Be honest, who here shoots in Weaver stance?
>>
i dont shoot at all because i dont have any guns but my friend let me shoot his airgun once and i hit a can out 25 feet on the first try so id say im a sniper.
>>
>>34886882
is there any other stance?
do you shoot at the hip crouched down and bent over?

I live in the future. Therefore I don't have a shooting stance but I use the 251 different shooting stances from Gun-Kata. It's so effective, I got banned from all shooting ranges in my state.
>>
>>34886882
The fags at Front Site push that shit hard.

>>
>>34886882
I, and every other competent shooter I know shoots a modified weaver stance.

It's stood the test of time better than either the true weaver or the true isosceles of 90's fame because it is the most bio-mechanically sound 2 handed shooting position.
>>
Modified weaver is literally the best stance.
>>
>>34887670
>>34887654

modified weaver?

it's an interim stance between "true" weaver (heavily bent elbows, adopted due to physical ailment of jack weaver) and isoceles (totally straight elbows, recoil straight into skeletal system, no use of muscles as a recoil dampening buffer) to maximize advantages of both stances while minimizing the disadvantages of each (ie. isoceles is bad for recoil management, weaver is muscle intensive because it only manages recoil better if muscles are tense).
>>
>>34887691
standard weaver keeps your main arm slightly bent and your bring the gun up to eye level

modified weaver keeps your main arm straight and you bring your head forward and down to meet your sights
>>
>>34886936
Fuck yeah, anon. It's a handgun, not a handsgun.
>>
>>34887769
>>34887757
I lean back to look down sights
>>
>>34887769
you're thinking of chapman, which keeps the right arm totally straight (given right = shooting arm). Modified weaver has shooting arm *very* slightly bent and support arm slightly more bent.
>>
>>34887793
don't lena back, raise your hands to bring the gun to your eye level, rather than lowering your eyes to bring them to gun level.

leaning back is less efficient from a recoil control standpoint which is important if you want to be good at shooting fast as a self defense or competition shooting context would demand.
>>
>>34887757
Isosceles is standing square to the target and holding the gun centered and up at eye level. Your arms don't have to be locked straight. The recoil management comes from locking your wrists and not being an anemic choir boy.
>>
>>34887793
Post tits.
>>
>>34887810
perhaps you would benefit from observing the pic in >>34887757 and the definition of an isoceles triangle.

consider the fact that tensed muscles can act as high tension buffer springs which are far more effective at snapping the sight back on target than simply being a lardass who's pushed back slightly less with each round fired.

given that i am left handed, but right eye dominant, this is my defaul stance as it allows me to shoot across my body, with head cocked and lowered over the sights so that the right eye has a proper sight picture

>>34887886
How do I find what my dominant eye is
>>
>>34887886
I'm right handed but left eye dominant. I just force myself to use my right eye anyway and I shoot better like that.
>>
>>34887896
Make a small aperture with your hands at full arm extension and look at something through it with both eyes open. Close each one at a time and you'll see which one is your dominant.
>>
>>34887896
simply, hold your hand out from you isoceles style with a window made between the sides of your hands and thumbs. sight a distant object through this window and pull your hands back towards face, keeping the object within the sights picture. now close each eye one at a time. whichever eye could see the object still, rather than the back of your hand, is the dominant eye
>>
>>34887911
sounds terrible

>>34887929

>>34887938
it is, but it works
>>
>>34887924
*close each one, and whichever causes the object to "move" from the center of the aperture when you close it is NOT your dominant eye.

you can make one eye or the other your dominant eye by wearing an eye patch over whichever eye you DO NOT want to be dominant for a few days.

same way you treat a lazy eye.
>>
>>34887911
I'm the same.

I just close my left eye when shooting, because it's a pain in the ass to remember to shift my head so my left eye is aligned with the sights every time bring up a gun.

If I'm not careful, then it's easy to shift the sights to align with my left eye instead, and that has the gun shooting to the right.
>>
>>34887948
have you tried it with modified weaver, but right arm going like straight across your chest as much as physically possible?
>>
>>34887986
Not that anon, but I have.

It's kinda comfy, but not a useful practice for serious use, if you expect your armor to take bullets for you, you want it fully presented and as such your chest square to the threat.

>>34886882
Is it bad if my stance is something in between weaver and isoceles?
>>
>>34888014
no, that means you chose the modified weaver/isoceles and as such have chosen correctly.
>>
I've been hasguns for a while but I'm only starting to get into handguns.
I shot some handguns last weekend and I always ended up in weaver stance without thinking about it, probably because I'm experienced with long guns.

So is handgun shooting stance something you should let happen naturally or do you have to fight it?
>>
>>34888004
i don't wear armor though....

in all seriousness, even thought i prefer modified weaver, sloppy isoceles will be my likely go to for close range where i am shooting without a full sight picture, DOOM style
>>
>>34888040
find what works for you, and practice all of them, including point shooting. especially point shooting
>>
>>34887867
Sometimes, but I think that's really more a function of being older and having a stiff back and shoulders than anything else.
>>
>>34886882
Not using the superior tea cup grip.
Plebians.
>>
>>34887896
Slice one out.
now the other is domonant, and you can look like big boss.
or get one shot out for true glory.
>>
>>34887911
Is it bad that on first dates i have them test eye dominance and immediately drop the cross dominants?
>>
>>34887823
kek
>>
I'm not sure what you call it, but when I shoot a pistol, i either shoot it one handed, my right side facing the target and my left hand on my left hip. Or I lean forward and have both my arms straight, but my elbows slightly bent.

Probably not good form. But, I prefer clay targets anyways.
>>
>>34886940
>when you need to shit but are in a firefight
>>
>>34886882
I do a modified weaver. It feels natural.

When I'm doing target shooting I do this, though >>34886936
>>
>>34887896
>shooting with one eye
Use both eyes, much better.
>>
>>34887940
