All pictures and questions here! Come one, come all!

I was just cleaning out my safe and playing with my old Rossi model 68 when I noticed that Brazil is spelled Brasil. On other 68's, Brazil looks to be spelled correctly. Is this normal or a goof up?

>>
>>34868714
the locks themselves arent the worst problem. easily removed, and only impact functionality in a few select models.

the problem is giving money that fucks over the consumer on purpose so they can get tax rebates.
S&W parent company, whateverthefuck outdoors. owns the company making the locks too. and sells them to S&W at a huge loss

.357 snubs are NOT fun to shoot very many rounds out of. If you are gonna CCW a .357 snub you're gonna practice with light .38spl, maybe shoot a cylinder of .357 and call it a day. Carry will be with .357 loads.

If you want a range toy for fun with magnum rounds get a medium frame gun with at least a 4" barrel.

really? I was thinking fixed sights would be more durable in the long run. I drop my guns when I play with them at home sometimes and I'd hate to have to take it in because I dropped it and broke the rear sight or something.
>>
Im on the fence about buying a dan wesson model 44, the gun looks like a mix of ruger and s&w and i dont much like the cylinder latch placement (even though my hand will be there to extract) whats /k/'s opinion
>>
>>34870384
Unless you just want the barrel changing gimmick for shits and giggles or you find a good deal you just can't pass up there's nothing to really recommend the DW over a comparable Ruger or Smith.
>>
>>34870400
The barrel change is a reason actually, im planning on making it a .44 mag/.45 colt revolver and i hear dan's are comparable to ruger strength.
All id need to do is buy a new cylinder ream it for the 45 and have a blank barrel made for it.
Hell i could shoot some 45 acp if i get shortened barrel right? Assuming that the sighting wont be fucked from the case sizes
>>
>>34870426
Explain how that's gonna work anon. If the frame is threaded for a .44 barrel how you gonna thread a .45 barrel in there that, if it fits at all, is not dangerously thin walled?
>>

There's a reason all convertible guns use bullets with the same diameter. I don't think you can get proper timing on a cylinder bored for .45 out of a gun originally setup for .44. Alos if you're talking about a cylinder the same size bored for .45 instead of .44 then the cylinder walls will be thinner which is not suggestive of increased strength/loading potential.

If you want a big bore DA convertible just get one of pic related.
>>
>>34870491
Only negative I have read about those guns is that the Ruger moon clips are not the greatest design-wise. Seen people complaining about breakage. But at least their kind inexpensive.
>>
>>34870525
Never played with moonclips before, they're semi-consumable items though right? Nothing stopping me from using speedloaders on the .45lc right?
>>
>>34871059

Quads do not lie.
>>
>>34868868
I swapped out the stock grips on my GP100 for a pair of Hogue combat grips.

My hand fit the default grips fine; I just hate finger grooves.
>>
>>34871669
Not really. WAY more autos get sold so economies of scale kick in for them that generally make them a much better value for what you get. Also a cheap auto is harder to screw up from a design/maufacturing standpoint than a cheap revolver. For example it would be practically impossible to make a revolver that could compete on price with a hipoint.

That being said there are some inexpensive revolvers out there if you just have to have a wheelgun for cheap, but if your goal is the most bang for your buck a $300 Canik tp9sf is a much better overall gun than any revolver you could get for similar money.

I have these marks inside the barrel of my LCR, and I'm not sure what they are.

My usual cleaning with patches turns up no additional grime, and they don't look like scratches from my cleaning rod.

The only thing I can thing of is that they're scorch marks, but I can't say for certain. I took the best picture I could of the bore; can anyone tell what these marks are?
>>
>>34874779
Picture is shit but I'd bet it's either lead or copper build up. What you been chooting? Look at the muzzle from the side so you can see a bit of the rifling. See any green in there? If you do it's copper.

If it's copper: Get some foaming bore cleaner that removes copper and repeat cleaning until it's all gone,

If it's lead: Get some lead cloth. Cut some off and wrap it around a smaller diameter bore brush so it's a tight fit in your bore and push it through until you get it all out. You're gonna want a dedicated brush for this as it's gonna get fuck full of lead cloth fibers.
>>
>>34874835
No green.

I shot some 158gr LRN, 125gr +P, and some 150gr hard cast wadcutters.

The wadcutters were the newest ammo I've shot out of it, but the other stuff never left any residue after cleaning before.

And I shot all the same ammo out of my GP100, and the bore was squeaky clean as usual after cleaning. That's why I'm so confused.

I'll see if I can't get a better picture.

Anything but the 629. .44 mag is expensive and will not give you the best first handgun experience. Financially speaking, the 92fs would be your best bet, as the gun as well as what it eats will be cheaper than either revolver.

It's all up to you though.

