AR500 armor sometimes get shit on, but with this anniversary sale is it worth trying if I don't have any plates/carriers?

Now José can run around wearing armor for the price of a Hi-Point.

>>
I bought one, no idea the diff between this and the tetesudo
>>
>>34877295
Is there some kind of catch? Why are these so cheap? And how long is this sale going on for?
>>
>>34878649
Probably because more companies are getting into the market at lower prices.
>>
>>34878681
Makes sense. This says its an Independence Day sale, but when does it end?
>>
>>34877295
Do they come with plates?
>>
>>34878731
Anyone? I don't get paid until friday and i'd like a plate carrier if it stays this price

>>34878748
It appears so
>>
Whelps, I said fk it and got Sentry carrier, level III+ lightweight plates with build-up coating, and 2 trauma pads for $299 shipped.

>>34878731
>>34878845
Their facebook says "Our Anniversary sale is running now through the 18th."

>>34878748
Yes, front and back, level III (III+ optional).

Thanks for that link, just snagged a coyote carrier. That's a good fuckin deal
>>
Is the optional soft armor worth it to add?
>>
have plate carriers and armor ever been this cheap? I need to justify this as a long investment because I'm a frugal neet
>>
>>34879286
Yes because it's rated for those rounds with the insert
>>
>>34878681
Armor newfag here. What are some examples of armor that "better" than AR500 but approaching their price? Also, what makes AR500 shitty according to some?
>>
>>34879286
You can get those or just get the trauma pads for even cheaper.
>>
Looking through the site it looks like all their bullshit is on sale, but plates themselves aren't
>>
>>34880088
>what makes AR500 shitty according to some?
They got some bad steel one time and a bunch of nogunz autists freaked out about it and started a bunch of rumors. Contrary to those rumors, they did replace the plates made with bad steel. I live about a mile from their store and went with a buddy who bought some of the bad plates and they traded his out for good ones with no issue. AR500 plates are fine other than tht one incident, they are just steel so weigh a little more than ceramic. They take a lot more abuse and you can't crack steel plates like you can ceramic. As long as you aren't a manlet, the extra 3-4 lbs shouldn't bother you to have stronger plates that are half as thick as ceramic plates.
>>
>>34877295
>>34877295
nice try AR500 sale rep
>>
>>34880050
untrue.

The plates from ar500 are rated standalone.
>>
>>34880088
surplus esapi plates, some fast rounds that ceramic would stop will punch straight through ar500
>>
>>34880655
Where you getting that data? And at what ranges?
>>
>>34880088
None, everything that is "better" is way more expensive and has a short shell life plus can crack easily.

Just get some lvl lll+ and you are good to go for the majority of rifle rounds.
>>
>>34877295
Thanks OP; that's a hell of a deal. Picked up an Operator II in coyote with upgraded plates. $232 shipped is pretty hard to beat.

I was willing to look three inches down from your video to see where they test their III+ armor and it stops m193.

>>34877295
welp.

Thanks for the link, OP. I just pulled the trigger, got the same config as this guy: >>34879180

Finally scratching buying armor off my to-do list. Got a free plate carrier hanger too. Neat.

well then buy that brand

and watch out for .300
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4kgMXjA2Zk
>>
>>34880732
all over youtube. m193 from a 20" barrel is the most common one that comes to mind.

>>34880905
no, there are many other steel armor companies as well they're all gimicky though like quad bend cati steel plates. you don't even have to go up to 7.62 nato bro, look at my first response up top.
>>
>>34882329
It was the AR500 III+ that stopped m193. Is anything under IV rated for .300 Win Mag? NIJ stuff I can find is being coy.
>>
>>34882479
> NIJ standards
Completely unintuitive. They list III as stopping 7.62x51 FMJ, with a subnote that 5.56 JSP/HP are covered as well.

But then they show that IIII is required for 7.62x51 AP or even m855. No mention of m193 at all.

How a civie or a LEO should interpret this regarding domestic threats is a giant PITA.
>>
>>34882479
my point was the patriot plate III+ ar500 got swiss cheesed by copper solids out of a 16 inch barrel. "+" isn't a standard, it means armor will stop what the manufacturer says it will stop. high velocity were defeating metal armors so they scrambled to fix it against m193
>>
>>34880088
The CPE plates from Varusteleka. They run around $230, but the level III+ standalone weighs about 3 pounds, and the level 4 is 6 pounds.
>>
>>34882555
Is it reasonable to expect that anything rated for m193 will not cover m855 or monolithics?
>>
>>34882555
Do copper solids penetrate better than lead/copper with all other factors the same?
>>
The fuck does level III+ offer that level III doesn't? Can't find shit online.
>>
regarding body armor, if you are unsure about the protection of the armor you are going to buy just tell yourself one thing
>will it stop 30-06 ?
if the answer is yes, then you can use it for anything
if answer is no, just buy it to dick around or train with it
>>
>>34882680
>>34882795
it really seems to depend on the speed, over what the plate is rated for fps wise might go through.
>>
>>34882878
III+is strictly an industry standard, no government testing standard for III+ exists. In essence, a level III+ plate will only stop what the manufacturer says it will stop.
>>
It needs to be noted that ceramic plates aren't as fragile as some people here make it out to be. You can dive and land on those plates without them breaking a sweat; I remember seeing a guy on YouTube throwing one and hitting it with a sledge hammer without it breaking as well. If it couldn't handle, you know, WAR, then the military wouldn't use it. Seriously, durability is not an issue with ceramic plates.

Steel can only do two things better than ceramics in my opinion:
1. It can be thinner
2. It can be cheaper.
>>
>>34879286
Soft armor just lets you swap out when you don't feel like wearing "heavy" plates and/or aren't expecting more than pistol rounds. E.g. taking pistol class, or airshitting but still want "legit armor inside"...
>>
What's shipping cost?
>>
>>34884339
I paid $12 on mine.

Can't ar500 cause the bullet to fragment in all directions including up at your face and throat?

Can someone recommend a relative noob what to buy here? Am a califag so would like to snag armor before the commies in the legislature make it illegal, but I don't know much about it.

>>
>>34884678

Honestly the big selling point for me is that III+ has protection for pretty much everything your garden variety dindu or redneck can muster, yet I don't have to worry about my plate possibly being compromised if it gets dropped, with or without it's carrier.

>inb4 just don't drop it

>>34880225
i went to the store... work out in phoenix...
the sales dude who helped me out was pretty cool....and he wasnt afraid of anything... also he's the only person who carries a .22 for conceal that i kno

So I don't really know what the fuck I'm doing here. Will I regret not getting the lightweight version of the 3+? How necessary is the 3A soft armor or trauma pads?
>>
>>34885112
Bumping for curiosity.
Also my measurements are inbetween the standard 10x12 and the xl 11x14.

Fyi I'm 11x13

What size should I get?

My observations... I retyped the threat rating description for legibility.

Left/right-handed orientation dictates which corner is cut slightly more.

Lightweight is slightly thinner and weaker. 3000 fps 5.56 would be a 16" AR right in front of you.

>>34885112
III/III+ will stop the bullets they're rated for from passing; just get the trauma pads to protect your body from the dents. (Also the Rimelig soft armor is 1/2" thick vs 1/4" of the pads.)

Whether you're fine carrying 18 lb of plates and carrier is up to you. There's an older lightweight version on the site that weighs 5.5 (vs 6.5) lb per piece, but I dunno which they're giving in these sets. (It's cut more and doesn't have left/right-handed orientation.)
