I've seen a guy try to trade his 9 year old family dog for guns. I mean, it's one thing to sell puppies, or trade puppies for guns, whatever way you're going to get value for them. But what the fuck is going through a person's mind when he looks at a dog near the end of its lifespan and things "I could convert this asset to an AR-15"?
>>

>>34847030
I've found that people shopping for AR's (outside of a panic buying frenzy) generally know what they're looking at. I can tell from a glance that what you have in that picture is a basic bitch mil-spec M4 carbine build, and the logo on the buttstock tells me that it's probably all Palmetto parts except for the pistol grip. The dull gray parkerized finish on the barrel suggests that it's not the Freedom barrel, and if you were to post the stamps on the barrel, I'd know exactly what I was looking at, whether it was chrome lined or unlined. You might be able to get $600 for it from the right buyer, but probably not going to fetch anywhere above $500, since you can buy them new for that amount, at least as a rifle kit and stripped lower.

The intact chrysanthemum more than likely means it was imported after the war. Most, if not all of the GI bring backs had the chrysanthemum ground off. The current stock with the intact chrysanthemum comes from a stockpile that was found in Korea sometime after that war. Of course this is all according to a military museum curator so who knows, he might have been bullshitting me.

>>
>>34848096
"People shopping for *used AR's," is what I meant. Obviously, there is a learning curve to just figuring out how to use a website like Armslist, and casual gun owners aren't going to get involved with a used sale when a gun store salesman can guide them through the purchase for just a few hundred dollars more.

But I live in Utah. Trading guns, I've met people who have hundreds of stripped lowers in their gun safes.

I'm not autistic, but jeeze- I really hate bad English.

It's uncanny- I likely live in a bubble, because I do NOT manage to interact with or find people on a daily basis that are as fu&%ing stupid as the folks that you CONSISTENTLY find on Armslist. Armslist is like a bat signal for retards. I swear- it is dang near worse than Craigslist.

The intact chrysanthemum almost certainly means that the rifle was a battle field pick up as the vast majority of the arisakas in Japanese inventory had the mums ground off during the surrender-postwar disarmament period. Also the only concrete examples I can find of Arisakas being imported into the US commercially were Chinese imports from the 1980's however many of these rifles had ground mum's in addition to being import marked. As for Korean arisakas its plausible that some may have come back post war however the vast majority of arisakas in Korea were reissued to Korean forces and I find it doubtful that the south korean government would have sold these desperately needed arms before the GCA of 1968. The only arisakas I know of with clear Korean provenance (baring of course rifles produced in Korean arsenals) were the >130000 rifles converted by the US to 30-06 for the Korean military however it is not know if these were ever imported as they are a very rare bird to find in the us.

tl;dr very few arisakas were ever commercially imported into the US and your friend was bullshitting you
