Calicuck here. Just got my first lower (80% blank in .308), going to mill it out in a buddy's machine in the next month or so. Pretty excited.

Seeing as how I need to engrave a serial number on it by 2019 thanks to wonderful California gun laws, are there any goofy serial numbers I can slap on this thing? It makes sense. If you buy a rifle at a gun store it is classified as a long-arm, which changes who can and can't buy it, whereas a stripper lower is not considered a long-arm so there's no record of it specifically being a rifle before.

oh, i forgot one more arbitrary law: if youre pisotl is over 26" in length (from the end of the muzzle to the end of the receiver extension (not including the muzzle device unless its pinned and welded)), it is no longer a pistol but a "firearm". the difference being a firearm can have a vertical foregrip, while a pistol cannot, atleast not without a AOW stamp.
