My uncle has an inherited old Swiss Vetterli that was sold as bubba'd by Bammerman I believe.
Stupid lore in my family has it that a great uncle during the battle of the bulge found it in a barn he took cover in, but that's super improbable.
they have a website?
Bannerman was one of the first arms dealers, in the modern sense.

He was no Sam Cummings.

Francis Bannerman started to buy up military surplus in 1872 and reselling it to the general public. He eventually set-up shop in New York City and stored his inventory in a building.
Eventually he couldn't fit all of his surplus into the building so he bought Pollepel Island, built a castle on it and moved his entire inventory into it, and called it Bannerman's Island--his castle also doubled as a giant billboard to advertise his company.

That is really cool.

Yea, it's a shame what happened to his castle tho. In 1920 200 tons of shells blew up and destroyed a portion of the castle. Then in 1969 a huge fire broke out in the castle that destroyed the roof and all floors.
So all that's left is the outside. There's no more interior or roof so it's basically a skeleton.
