Major bases are shit for this, because everyone knows about the military and either doesn't like it, or is trying to dependa.

The best bet is a small base not many people know much about near a major city, especially near colleges.

no. army, and 9 years of barracks living between deployements. because of overseas and shit.

Norfolk has apartments for quartering sailors too.

the whole military needs to house single and married but no children service members to the same standard. pic related.

>>34883153
Except you have a curfew, not that fun desu
>>
>>34883167
anything around honolulu and pearl harbor is expensive and packed as fuck. interior ohau is steamy tropical at the lower elevations. the red clay that stains uniforms and tactical gear.

if there was a way to work and live on top of a oahu's extinct volcanoes. where the air is drier and cooler. then it might be tolerable.
>>
>>34884498
Buddy thats pretty nice I doubt thatll happen. They did build some new ass barracks in SD like 2014 time frame. I saw them from outside at teh end of my deployement as I was getting out. Supposedly they were nice.
>>
>>34883140
Rota Spain, because are you fucking kidding me? Hot Spanish girls, gorgeous beaches, relaxed ops tempo. No curfew, and you can live off base. Id go back in a heartbeat.
>>
>>34884528
if you can make the appropriate argument about how it will save money, improve discipline, improve morale, and improve retention. then it could happen.

the biggest obstacle is all the old far t brass. the officers would be offended by enlisted being housed same as officers. the E9s would grumble about how the military isn't a hotel, get promoted or get married if you want out of the barracks, back when I was a private my barracks were much worse than what you have now.
>>
>>34884568
>back when I was a private my barracks were much worse than what you have now

I was at bragg and lived in barracks made during the Korean war era. mold, rust, floor/shower drains that spew sewage randomly, missing toilet seats, no hot water, broken furniture, no air conditioning, etc

some of the sgts living in my building rented a house off base. then they all got in trouble when the BN cmdr found out. told to move back into the barracks or get NJP.

Air force, but its a naval base. If you ever get tired of the island life you can take leave and travel space a on the rotator, it comes every weekend and stops a few places in EU, then the US and repeats. Or you can take a chance and travel space a on a C17 and stop where ever it goes. I spent alot of time traveling Europe on leave.

>>
>>34884967
why is having a ranger batt on base a bad thing?
>>
>>34884839
Really? My friend tell me that there was plenty of advisors from US, Poland, Estonia and some other NATO countries. It was authorised by Ukrainian government, it was not some kind of secret operation.
There was regular US army Black Hawks who do airlifting, and some engineers who constructed some kind of mission control centre.

>>
>>34885627
I got to do a lot of cool shit while I was in. It's such a vast field though, it really depends on what you'll do. What i did was more analogous to Navy's CTR or CTT rates. Only a portion of CTN duties cross over to 35N. I'd pick CTR in Navy over CTN or CTT.
>>
>>34885627
>>34885664
tacking on to that, your experence greatly depends on how much you are willing to learn. I was the SME for the section, and for most of ops. Learned a lot and so I was in charge of a lot of cool shit. As a SPC, I had reign over E-6's in other branches.

OCONUS - Anywhere in Europe. Japan if you're in the Marines.

Stateside, depends on the branch.

Marines - San Diego, Hawaii

Navy - San Diego, Hawaii, Everett, Whidbey Island NAS, Pensacola and Virginia Beach

Air Force - McChord, Hawaii, Elmendorf, Colorado Springs, Eglin

Army - Fort Lewis, Carson, Richardson (Wainright is also good), Hawaii, Stewart

Hope this helps. Be mindful of the WORST places too.

Navy - Falon, Bremerton

Air Force - Mountain Home (Idaho), anywhere in the Dakotas, Nebraska, Oklahoma or Kansas.

Marines - 29 Palms

Army - Yakima Training Center, Fort Irwin, Polk, Bliss, Sill, Drum

I'm telling you, Southern California is ripe for the picking for griillz. I was Infantry. If you're lucky you could be a pog and still stationed there. It's no different than the other branches pogs except the Marines will actually make you PT.