I want to eventually get a revolver for range use and occasional CCW.

Thinking either a Chiappa, ruger security six, ruger match champion, or S&W 686 +. All in 4" of course.

Anybody got recommendations to check out? I strongly prefer a 4" barrel, under 3" i don't really see the point in carrying a .357.
>>
>>34882858
Chiappa is shit. S&W is fine if you can live with having a cuck lock hole in your gun. Security six is good gun, but all of them are at least 30yrs old. My personal choice was a stainless GP100 4". I didn't think the Match champion was worth the extra money since fiber front sight is cheap, I do my own action work and the big MATCH CHAMPION billboards are ugly as fuck to me.
>>
>>34870284
4". weight/concealment difference is really low and that 1" of barrel means 250fps of performance.

>>34876937
92. cheaper ammo, lower recoil, more capacity.

>>34876913
I'd go with a model 10 if you really like smiths or don't care to shoot .357 mag. Otherwise the ruger security six is probably your best bang for the buck. they're usually about 450-500 in my area.

>>34882913
What makes chiappa so bad? I've heard that they had some QC issues early on but are pretty good these days. I hate the full underlug/fatty look of the GP100 and 686. Only reason im considering the latter is the extra round.

>What makes chiappa so bad?

Aluminum frame .357 is super fail on anything but a lightweight 5 shot pocket gun that isn't meant to be shot a lot with magnum loads. I also think the lockwork is failure waiting to happen. Lastly the bottom chamber being the firing chamber in an aluminum-framed gun is a recipe for unpleasantness if you have a kaboom. You basically have .5" of aluminum between you and an explosion.

It's not the odds of a failure that give me pause about the Rhino, it's the stakes. Plus it doesn't do anything better than more proven designs. The whole "fires from the bottom chamber" is basically a marketing gimmick to garner some market share in a very mature market. Perfect for the "hey look at me and my special thing" crowd.

Find me a picture of a steel frame gun that had a kaboom so bad that the lower frame and trigger guard are completely destroyed pretty much guaranteeing a life-altering injury.

Pic related is what a failure in one of the world's strongest guns looks like. Even if it's a stupid low chance I'm not risking my trigger finger for some meme-gun that doesn't put holes in anything any better than more proven designs.

One time I triggered a jew with the "the Holocaust didn't happen but I wish it had" meme and he threatened to send Antifa death squads after me and then threatened with the police and then just left the party

No, I'm planning to buy a used Model 10 when I'm able.

Shooting .38 Special out of my GP100 is all well and good, but I'd kind of prefer a dedicated .38 Special revolver.
>>
>>34883571
>Do you like your LCR or GP100 more?

My GP100 is the better gun, without question.

The LCR is made well, but it's difficult to shoot accurately due to its light weight adding extra kick/recoil (even standard 158gr LRN has some kick).

The LCR might make a better CCW piece since it's more concealable; doesn't mean much to me though, since I no longer plan on conceal carrying.

If I could sell my LCR, I would.

Bought my first revolver last week, got to shoot it for the first time last night. Pic related is it.

Pretty neat, I enjoy it more than shooting semi-autos for some reason.
>>
Would I regret getting a .38 only revolver as my first handgun? I personally wouldn't want to shoot a .357 in my apartment or any small, indoors locations because of the noise and recoil. The only times I can think of shooting it would be for fun or as a trail gun. I ask because my budget allows for a ton of .38s but not that many non-snubby .357s.
>>
>>34888212
No, especially if you're planning on getting a snubby. 357 snubbies are for retards who don't understand that the short barrel is not long enough to get much power behind the bullet, and most of the cartridge's power will come as recoil, big noise, and a bright flash that's not much more powerful than a 38 from the same barrel.
38 is classy, and I intend on using mainly 38 out of a gp100 when I finally save enough.
>>
>>34888262
Forgot to mention I didn't want a snubby, I was going to get a 3-4" barrel regardless of what I choose. I only mentioned it because there are not as many normal length .357s at my budget unless I get a Taurus, so I would have to look harder.

.38 is fun, I'm just wondering if anyone felt the same way as I did and ended up regretting buying something like a model 10 when they don't have a lot of disposable income to buy guns with.
>>
>>34888212

>>

>>
>>34896899
The J-frames have had issues with frame stretching and the K-frames have had issues with forcing cone cracking.
Most people won't shoot enough .357 throught their Js for it to matter, and K-frame .357s are redundant now that the L-frame exists.
L- and N-frames are mechanically solid, some people get super butthurt about the internal lock.
They'll never be as tough or accurate as a Manurhin, but they're accurate enough for most shooters and you're not realistically going to wear out three 686es in your lifetime.

