That is a stupid fucking gun but it's all kinds of fun to shoot. Good inherent accuracy, low recoil, and unlike an AR-15 it doesn't clog up the receiver with gas and unburnt powder since all of that is blown directly off the bolt carrier and into the shooter's face.

It's a pseudo-para setup using an ACE adapter and folding stock, but it has the proper bolt carrier and spring. The barrel is cut to 18" but the sling swivel groove is right up against the front sight.

The receiver is a Gear Imbel. Could more pictures after this one.

Go for the imbel. Coonan has had some issues with being out of spec lately and they try to blame the parts rather than the reciever.
Imbel barrels are also pretty nice and are relatively cheap. I'd post the barrel guide I have saved but I'm not at my computer now.

It's a Dan Wesson 15-2, they're a pretty neat design. The FH is a modified AR15 birdcage, was a small run by EWK Arms in 2011. Been tempted to ask him to make more since it works so well at night but the cylinder gap flash kind of negates it.

It's funny how you think DSA barrels are the cheapest at $100 when you can get various milsurp chrome-lined barrels here for about the same or even cheaper. Now you're getting a better barrel for a better price.

>>34846459
Build one, or find someone's kit build and be ready to check shit on it.
Headspacing, general fit, etc.
Like M14s, anything civilian usually needs to be taken with a hefty grain of salt and some suspicion.
>>
>>34846736
Is the non-voyager DSA worth it compared to a build? It seems like after getting all the parts and tools you would be at about the same price-range as the DSA. Plus it doesn't risk me fucking it up somehow.
>>
>>34838434
Zaitzev used a svt40 with a scope.
>>
>>34846970
DSA FALs aren't terrible but they aren't good either. They have a much higher risk of problems than you should have in a $1k+ rifle. With a kit build you pay around the same price for a rifle built from much better, in-spec parts. The building itself really isn't that difficult but if you don't feel up to it, then buying a rifle built from a kit is a good alternative.

No ones arguing about the pic you posted regarding barrels but gunplumbers list you linked starts with a a paragraph long disclaimer of how or why these barrels are fucked up and they're all in the neighborhood of $100. Chrome lined who gives a fuck about chrome lined you fucks bitch enough about accuracy to know non chrome lined is more accurate and nowadays can you even find corrosive 7.62x51? Not like you have the money to shoot through the barrels rifling anyways. Virgin barrels are a nicety towards your builder and yourself if you want something better than an I go out and shoot this gun at notjing in particular at a distance fuck yeah rifle. Kek these are battle rifles, not MOA guns. I can guarantee the chrome lining isn't going to make a noticeable impact on your accuracy on an FAL. If you actually read the page I linked, you'll see that he fixed the issues and the barrels are still useable. They may not be perfect but the barrels with light pitting will still be better than DSA. Check out gunplumber's barrel guide I posted in:
>>34845672 he even says that he's never noticed a difference in accuracy between DSA barrels and an Imbel. Check the first link I posted. He's selling Imbel barrel groups individually too, not just kits, which you can also find on gunbroker.
>>
>>34847637

DSA isn't really that different in price than the other barrels. Source on $100 barrels? I haven't been able to find them.

Ok, my dad just bought a .308 S716 and it's in my name. It's pretty nice. He essentially bought it for me. We're going on a trip with him and my brothers, hunting for boar. We are going to a refuge where they have them. We'll be on foot, no blinds, no dogs, etc.

The thing is I do not know what type of scope I need for it. Do I need magnification? I tried calling the guy but I didn't get an answer. If I have a non-magnified scope on a .308 is that retarded?

I have a nice meprolight that I use on my Tavor. I am bringing the Tavor tho too..

What the hell should I get? I'm looking for something in that 500ish range but I can go higher.

I am not a hunter, I only go to ranges. I am also the one that has to shoot the thing, which is fine, I eat meat, might as well do the dirty work once in awhile.

Even saying this means you and your friend have no idea how to fabricate.

Its literally two blocks of metal with holes drilled in it.

Here's a tip, measure your barrel and then decrease that number a little so when you drill the clamping channel it can actually grip your work piece. Then decide the centerpoints for the screw holes and drill one side of the block for clearance and drill the other side nominal so it can be tapped.

3d models wont do shit for you. Learn to make fucking blueprints you plebs

For the various parts and special tools you'd need, you could have a really solid Imbel build for about $1200 give or take some with shipping and possibly needing a different locking shoulder and some headspacing/pin gauges. You'd also need a vice and a torque wrench.

