Is the AK-47 even worth owning outside of being a collector's item? From everything I've heard it's not that accurate and isn't really any better than an AR15 outside of reliability in shitty conditions and a larger calibur bullet.

It would be cool to have one, but if someone was getting their first three guns, should it be one of them?
>>
>>34854332
This is probably bait, but I'll bite.

The AK-47 is shit, relative to other AKs and the magic jew gun known as the Galil.

The AR-15 can chamber 7.62x39 if you get the right barrel and receiver for it. AR-15 is somewhat more reliable if well-oiled and using a dust cover.

The thing is, AKs are so common it's kind of hard for it to be a collectors item unless you got one that's from 1947.
>>
>>34854363
I don't mean a "collectors item" in the sense of it being rare, but just being able to say you have an AK-47 IN your collection.
>>
itll hit a person up to 400 yards and beyond if your good and the gun aint shit, its more effective against light cover for the most part too. ammo is cheaper, looks cooler, not as reliable as the memes say but still really good, if you live in a city or dense forest its great. just get both if you can, if youre only gonna buy 1 rifle for the rest of your life get an ar though
>>
>>34854394
pattern collecting is fucking stupid

This is the truth: AKs, FALs, G3s, etc. are all from mishap parts bins. Since the Jew-SA does allow actual assembled rifles to be import. Instead they become butchered chimeras. With the AR however, there are more sourced parts and quality will be much better at fairer prices.

Why do you people love ar so much?
That shit ice picks more than it will ever fragment. Its just a big ass 22

Sure, they are very nicely engineered with spectacular customization, but you will never get the same power and reliability that aks have.
>>
>>34854332
XM8 conversion are far better than either, both for MRBS and aesthetics
>>
>>34854332
I own an AK literally just to have one. I like shooting it, it's not as accurate as my ar's which are pretty close in accuracy to my bolt guns.
It's cool, they work, it's cheap to feed, and I like it.

can some anon tell me what the long black tube under the barrel of the AK in the pic is? Is it a helical magazine? I got this pic from an article about North Korean troops in a German newspaper, but we all know how gun-knowledgeable the average journalist is.

wtf are you doing? You're not supposed to tell them that this is a thing. Anyone questioning "what gun do we convert" must now be answered with idk. God forbid the prices go up more.
>>
>>34854332
The only reason AK-47's are so popular and common is because 1, they are cheaper then dirt, easy to make, and reliable. These things go hand in hand when you are living in a shit box countrys like Syira. Other then that, it is not a great rifle.

I have to ask, are you the same faggot that uses the word "ice picking" every time I see it on /k/? There can't be more than one person this fucking dumb.

>>34854332
Just get a 74, about as cheap to feed as a 47, recoil is pretty much AR level, and those faster 5.45 rounds are pretty fun with steel plates.

Fuckin lol ok.
The 556 platform depends on fragmentation and yaw for its damage. Too bad that shit does NOT RELIABLY fragment or yaw with every shot. If It did, it would be a much better round.

key word here "reliably"

Yes it is a round designed to maim and not kill people. It still would suck really hard to get shot with, and yes it can and will kill things.
I've killed 200 pound deer and pigs with clean shots.
Quit being a nimby.
>>
>>34854332
AK market is shit right now. The only current AKs being imported are WASRs and NPAPs.

The rest is comprised of used imports/pre-bans, U.S. made guns, and kit builds.
>>
>>34857070
If you want an ak, now is probably the last opportunity we have to find a good one.

Fuck c39s IO NPAPS, ZASTAVAS, And anything modern century.
>>
>>34854332
Outside of a collector, is there any reason to own a 300blk ar?
>>
>>34857070
>tfw really want an AK
>complete shut down on all Russian AKs for foreseeable future
>Arsenal imports are now drying up
>Only options are U.S. made with shit barrels and cast trunnions and kit builds that aren't consistent in quality
>now you have to pay +$1000 for a used Arsenal, OPAP, MAK 90 or anything else good

What terrible alternate reality have we stumbled into?
>>
>>34857184
WASRs and NPAPs are a thing u know?
>>
>>34857193
NPAPs are neutered M70s that have the AKM trunnion, the whole point of buying a Yugo AK was for the RPK trunnion.

WASRs have cheap furniture and they don't even have the courtesy to add mag well dimples.
>>
5.56 is better then 7.62x39 because it fragments an 7.62x39 ice picks.

You're going to be looking at AKMs and other derivatives if you want to spend less than a gorillion dollars.
>>

It's not like they all got melted down. You can still find factory built import aks retard, even if the faucet is turned off for a few months / years
>>
>>34856686
Cheap to feed for now. Besides, the 74's gonna run out of steel core while the AR still has M855

An AK is far superior choice than an AR.
A good shooter with properly zeroed sights should have no problems hitting man-sized targets at 300 meters with a 7.62x39 AK rifle.

>>34857070

I've heard Gen2 PSA all are 500-600 and supposedly fairly reliable well built guns. Can anyone confirm?

I want to build an AK using worn wood furniture with the exception of an MI m-lok forgrip to put a light on and maybe a small red dot after seeing a sand person with one and thinking it was sexy as fuck. Are people going to think it's tacky? I'm probably going to do it anyway but I'm curious, it seems practical but at the same time aesthetic

How does this make an AK 'far superior'. This also applies to the AR15

It all depends on what purpose youre intending to use it for. AK is the best choice for a SHTF type scenario, and AR is best for distance.

7.62x39 does way more damage than 5.56. Its the same debate as 9mm vs higher calibers, 9mm performs like shit IRL, look into the data for yourself if you have half a brain.

Okay how about not a fucking bait reply. Look I like AKs, but they aren't for everyone. It's really a niche thing, and in full honesty its kind of hard to justify buying an AK for 650-1000$ when you can buy any level of stock AR for 400 dollars practically.

But I wouldn't say AKs are inaccurate, in fact I've only ever known Inter Ordnance. But that's because of their drifting irons.

I have found that my WASR and RAS are extremely reliable, but my buddy's M&P sport 2 is damn reliable too.

So really you're paying more to be cool, have an interesting rifle that most other gun owners don't have.
>>
>>34854332
>not that accurate
when will this meme die? do you learn everything you know about guns from video games?
>>
>>34857205
just buy a romanian furniture set for the WASR and fit it
but i do wish they had mag dimples, but i guess they have their reasons
>>
7.62 is my choice because of the greater penetration. That's really it. The AK is my choice because it's designed to feed and extract steel cased ammo, I only have to clean it every 2000 rounds, I HATE the AR's charging handle, and I believe my VEPR has a higher round count potential than most any AR
>>
>>34858278

>>
>this entire thread
so basically, ak enthusiasts are fucking retards too poor to buy something in a nato caliber
gotcha
>>
>>34859866
I mean, you can go full hipster and get one in 5.56 easily
>>
>>34858991
Actually it goes doubly so for an ar15. You can get 5.56 farther accurately than 7.62x39. it's not like the Russians immediately dropped it for 5.45 because they thought it was too good

To be fair, alot of people wouldn't consider 2.5 moa to be "that accurate"
>>
>>34860931
Accurate enough to kill fascists at 100m which is all that matters for an assault rifle.
>>
>>34860942
Whatever man. That's clearly not the case in alot of recent conflicts. And given modern standards 2.5 is unexcusable for a rifle that can cost so much