>>
>>34889920
>I just think it's stupid. Like "I want to be a cop, but I want to fill out paperwork".

>>
>>34889920
Cops fill out huge amounts of paperwork. Its why they take forever to talk to you when they pull you over.
>>
>>34889888
You know goddamn well the air force is filled with fat bodies. I was stationed on an air force base. I seent it. Even the airmen and ncos in the Health and wellness center and physical therapy were fucking fat.
>>
>>34889946
I thought they took so long because they have a mandatory donut break at every traffic stop
>>
>>34889968
That's not my point.

The Air Force is 95% technical jobs, 5% combat jobs. Finance, mpf, maintainers, medical don't need to be held to the same fitness standards as infantry for obvious reasons.

They want to be fat? Fine, let them make their own dumb ass decisions, it's just going to get them kicked out after they fail too many PT tests.
>>
>>34890003
I'm not saying that they should be able to keep up with army combat arms in fitness, just don't be fat. It's embarrassing to the uniform.

>it's just going to get them kicked out after they fail too many PT tests
It doesn't though, because every time their supervisor has them get some bs profile explaining away their problems when in reality, SrA Michelin Man can't put down the fucking doughnuts. Their commander won't kick fatties out because then he looks bad for having fatties. That's why they pencil whip PT tests.
>>
>>34890030
>It's embarrassing to the uniform.

The Air Force is in a delicate stage where we don't give a fuck about standards or appearance. Airmen lose their pride and "tradition" a week after getting to their first unit.

The Marine Corps has a meaningful and interesting history, and tradition to boot. Fitness being a major part of that history and tradition.

We don't have that, no one looks down on people for being fat here because, well, why would they? I don't know man, I kind of wish I could turn back time and commission into the Corps instead of enlisting into the Air Force. Either way I know I gotta take care of myself and let the other plebs in this branch deal with their own fitness.
>>
>>34888007
I have two buddies going there.

One as a CV-22 crew chief, the other is hydraulics for C-130s. Anything they should know?
>>
>>34890087
Standards and appearance are always important. Tradition is the one that isn't important, that's for dumb asses like marines or cav who need to drink the kool-aid to get through their shitty days.

Also, fitness isn't part of history or tradition.
>>
>>34890120
Hmm I guess tradition is just interesting to me because we have none.

The marine corps has been an efficient fighting force for a long time, you need fit marines to make that happen I would think

Currently I can find that the Marines are about 13% of boots on ground in Afghanistan alone. In Syria I think the Marines only have a single company, and not much in Iraq.

Funny thing about outperforming. Marines pride themselves on being amphibious, yet the largest amphibious assault of all time was the Army. And the Army has more amphibious assaults than the Marines. And would take island with the same, or worse, defense as ones the Marines took, but quicker and with fewer casualties.
>>
>>34890453
You're a stupid shit. Oh good. The typical 13 year old with the D day thing.

Hey genius, Marines were already engaged in the Pacific. If they had to land on Germany who'd be Island hopping the Pacific. Not to mention the Army had 8 million troops to the corps 500,000. That's 16:1. Then the Marines would of had to storm the beach and hand it to you. Then go fight bloodier and harder battles in Japan.

Sorry the Army had to get out of the boat that one time.
>>
>>34890486
My point was that the Army was also involved in the Pacific, more so than the Marines
>>
>>34890552
Except they weren't. Taking back the easy Philippine Islands /=/ the real Islands they actually cared about. The Army only ever contributed worthwhile was Okinawa because Europe was done.

Oh lets see...

