/k/ I recently watched Trigun and fell in love with all the over-the-top and sometimes ridiculous guns that everyone uses.

I especially liked Ruth's rifle. For those who haven't seen the show, it's a double-barreled rotating-barrel magazine-fed lever-action rifle. Each barrel is fed by it's own magazine, making the gun look like a cross.

I was wondering: Is such a gun even mechanically possible?

Is it possible to have a lever-action work with two separate feeds while also rotating the two barrels?

Webm in the next post.

Here's a drawing of it from the Trigun artbook.

The best I could come up with was this:
>Lever-action only rotates the barrels. it has nothing to do with cycling the rifle
>The two barrels are basically just two seperate semi-auto rifles welded together

So hypothetically you could just fire one 'barrel' repeatedly without the rotating part, but to use the gun in the cool way oyu would work the lever action, which just rotates the barrels.

It might work if the lever action rotates the action like a revolver but then you'd have to figure out a mechanism to strip the cartridges from their magazines. It's hilariously impractical but would be pretty cool to see irl.
>>
>>34864611
That's why I think the easier route would be like in the post above, just having the lever-action rotate the barrels.

Everything else would be pretty simple right? It would just be two semi-autos working off one bolt. Then again I don't know a whole lot about gunsmithing but logically it makes sense.
>>
>>34864556
I could easily see an action being made to alternate firing. Having it flip over is pure nonsense.

>have to carefully manuver through doors
>extra mag and barrel gets stuck on shit
I'm guessing it shoots .45, what with the large bore and short rounds and all.
>>
>>34864671
this is almost definitely only done for the cross iconography

japan is really big on putting nonsensical christian references in everything, kinda like how here in the west everything is named after a greco or roman legendary beast or god
>>
>>34864714
That other fags gun was literally a giant cross he hauled around.
>>
>>34864711
Yeah I was thinking either .45 or .357 magnum.
>>
>>34864711
Yeah rotating the wrist is really hard. It's super guy but that's a minor problem compared to how ridiculous it is in the first place.

>>34864714
Nonsense
>>
>>34865187

Didn't that also have a rocket launcher inside the cross?
>>
>>34865227
Bottom part is a machine gun, top is a rocket launcher, and the arms hold multiple pistols.
>>
>>34865227
Yes, it also had storage for about a dozen handguns.
>>
>>34865238
wasnt one arm full of pistols and the other the magazine
>>
>>34864714
To be fair Trigun was basically a western, and plenty of westerns do go pretty heavy on the christian themes, so it's somewhat justified in it.
>>
>>34865238

That's actually a dif cross. Punisher just had dual machine guns and a rocket launcher, the horizontal part of the cross arms held the ammo for the MGs.

Either way, Nicholas was a beast, just due to being able to hold and shoot Punisher with one hand.
>>
>>34865296
In the far future of the Wild West, there is only hernias.

Nicholas, Vash, and Millie were the only people who didn't have a problem lifting it.

OP here.

Is it worth it to learn gunsmithing in order to replicate functional Trigun weapons
>>
>>34865698

That would depend on how bad you want to have a functional Trigun weapon

I'm banking on probably not.
>>
>>34865712
ruth's rifle doesn't seem too hard if you cheat with the mechanics.
>>
>>34864743
wolfwoods cross would be easy to make, maybe except for the spinning trigger, although it would weigh 1000000000 lbs
>>
>>34865698
Vash's revolver is just a top-break with a 6 o'clock barrel. I'm not exactly sure how you'd create a functional replica of the Punisher cross. The biggest issue in replicating Meryl's loadout is paying for the 50 derringers she carries. Millie's stun gun is a pepperbox rifle that fires footlong bullets that open into an X-shape with a soft lining.
>>
>>34865790
And ruth's gun?

Like I said if the lever action only rotates the barrels it seems simple. each 'barrel' would be semi-auto that shares one bolt.

it's cheating, but i don't think it's possible to make the rifle exactly how it functions in the show without a team of harvard engineers designing it.

I think you'd be looking at something like a two barrel Gatling gun. From the webm it looks like it'd eject and rotate on the downstroke and chamber on the upstroke of the lever.

Imagine the finger strength needed to rack the slide of a .45 with the Einhand method of charging.
>>
>>34867558
Couldnt you just rack the slide normally? Its get serrations right there.
>>
>>34867801
yes as well as you can turn a car's steering wheel with your elbows. Doable but not the first intended use, pointless question
>>
>>34867946
Maybe im missing something then, it looks like it cocks normally but also your able to pull back the front of the trigger guard to cock it. Why would one way be more difficult than the next.
>>
>>34867406
Not in the config
>>
>>34868009
A larger set of muscles is used when pulling the slide vs cocking using only your finger.

I just recently watched it for the first time and I thought it was pretty great. Although I kinda felt like the final battle between Vash and Knives was a bit disappointing. I'm thinking about seeing the movie next, is it just as good as the anime?

It's nothing spectacular, just feels like an extended middle of the road episode, that being said if you liked Trigun you'll like the movie.

Also, Amelia is best waifu
