In this thread we take a break from stuff used by big guys in playground and focus on stuff made by smaller countries. Doesn't have to be something high tech, just something with we don't hear about all the time.

Today I want introduce you to RAK 120mm self propeled mortar system. Made in Poland, on Rosomak chassis, with is based upon Finnish Partia AMV. Thanks to that this, mortar have extreamly good mobility and is amphibious, with allows for very fast relocation.

>But it's just a mortar piece, nothing special!

Well, It is true that you can't make much from a concept of a SP mortar but there are few things that make this one to be considered as one of the best of it's class:
Autoloading system, with allows for extremely fast shooting. Autoloader doesn't need gun to go back to 0 degree position. What's more it is not based on magazine and takes shells right from main ammo storage, so salvo length is not limited by magazine size.
Almost no time required to prepare for shooting. Just stop, shoot few shoots very fast and move your ass to new position.
And the best part: Minimum crew to operate is 2 men (Driver, commander) since firing computer can do all the work. Hell, it can even automaticly pick up targets provided by drones, with no need for a human to do anything.
Besides that, it have everything that normal mortar gets like GPS targeting or ability for direct firing.

No many numbers are available, since its very new. Today I had a chance to get inside it and ask a few quastions to solider operating on it but not allowed to take any pictures of the inside.

TL;DR: Good mortar, going fast.

Mowag Piranha. The Americans bought the design and built the LAV-25 and the Stryker over it.

Warm in the winter, unsufferably hot in the summer, shit transmission bar running through the middle of the personnel compartment making it a poor fit but for the shortest of manlets, but it's a reliable vehicle with a damn powerful engine and pretty absurd offroad capabilities.

Thats must be prototype, looks nothing like today on military parade. BTW Canadians teach your soliders how to march. It was fucking terrible to see Polish and Romanian soliders marching perfectly and then Canadians came with casual walk, not even in rythm and keeping arms straight. Its a Swedish Archer artillery system. 50 km max range, fast as hell (something like 80 km/h) and decent in the terrain. Also it is compleatly automated and can be crewed by a single person if needed.
>>
>>34870736
I don't get this one. Sure it can shoot 20 rounds at incredibly high speed, but then you spend some hours reloading the autoloader taking the whole thing useless
>>
>>34870799
Oh, so it is like BKAN. I mean it is great for one salvo, but it is not able to provide support for too long. Swedish doctrine is just weird.
>>

Shoot and scoot tactics. The deal is to be accurate so you dont need to fire for so long. Also, we expect incoming counter artillery within minutes, so we dont want to hang around.

The Pereh entered service in 1985, and was declassified in 2015. Up until declassification, only a handfull of pictures surfaced on the internet, the first from 2006 Lebanon and half of them from the 2014 Gaza war. I knew of the thing in 2012 and had a pretty good idea of what it was, but to people other than rabid AFV fans it was unknown. The purpose of the fake gun is twofold-
1. To conceal the real function of the vehicle. In 1985 it just looked like an upgraded Magach, not a 13-km-range (1st gen Spike NLOS) IIR missile carrier; this gave Israel a decisive secret capability to destroy Soviet-style advancing armor columns from waaaay beyond their effective range.
2. Tactical camo. Assuming the enemy knows you have super ATGM carriers, you want to hide them. This thing looks like a tank to all but the keenest observers, which means it isn't prioritised as a target by TACAIR or ground troops, improving survivability.

Point 1 is the more vital, and they did a pretty good job; until it was declassed, there were many discussions about the few pics available and whether the gun was a 60mm autocannon and such.