Battle of Tarawa- November 1943
66% of troops were Army, the rest were Marines

Battle of Makin- November 1943
All Army

Battle of Kwajalein- February 1944
Majority Army

Battle of Eniwetok- February 1944
Mix of Army and Marines

Battle of Saipan- June and July 1944
~66% Marines, the rest was Army

Battle of Guam- July and August 1944
Mix of Army and Marines

Battle of Tinian- July and August 1944
Majority Marines but had Army and Seabee help

Battle of Peleliu- September through November 1944
Initially was 1st Marine ID but after they took 70% losses in less than a week 81st Army ID was sent in

Battle of Angaur- September and October 1944
All Army

Battle of Leyte- October through December 1944
All Army. And your're a fucking retard if you can't see the strategic importance of the Philipines and why the Japs needed them so desperately.

Battle of Okinawa- April through June 1945
Army was the real heavy hitters here, Marines were real dumb on Oki

Troops are rounded up.
Battles chosen we're cherry picked, notice no Iwo Jima, etc.
Some of it is flat out lies like Tarawa.
Okinawa was 2 divisions of Marines and 2 divisions of Army, so 50/50
The list goes on.

Burden on proof is on him (You). That's why I said cite it because it's incorrect and I'd prove it if he (You) tried.

married 18 year old privates get houses on base or BAH. no real problem there.

BAH varies wildly depending on the off base economy and rank. on base high rise towers would stabilize and fix costs to something far lower in a lot of places and for a lot of ranks. soldiers with out children won't be taking up more expensive on base houses.

a lot of discipline and morale problems are caused by the poor living conditions of barracks. you'll also get some improvement in retention and save money from not having to train up a new soldier.

everyone would be getting BAS. so you don't need mess halls on bases to feed the barracks dwellers anymore. cooks can double up their MOS and work supply when in garrison. all future supply people would also be cooks.

off base housing around a lot of bases tend to be shit or far away in order for it to be with in the BAH budget of a soldier.

depending on MOS or rating, and other personal factors. you will get promoted to E6 in 4 to 15 years.

so if you're a Sgt and a good soldiers, but because of your duty stations and you MOS being over strength in SSG and above. You can never get married. Since don't have the opportunity to max out your promotion points. Unless you change your MOS to one that us under strength in E6 and above and the military will actually let you.

Looks like a Single E-5 in Okinawa gets:
OHA Rental Allowance 166500.00 JAPANESE YEN $ 1530.47
Utility/Recurring Maintenance Allowance 57000.00 JAPANESE YEN $ 523.94
Move-In-Housing Allowance (MIHA) 45735 JAPANESE YEN $ 420.40

Wiesbaden, Germany:
OHA Rental Allowance 1791.00 EURO $ 2212.48
Utility/Recurring Maintenance Allowance 469.50 EURO $ 579.99
Move-In-Housing Allowance (MIHA) 576 EURO $ 711.55

In Colorado Springs he gets a flat $1284.
>>
>>34891332
see the guy's post i'm commenting on. he suggested that E-E5 shouldn't be married or have kids until SSG.
>>
>>34891343
Oh. Well yeah. But that's like me saying my daughter can't date until she's 30. It's what I want, but not realistic.

I thought you were agreeing with him. I got married as an e3. I just showed up Monday and said guess what I'm married now. I heard in the old old days command did have to give you permission to marry tho.
>>
>>34891342
there is a $1300 difference in the BAH of a E5 and an O7.

i was stationed at camp zama, which is near tokyo. one of my friends married a local but not soon enough to get sponsorship. so he got OHA to pay for his wife's housing off base. there were several periods of several months each, where exchange rates changed and OHA had not been raised to compensate. so he was out of pocket during those times.

I wouldn't build towers overseas anyways. Just on bases with in US territory.
>>
>>34890971
nobody has exact troop counts

I only picked major battles that included army

What is a lie about Tarawa?

