I imagine at least a dozen of you have actually been in the Air force.
I have a clearance, and I work for a defense contractor. I also have some brain issues that I tally want to go see a counselor or psychiatrist about.
Say I'm depressed, sucicidal, and have an irrational hated for people (women) who I blame for my own problems.
I don't want to lose my clearance or my job. Is it safe to go look for actual non-alcoholic help?

Short answer, Yes. You can be a fucking wingnut and keep your clearance.

I remember the SF86 had a "did you talk to a person about being crazy" question on it. What will happen if I always yes?

Filling out your SF86 the first time is different from now. It is CONSTANTLY emphasized to us in my community that there won't be repercussions if you seek help (I.e. you have to initiate, not get sent by someone else) for PTSD, or any issue for that matter.(financial, marital, etc)
But you have to be the one to ask for help.
Im not going to say it wont impact your career at all, i personally have never seen someone ASKING for help get penalized in anyway, its highly improbable it will have any negatives. Key word is asking, if you think you need help seek it out before someone makes you get it. Getting a court order to see a therapist will have a greater impact than if you go to one willingly.

Quit being a pussy.
Hoorah Marine Corps.
DOD contractor as well but for a private organization. They would/will terminate individuals that bring their personal issues to work especially if it effects our mission.