Part of the reason they are so cheap is that the QC is shit. Basically where S&W might ship 90% of what they make with 10% not making the cut and being sent back through for correction before being sent out(costs money but gives you a rep for not shipping too many turds). RIA probably ships 100% and just deals with the issue after a customer initiates contact. So they save some money by only having to fix the guns that a customer notices is defective.

If you can evaluate a gun at time of purchase you can get a good one.

Is it better to use heavier bullets in revolvers?

I was told lighter bullets wear out the forcing cone, and .38/.357 revolvers are sighted for 158gr bullets

K- and L- frames are so close to dimensionally identical that leather K/L holsters are interchangeable.
A K- and L- frame in the same caliber with the same barrel length will only differ in weight by an ounce.
There's literally no reason to get a K-frame .357 for "serious" use now that the L-frame exists.
PS don't get a scandium gun, they have a problem where they just snap right in half without warning and they suck.
>>
>>34905261
>snap right in half
I'm pretty sure if that were common they wouldn't still be made, and I won't shoot .357 anyways, so I'm not worried. Thanks for the info.

What revolvers were most commonly issued to police back in the 60s-80s? Were L frame S&Ws or the Ruger/Colt equivalents commonly used, or did they stick to K frames?
>>
>>34908510
Colts and K-Frame Smiths, mostly.

Since Ruger didn't introduce their first DA revolver with the Security Six series until the 70's, they weren't as widespread.

Goddamnit, I hate when this shit happens, it's like Ferguson all over again. Can't you be happy with your own board? Do you really need to bring your political shit into a thread about revolvers? Is it necessary?

This is why people hate you. You're literally furfags.

Spend a few days a month running full power loads through the SP101,

Thank me when your hand bleeds and your dick breaks through your trousers because they're fun as fuck and totally work that price
>>
Is Charter Arms still the only company making revolvers in rimless cartridges? I thought Taurus and a few more made some but I have only ever seen a CA in gunshops
>>
>>34910657

ruger makes a few models of the blackhawk in rimless cartridges (9mm/.357 convertible, and one in .30 carbine), and smith and wesson make (or made, not sure if its still in production) a couple .45 ACP revolvers.
>>
Why hasn't someone made a .25 magnum revolver cartridge? Keep pressures as high as .327, and it'd shoot a 100-110 grain bullet about as fast I'd imagine, while increasing capacity.

I like ruger and any gun is better than no gun, but fucking why? Who would feel okay with that?
>>
>>34912205
Probably people who want a back-up gun that uses the same ammo as their primary carry gun.
>>
>>34912205
Pro: Moon clips are better than speed loaders in defense situation (and cheaper). Also the more common caliber.
Con: A lot of power is lost (cylinder gap and short barrel). Defensive rounds may not perform as intended.
>>
>>34912552
they should do a 9mm version like the korth sky marshall that doesnt require moon clips
>>
>>34894748
Literally why would you want that? It wouldn't be any cheaper if that's what you're thinking. The point of the GP100 is that it's overbuilt as fuck, so you might as well shoot magnum rounds out of it.

the 9mm lcr is notorious for having bullets jump crimp
making it extract without moonclips would make it way more complex for no real gain

if all I shoot is .38, a .38 only gun would be better because it wouldn't need to be cleaned after every range trip

and because the GP100 is built tough, it would make an excellent .38 only gun
>>
>>34913518
there aren't many great 115 gr hollow point loads, I would rather stick with a single stack 9mm

>>
>>34911131
Lack of interest, I suppose.
People would rightly assume it was a varminting cartridge, and for that we've already got .22 WMR and .22 Hornet.
>>
>>34913533
If all you shoot is .38, you can shoot a .357 just as well without cleaning it every time; the extra fouling at the front of the cylinder only matters if you shoot a bunch of .38 and then go to shoot some .357 without cleaning it first.

I hate how unresponsive to the public's needs Ruger is.
My money is theirs for the taking; all they have to do is make guns that I'm interested in buying, like a .44 Mag Toklat or an 8-shot .357 Redhawk with a 4" barrel (4.2", knowing them).
>>
>>34916325
Wonder why they don't offer their Redhawk 8-shot with different barrel sizes.
>>
I've got a S&W 617 and there are wildly different points of impact depending on what type of 22lr I'm shooting, but always seems to shoot high. Never had a handgun that didn't hit where the sights were pointing before. My 617's sights are adjustable for windage, not elevation. What do /k/?

If you have the factory S&W rear sight on your gun then it is adjustable for both windage and elevation. Read your manual or find a copy online.

Send it back to S&W because the rear sight is broken.

If you can get a pinned & recessed 29 get it, they're sex. If you're getting a Super I strongly suggest getting a bisley, the grip frame is much more forgiving on your hand with hot loads.

Don't discount Redhawks either.
