If you’re looking for a reliable gun with a lot of stopping power, nothing beats the .45 ACP.
.356TSW was better.

I came here to bitch about people responding to this thread but damn, your post made me chuckle.
Also sage

If you mean the 1911, then I absolutely agree. People who say that gun is bad because it's old are as bad as people who say it's good because it's old. The age of a design has no bearing on it's quality.
>>34849593
.357 mag and .357 sig is better at both.
.40 S&W and 10mm are both better at one of those.
.45 is a mediocre round.
>>34851110
Depending on what 1911, but for ccw there is nothing wrong with a good 1911
>>34849785
Don't forget that it's a single shot.
>>34849593
9mm and fuddy-five have similar muzzle energies and wound channels. fuddy-five is for larpers and morons
>>34849593
How do you survive being shot at with a .45?
You get behind a windshield.
>>34849785
you're a regular wacky funster, aren't you!
>>34849593
Handguns are shit
>>34851182
arent the grips too long? unless you get one of the babby ones
>>34849593
fuddy-five AARP
>>34854142
No. I've carried a 1911. It's a perfectly suitable pistol.
>>34854208
>AARP
9mm is even older.
>>34854236
>9mm is even older.
I was referring to the average age of the people using weapons chambered in that round, not the age of the cartridge standard :)
>>34851261
true, but it is reloadable
>>34849593
.45 Winchester Magnum is better
>>34854236
I'm thinking about getting one for CC, plus I do a lot of hiking. How well would .45 ACP perform against bears/ forest dwelling tweakers?
>>34854533
go full on 10mm if you want a woods handgun.
get a 1911, they said
it's stylish and reliable, they said
last true fighting gun, they said
now I need something that eats JHP+p for my duty rig.
>>34854533
I carry a Glock 36 but wouldn't trust it against bear. Bring a 45-70 or a slug gun in bear country. It will bring down tweakers just fine though.

Quite close to 9x21mm IMI but intended for the IPSC. It never caught on, much like 9mm Major. I need to update this photo as I've got a few more 9mm flavors now.
All I want is a 10mm 1911 that could function well
>>34855549
One that's missing from that photo - 9x22mm Major. .357 SIG was nearly identical and 9mm Major was never able to overtake it. It was another one marketed to IPSC shooters.
>>34855549
>no 9x39 vss
>>34855606
Not a pistol cartridge, so not included in this list. I have several other 9mm rifle cartridges such as 9x56mm Mannlicher-Shoenauer, 9x57mm Mauser and 9.3x64mm Brenneke.
