Horrible fucking job if you're looking to do actual work. Great if you don't mind being a lazy piece of shit 24/7. There's nothing to fucking do out here. The most excitement you get is when you throw cardboard boxes over the side and try to shoot them while the ship spins around.
>>
>>34867484
>NC star shits top cover rail
>smooth side Saigas
Hmmm
>>
I was offered this job by a friend after being finishing my service,
It's about 100k a year, 2 weeks at sea, 2 weeks at home - sometimes you get longer routes and a longer stay at home.

The job is mostly you doing nothing and taking gear pics and maybe once in a year or two you get to fire warning shots at untrained malnourished Africans.
>>
>>34867583
Wtf that sounds great
>>
>>34867583
Sign me up.
>>
>>34867583
can you listen to music on the job, or bring a crate of fucking books? Is there wifi? How's the chow?
>>
>>34867682
seconding the crate of books question

is military or police service required? what if i was a boy scout (kidding)?

What about cooks? can i get a job making food for a pmc?
>>
>>34867583
>>34867682
>>34867753
Not that guy, but over here in Germany you can take the course for the job for like 3000 bucks, and it takes like three months of training to get the cert. After that, top lel, do whatever you want. You're supposed to ensure maritime safety. When the boat is in the middle of the pacific, what would they want from you? Sit on deck and read a book, as long as your big scary bangstick is next to you, i don't think anybody will bother you.
>>
As a private/leisure sailor it's pretty much hell on earth sailing with a gun and clearing into foreign ports with it, does this apply to maritime security operatives as well or does the shipping company have special deals with customs in the destination countries?
>>
>>34867400
>tfw ywn be a maritime security operative
why would you wan to be one? the pay is absolute garbage
>>
>>34867798
>$100k
>to chill on a boat, see the world and occasionally shoot Somalian savages in derelict boats

Sounds pretty good to me
>>
>>34867821
>$100k
show me a company that pays 100k, most pay around $12-$14 dollars an hour
>>
>>34867798

When I did boarding party in the Middle East many years ago all I could think about was becoming maritime security
>own cabin
>better food
>better hours
>better pay
> less Fuckheads
These huge merchant ships only have a crew of 10-20
And the officers messes look fucking incredible about the size of the wardroom on a warship
I regret not doing private Security before settling down
>>
>>34867836
>14 dollars an hour
>at work 24 hours a day
>7 days on, then 7 days off
>lolovertime after the first 40 hours.
>this comes out to 3,248 dollars a week, twice a month.
>78,000 dollars a year
Ask us how we know you don't have a job.
>>
>>34867850
you aren't on the clock 24hrs a day, you have shifts between guard duties, you usually have a normal 8-10hr work day

http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=Maritime_Security_Officer/Hourly_Rate

https://www.indeed.com/salaries/Maritime-Security-Officer-Salaries
>>
>>34867850
how do you work for 168 hours in one shift.
>>
>>34867836
>>34867858
>>34867860

I got the "100k" from >>34867583 who quoted a job offer. If you guys have different experiences, please share
>>
>>34867860
>>34867860
In one WEEK you would be on the clock for 168 hours
>>
Do they only consider ex-LEO and ex-military?
>>
>>34867863
the only time you'd make 100k, is probably with over 10 years experience in the company you work with as a Chief Security Officer. Be realistic anon, working security for maritime ops isn't that difficult anymore, especially with established routes. No one is going a former infantry soldier 100k to stand around with a rifle and do nothing.
>>
>>34867870
so that includes sleep???
>>
>>34867858
I would be negotiating the shit out of that. There is no doubt that even if you weren't "on the clock" that it would be all hands of shot went down. Read up on labor laws, that likely falls into on call work.
>>
>>34867876
The thought here is if you are expected to perform your duties at a given time, you are on the clock. Labor laws get fucky around these sorts of things. A case could be made that you are technically perform job duties if you are at sea and are expected to respond to emergencies, even while sleeping.
>>
>>34867858
14 bucks an hour to get shot at? What hell. No way am I doing that.
>>
>>34867791
>does this apply to maritime security operatives as well or does the shipping company have special deals with customs in the destination countries?
yes to both

some have pre-existing arrangements, others just deal with the normal bullshit of travelling armed

ive heard some agencies even just buy very cheap guns and throw them overboard when returning to western ports
>>
>>34867872
>Do they only consider ex-LEO and ex-military?
almost exclusively
>>
>>34867682
I never took the job so I'm only passing on what I was told -
there are daily drills, sometimes surprise drills, you take fitness tests once in a while, depending on your crew commander you may be expected to perform some sort of fitness routine, there's a manned watch position at all times except during bad weather, you need to maintain your gear and crew gear, besides watch duty you also have response crew duties meaning you're supposed to be on gear and in position within a short while which means you're supposed to be fully clothed and within immediate reach of your gear.

As for leisure there's supposedly existent but bad internet, you can do w/e you want off shift as long as you can be battle ready under a certain time. This all obviously depends on who your crew commander is and how harshly he perceives his role.

Food quality depends on the shipping company.

>>34867753
The company that offered me the job only took people with military training but there are others that offer a course.
>What about cooks? can i get a job making food for a pmc?
You use the ship operator's utilities.

>>34867875
That was the sum I was offered - the company however only takes former military. In fact they had even higher paying roles if you didn't mind living on an oil rig for 4 months at a time.
>>
>>34867400
Maybe you should go to the gym, then.
>>
What companies are you guys referring to?
>>

>Look at me, I want to be a Navy SEAL but I cannot even get accepted for BUDS

SEALs are overrated. I'm also pretty sure the pay is infinitely better.
>>
>>34868137
This. PMC work is just pussy shit for pussies. If you want to shoot shit, go be a pawn in one of the USA's jew wars, you will be just as cucked as being a member of a PMC.
>>
PMC>Military
>can likely use any weapon as long as you bring it and the ammo yourself
>huge choice of employers
>you can say "no" if you there's something you don't want to do

that's for being a mallcop
>>
>>34867516
this guy get it . there no real solid companies only connection that laughable , the only way you get a job is if they really need a guy and your dirt cheap

if you imagine this to be a glory super operators job forget it , mall ninjas get more action
>>
>>34867583
I thought the pmc market was dried up?
>>
>>34870648
Dried up to the level it was in the late 90s.
>>
the labor pool is flooded with vets from the iraq and afghan wars.

shit varies wildly. a lot of times food is what ever you brought with you.

Wait for some shit to start in Africa once China develops the countries and you might find more jobs opening up.

I'm still waiting for /k/ to make their own MSF. The first few jobs would suck, but once you've established yourselves things would get better.

Either that or they are talking about govt. accountability, in which case its more of a "hippity hoppity get off my property" kinda issue since its in international waters
>>
>>34867881

I work on the civilian side running the ships that man up with armed fuck boys when we move through dangerous areas. IMO rules stipulate that no more than 14 hours of work can be performed in 24 hours. And of those 10 hours of rest provided, one period has to be atleast 6 hours uninterrupted.

Are the numbers fudged all the time and do we get paid days off when we get into port to make up for it? All the time. 20 hour work days happen once a few weeks or so.

Still, good guys, and yes, they are very bored and most end up just using drugs they can pick up from the shitholes we stop at just to pass the time quicker.
