Not a folder is my only piece of advise. You wouldn't carry a gun without a round in the chamber, so don't carry a broken knife.

Smallish = Spyderco Delica 4 FFG
Largish = Spyderco Endura 4 FFG (too big for lots of areas)

I've used pretty much all of them, and they're overall the best for what you get.
