Hello you.
Can you tell me why LMGs are called light machine guns. I mean why light they look fucking huge and heavy, is it all a fucking joke?

Compared to an M2?
Because they're smaller than gpmgs and hmgs.

They are light compared to medium machine guns. Compare an m249 or mg4 to an m240 or mg3.
Light Machine Gun means it's a squad or crew carriable and deployable machine gun. Usually in a smaller caliber and used for suppression and anti-infantry use. Heavy Machine Guns are larger calibers and used for destroying things that a meager .308 or 5.56 can't easily. Usually they're a helluva lot heavier and not crew serviceable.
I'd rather lug around a 240 or a M249 rather than a M2.

Because it's light enough to be carried and shot by a dude instead of being mounted on a rack and/or vehicle

it is to make the enemy think we are strong by saying that we think they are light
it's a relative term dipshit
OP here.