If you wanted to save a couple hundred, you could go with a Coonan receiver instead of Imbel: http://www.coonaninc.com/product-category/falreceivers/

The Coonans have dropped in QC a bit though so you run more risk of having issues.
>>
>>34852033
How are the Century receivers?
>>
>>34852134
Depends. The ones made in Brazil and Argentina are usually OK. Century's US made ones are generally considered to be bad. Like with all Century made/built products it's kind of a coin toss. Could get something perfectly fine, could get a hunk of trash. See: >>34840699 for the different markings.

I have identical 4x scopes on my aks now. I should update the pic.
I've used scopes with 4x, 6x, and 8x magnification, and prefer 4x the most. It's plenty of magnification and gives you a very wide field of view. You never really lose sight of your target while firing.
200-300 is still easily within iron sights territory IMO and my eyes aren't even that good. 200 yards isn't far, and 300 is where I start to find optics handy but I've taken it out to 400 with 762x39 and irons with pretty good results so long as the targets stand out from the background.

You're an idiot, you're repeating a lot of what I said. They're still almost $100 for surplus beat up compared to other surplus not good enough to be sold with a good rated parts kit. There's a reason they're over $150 cheaper than any other barrel. When gunplumber was talking about barrels he wasn't talking about this pitted fucked up lot. He didn't do testing on this lot, he looked at them said they're fucked up I can't sell these as part of a kit. Stop being stupid no matter what brand you fanboy what caliber you shoot or what and how you shoot every gun owner can agree that rust and pitting is bad for their guns they don't want it and they definitely don't want it on their barrel. It doesn't matter what brand something is how it was made to what spec if it's been let go to shit and I was wrong actually >>34849155 I must have mis remembered but dsa barrels aren't ~$100 if they were it was probably at the beginning of the year or around that far back. Everything is more expensive and will continue to get more expensive just like gunplumbers parts kits. Remember what they used to cost vs what they cost now? First guy used him as an authority which okay maybe he is but when he's selling shit at the going rate raising prices with the market then it stands to reason he's selling those barrels cheap for a reason ie: they're shit. He doesn't have a rep for being a nice guy or giving out deals and discounts, he's a businessman.

I'm not saying rust/pitting is a good thing. I'm just saying that minor pitting in milsurp barrels is not unusual and can be just fine if you don't treat it like shit. I wouldn't buy the heavily pitted barrels, but the ones that only have minor pitting, time correctly, and have fine or fixed flats I would have no issue with using. I'm tempted to buy one of the 17.3" barrels for a future 50.63 build.

So in a way, you're right. Some of those barrels are likely trash, others, from his description, sound fine and would be perfectly adequate in builds. He even gives advice for builds using the fixed flat barrels. Just because they're not up to his standard to include in a $500 parts kit doesn't mean they're unusable. He may not be the nicest guy, but he takes pride in what he does.

You're definitely right though, prices are going up and that's damn unfortunate. Have you done any FAL builds? Not trolling, just wanted to see other people work here.

What is a good price for a pre 89 ban FAL made by FN in Belgium?

Find out man, its only $500. Also it's an ar 10 if you find it inadequate you can change the fucking barrel with hand tools. Keep in mind ptr and fal rifles are around 3moa so i can't see the ar10 doing any worse.
>>
>>34873727
Dude FN, made in belgium? That's about as top of the line as you can get. Springfield branded imbels go for 2k chew on that for a second. You found a hens tooth.

Anyone know a place to get an original Para FAL stock, this one I picked up has a para hinge but the stock is from an SA Galil and I'm not a fan, DSA sells them for 169 but I would prefer an original one.

Pic not related because I don't have pics of it yet.

i hate this technique, but it's a weasel's market, so i always remember "if you offer isn't insulting, it isn't low enough." tell him you've got around 600 in cash on you. fucking lay it out. let him see those bills. especially if it's a bunch of 20s and 50s. he doesn't need that ptr.

SCAR 16s only went on sale to civs in late 2009
SCAR 17s in 2010

Before that it was military only and still in testing.

Could you get me a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range on your next time travel?

Is it easy to accidentally decock while sweeping the safety off?

There's a decent amount of resistance so I'd say no unless you're sweeping all the way down with a lot of force

If I were to start buying FAL parts, Which should I start with? I don't have a preference mainly due to ignorance. I understand FALs aren't the most accurate rifle but I don't mind. I just want a reliable and durable rifle. I plan to buy parts here and there so any guides on what to stay away from and what's good? I don't mind spending a little extra here and there for shit that won't warp or explode in my face