Oki was 4 div of army (7,27,77,96) and 3 of marines (1,2,6), so not 50/50

Korea is literally the worst place to get stationed to get a wife. The chances of a Korean getting involved with you is 1/10000. Pretty much everyone who gets married in Korea marries a Filipina prostitute (aka drinky/juicy girl). EVERY SINGLE SOLDIER who is married to a Filipina that he met in Korea is married to a prostitute. If he tells you she was a waitress or anything else, he is lying. They will also bail on you the exact moment that their feet hit US soil. A hillbilly kid that was in my unit in Korea married the third Filipina hooker that he got engaged to (because the third one was the first he proposed to that he didn't catch with another client) and she ditched him in SEATAC literally as soon as she got her luggage. He went to the bathroom and she hopped in a cab, never to be seen again.

tl;dr: DON'T MARRY ANYTHING IN KOREA

Ok you didn't lie. But that's a perfect example of just cherry picking. The Marines did take insane losses. They took the beach tho. Then the Army came and helped mop up
>Okinawa
Again, I've asked for citations you refuse to give. Even if it was 4 to 3, reminder the corps only has 3 divisions to THIS day. So literally the entire corps was there.

Its an unfair comparison. If you wanted more Marines there, recruit more. Saying the Army "did more" with a 16:1 ratio is absurd. You Should have done more.

That would be like If I had a construction company with 16 workers, and you only had 1. I could easily flaunt my company could do more.

>married 18 year old privates get houses on base or BAH. no real problem there
I shouldn't have to explain to you the difference between a married couple sharing a space and a single man living by himself.

>We could fix up the barracks, or build new higher quality ones
>No we need fucking high-rises
Just because you're salty about living in shitty conditions doesn't mean you're an expert on the economics of housing hundreds of thousands.

I remember when you first posted this shitty concept at least a month ago and people rightly called you a retard then and every time since. A sign of maturity is knowing when you're wrong and moving on, maybe you should consider doing that.
>>
>>34891437
It's a cultural thing. Koreans are big on Korean purity, Japanese are bigger on personality.
>>
>>34891646
barracks are always going to be shitty by their nature.

i've seen a lot of soldiers not take care of their barracks, but their car and other valuable items that were their property were pristine. It is because the barracks room doesn't register as being "their's" in their head. how could it ? when you have a culture that constantly enforces the idea that their room is just a place at work they are allowed to sleep and fap.

you privatize these towers like they did family houses on base years ago. you make them put down a security deposit, you make them sign papers putting them financially responsible for damage, you give them a utility allowance and charge them for overages and credit them for staying under, you keep their supervisors and chain of command away. you establish a culture that puts the idea in soldiers' heads that their quarters are their home. they will take better care of it.

i've seen a lot of married soldiers, officers, and higher NCOs that live like shit in their on base house or their off base housing. yet no one really gives a flying fuck about them. at least not in the way that soldiers in barracks are constantly hounded.

My favorite part was when the Army told the Navy to shell Shuri castle for 3 fucking days straight because otherwise it would be a meat grinder, and the Marines thought "oh, looks like the Army is a bunch of pussies not going to take Shuri, I guess we'll go do it". Note that this was happening as shelling was going on.

>Shuri Castle had been shelled by the battleship USS Mississippi for three days before this advance. Due to this, the 32nd Army withdrew to the south and thus the Marines had an easy task of securing Shuri Castle. The castle, however, was outside the 1st Marine Division's assigned zone and only frantic efforts by the commander and staff of the 77th Infantry Division prevented an American air strike and artillery bombardment which would have resulted in many casualties due to friendly fire.

Army had to call the Navy to get them to stop so the Marines didn't walk into friendly steel rain. After it stopped, Marines strolled in because Japs retreated.

If you live on Whidbey Island... your already pretty much 2 fucking hours away from Seattle and its traffic. Literally the only reason even go on I-5 towards Everette is if you WANT to go to Seattle. Even then it is still easier to take the Ferry.

If you can't buy it on Island, Burlington, or Mount Vernon then just order the shit online. Want to go shooting? Pick a range, the Island alone has like 4 or just drive out towards Big Lake past Mount Vernon and just shoot on the logging trails like everyone else.

There is zero reason to have to deal with the Seattle bullshit unless you specifically WANT to deal with the Seattle bullshit.
