Well best and most effective l are two different things which are being confused.
The T-34's and Shermans were probably the most effective tanks of the war looking past the use of the Panzer's during the invasions of Poland and France, and the early lart of the russian campaign.

The best tank is a different question though, and it would probably be something like the KV-1 or Panther.
