun

How do these differentiate?
>>
>>34887707
Offensive would probably be a full size double stack with something like an RMR and a suppressor. Something that you're grabbing when you know you're going to fight but can't/won't take a long gun.

A defensive hand gun is something you take when you suspect a fight may happen. Double stack, maybe smaller than an offensive handgun. Something relatively easy to carry, but something you're not worried about someone seeing.

A carry gun implies concealment. Something to keep you safe in all circumstances that you likely don't want anyone knowing you have.
>>
>>34887771
Couldn't you just use an EDC pistol as a defensive pistol (i.e. G19, etc.), and a full size pistol for offensive (i.e. G17 w/ threaded barrel, etc.)?
>>
>>34887787
Sure, if you felt confident that a glock 17 would get you through whichever engagement you were planning. Offensive means you're attacking on your terms, so if you consider likely engagement distance and feel that standard sights on a g17 are sufficient, that would absolutely quality as an offensive handgun.

If you could comfortably carry a g19 in any possible weather with any outfit in you wardrobe, it would absolutely be a carry gun. It's about specific scenarios, not necessarily the model of the gun.
>>
>>34887707
>offensive handgun
It's going to be something in a cartridge with decent energy when subsonic, mostly 45, but occasionally 9mm. Will always be suppressed. Examples include the Mark 23, USP45 Tactical, HK45ct, FNX 45 Tactical, and Maxin 9. The ability to aim with NODs is a plus. This class of handgun will never be used by you for it's intended purpose unless you're an actual special operator or a really cool criminal.
>defensive handgun
This is going to be something that's usually 9mm or 40 with supersonic loads, full size, and worn openly on a duty belt. This is used by soldiers or police officers when somethings breaks with their long arm, or they aren't able to get to it immediately. Examples are the m92sf, P30, Glock 17,19,22,etc, SIG P226
>carry handgun
This one is up to the particular user, can range from mouse gun chambered autos to snub nose 44 magnums. This can be an auto or revolver. This should be something small enough to not print in a chambering that you are comfortable carrying. Think of j frame revolvers, P2000SKs, P938s and the like.
These are just my personal thoughts on the matter of handguns, most people don't believe in the offensive handgun concept, I do. If you have anymore questions I'll gladly answer them.
>>
>>34887816
Is an offensive pistol even useful for a civilian?
Anything offensive will probably be done with a long arm or SBR anyway. Failing that, a defensive pistol (which may double as a carry pistol if it's compact, but not sub-compact) could maybe suffice?

For a civilian? No, but it's not going to stop me from buying a Mark 23. The main purpose is infiltration for SOF teams, depending on how the mission is planned one man one man in the squad will have one, or one per fireteam, with everyone else having defensive handguns or no sidearms. It's used for quiet elimination of guard dogs and human sentries. The operator with the offensive handgun will usually have the same long arm as the rest of the unit. For conventional battles and patrols they are completely useless. Note, many people on firearms forums are misinformed and believe that the offensive handgun user doesn't have a long gun and will continue to use the handgun in a firefight, so they denounce the concept. This is wrong, they are stupid and should feel bad.

Thanks anon. I've got quite a few things on my short list now that I've got a good-paying job, but I'm trying to square away the rest of my life first. That AK-74 actually took a lot of time and money to get finished the way I wanted it, to so I'm taking a break from buying guns at the moment.

Stuff on the wishlist once I get there, though:
>JDI/Swiss Arms SIG553 pistol
>Omega Firearms MP5 pistol
>Hodge Defense-based recce AR
>Colt Combat Unit M1911
>USP .45 Tactical

Might wedge an S&W Model 19, Ruger Mark IV, or a levergun in there somewhere too. I'll be working on that list for a while.

Better than any other striker fired handgun. Double action is 9# and smooth and then the single action is like 4# with a really crisp break and a short reset. It's literally a better trigger than the PPQ. The anti stress mode is just a double action length pull with the single action weight.

Its an inexpensive "combat" shotgun with a ridiculously smooth action. Out of the box if you set it on the butt and press the slide release the action falls open on its own. Based on the High Standard Flite King, which is out of production now, but was highly regarded in its time.

Only comes with a 5rd magazine tube, but is compatible with Mossberg 500 tubes, which is what I've put on mine. And aftermarket support is weak, but Mossberg furniture can be fitted to it with minor modifications to the wood/plastic.

>Just out of curiosity, what do you guys with the big gun collections consistently go back to shooting? I imagine you change it up frequently but you have to have a favorite or two that you always bring

I'm not one of the guys above, but I basically shoot 50% of my guns. When I go shooting I tend to shoot:
- Sig 551 SB + a handgun (usually Sig Sauer X-Five AL SO or Beretta 87 Target)
- AI AT
- Pistol (usually Sig Sauer X-Five AL SO or Beretta 87 Target) + MR-73

Some guns I really never shoot. Like the Vz58V (why bother if you have a 551?), the SMLE N°1 MkIII (it's 100 years old and the bore has seen better days) and the Nagant 1895 (I just bought it because it's nifty mechanically).
>>
>>34890095
I really like my 9mm guns, so my G19 comes out to play a lot (RMR'd Glocks are fun as fuck too), as does my Scorpion. 9mm being cheap and easy to shoot is a big part of why I keep considering adding more PCCs to my lineup now that I largely have my rifle collection squared away.

Technically speaking, my Shield makes it out to almost every range trip too, but that's because it's my EDC, so it doesn't always get fired.

I shoot everything. I usually take 2 - 4 guns to the range at a tume. Usually either what ever i have the most ammo for or whatever hasnt been shot in a while. If it dosent get shot in a year it gets sold or traded. Hierlooms excluded of course.

I saw an ongoing thread somewhere but i cant find it again. I want to say you were involved in the convo. People were discussing ways to best improve reliability. I remember discussions of opening up the gas ports, and someone else talking about working the action while packed with deburring compound. Sound familiar? If so, got a link?
>>
>>34890167
It's tricking you. It has the selector for full auto, but the fire selector won't engage it
>>
>>34890527
That sounds like me, at the very least that was the plan. Deburr the gas ports, cycle the action a couple hundred times with valve grinding compound, flush it out and use toothpaste for a finer grit, and see where that takes it. Maybe polish up other contact points, then enlarge the ports if needed.

Basically want it to be able to run birdshot, because if you have to put Gucci ammo in a dirt cheap gun for it to work you're doing something wrong.
