What is life

some guy was selling a type 99 for 600$. he had put a cheap synthetic stock on it and had drilled two holes in the receiver for a scope mount, one of which was straight through an INTACT chrysanthemum.
the AR crowd is to blame for this shit, they think every raifle is modifiable to fit every sitcheation

Sporterization has been happening since 1803 though

No, it's literally fudds wanting old infantry rifles to be more like their Winchester model 70.

Except people have sporterized milsurp since before Eugene Stoner's and Jim Sullivan's parents were born.
>need gun for hunting and general purpose
>military is selling obsolete musket/rifle for cheap, they don't need it and just want to get rid of it
>gunsmith makes a new rifle from ground up but costs much more
>thus buy cheap obsolete rifle and have gunsmith modify it for needed purposes, cheap
You can find old Civil War era muskets that had their rifling bored out to make them hunting shotguns, this was done in the same era. In fact this was done a lot because there was a huge surplus of guns and a low demand after the war was over.
You people seem to have some kind of idea that guns are first and foremost seen as collectibles.

More often than not this was done by people who didn't want to pay more for a Winchester Model 70
