So, let's go back 77 years ago. The US used a great many things to cut and slice, as other nations, but had troubles making the final choice. So I propose we post all kind of knifey/swordey/machetey stuff for our general education (other nations too but if it's not OD it's just not the same)
Also; what was the biggest blade used by WW2 U.S? Very hard to find details on such "minor" pieces of equipment as machete and officer sword. Help, /k/
I am disappointed, /k/

Many people on /k/ are from the US and it's late night/early morning, not really prime posting hours.

Probably pic related. AFAIK officer's swords are purely decorative.
Wow! Activity. Thanks people, I thought the thread died.
Also, >>34859620
Knew about the "not made to actually fight' but decorative? A world is crumbling.

Ever see the cattaraugus knives? They were pretty nice utility type blades.
Useful both in knife fighting and in performing everyday duties - NR-40.

Is that even practical, or just for show?

People used them.
Knife made from tip of Patton saber
Chindit knife
>>34859432
I have the same knife from my grandpa, but the sheath is polymer/plastic. Does that make sense for an early 50s to late 50s flight mechanic or did he get it after he served? I never did find out.
Enguneer's puukko. USSR.
Looks pretty strange.

The original bayonet issued with the M1 Garand was 16" long. They cut it down later in the war.
>>34869956
Is this one? Got it from Danish army. They used to get used USA 2ww gear in the 60ties.
Is it a real 2ww, or Something made Later?
>>34870207
No that looks like an M5.
>>34862841
