It's almost completely done; the first Block 3F F-35 is being delivered in around a month and there's probably something like 230+ F-35s flying today.

It's probably worth pointing out too that the F-35 is only about 1 year older than the PAK-FA. Lockheed was picked to create the F-35 in 2001, Sukhoi was picked to create the Su-57 in 2002. Now look where they are.

Software, for the most part. Everything else is basically done. There's already several dozen in service and there are multiple clients already operating at least five of them.

LRIP-11 soon. LRIP-12 through 14 span up to 2021 and cover roughly 440 aircraft. So it's pretty much here and done. If that many aircraft is still "low rate" though, I am interested in seeing what FRP is going to look like.

The chinese cannot come up with jackshit on their own.
For example they have tried for decades to develop a domestic jet engine to power their fighter aircrafts.
But have a look at their shiny "stealth" fighter! In the end all of the prototypes of that Chengdu J-20 where powered by imported russian Saturn AL-31 engines.
And they built only 8 of them.

And why can't they develop shit?
Corruption!
The government officials and party member generals just looooooove to embezzle every last Renminbi of the research and development funds.

But all this is not important to them, because it is not the task of the PLA to defend China.
Their real task is something else entirely.
