Pic related, minimal, super light, low profile, pretty bright in the dark.

Don't need to switch out when wearing casual or formal. No NATO straps, no useless chronometers, no disgusting complex dials.

Swiss made, not jap or chink.

It's stock photo you dweebs. I just bought this Swatch watch on a holiday, I am very surprised by it's utility, has day, date, second hands, lightweight.

How weak are you? The only downside to G-Shocks are the use of batteries. But I suspect your Swatch is battery operated as well.

The only real military watches are rolexes, period.

when you actually want to get shit done, you don't want to be relying on a cheap quartz jap shit digital watch.

From the peruvian air force to the marina nationale and the octopus italian divers, rolexes are always the best choice.

You could get a pre-ceramic 14060m no date sub if you actually needed to get some work done on the field.

if all you need is the reliability and the looks for your desk diving missions, a 6 digit 36mm 114270 explorer 1 will do perfectly.

any route you decide, just remember that nothings is gayer (and as unreliable) as cheap swatches or digital watches.

doesn't mean omega seamasters, doxa subs and tag aquaracers aren't enough for most jobs, but if you want the absolute best, go safe, go rolex.

rolexes matter.

what do he have nowadays?

the brits get pulsar, the americans get marathon, some don't get anything.

sorry, but i won't recommend digital shitters because they are cheaper.

>>34836926

it actually is, when you get to understand what goes into these movements, you'll realize that cheapest isn't always best.

>>34836951

nothing to do with brand name, i know what's inside an oyster case, and the "jewelry that tells time." argument is always used by people who wear 10 dollar quartz shitters.

they can sustain incredible amounts of forces and shocks, and they don't get easily magnetized anymore, that's called improvement (or parachrom hairspring), get with the times, anon.

wanna hear something? i have never seen a quartz 3 hander go 10 years without needing new batteries, but i have seen several 20+ year old rolexes keeping accurate time.

also haven't seen a single g-shock that was left somewhere for some 10+ years and didn't need a new strap, but that's not a problem for rolexes.

those are actual facts.
>>
>>34837021

>>
>>34837053
My 35 year old seiko digital keeps accurate time. My 35+ year old digital radios keep accurate time.

mechanical watches are less accurate than crystal watches by their very nature. the most accurate "mechanical" watches are actually a quartz/mechanical hybrid where the quartz keeps the time and the mechanical parts are there to look pretty and get people to fork over money
>>
>>34837021
Because it's cheap, it keep times well, easily available, has timer and stop watch functions. They used them in improvised bombs.

Bin laden wore one. Obama wore one. Schumacher stuck one on his formula one steering wheel. The thing has real pedigree, unlike a lot of higher end watches which just homages to this or that.
>>
>>34837075

Yes!
who would know?

there's actually not much (at all) to go wrong with a date-only, properly serviced new movement.

they really are well made, to the point where people compare them to much more expensive movements.

as long as the crown is screwed down tightly, nothing is getting into the case, and the magical "perpetual" movements are pretty much perpetual unless you put them on your desk.

i know that on theory quartz is better, and they actually are quite simple if you don't need to rely on them, but if i had to choose between a highly complicated quartz digital watch or a time-only, robust automatic movement, i would get the latter.
>>
>>34837208
>highly complicated quartz digital watch
wdhmbt?
>>
>>34837104

i don't know about radios, or about your particular digital seiko, but they probably do.

but i'm pretty sure you had them serviced a couple dozen of times, and i'm also sure they wouldn't withstand combat scenarios.

about the protrek.... yes, probably does, my 1974 rolex has had it's bracelet since... 1974, and it's just as good as new.
Had a 1960's yellow gold calatrava with it's original leather strap, it wasn't that pretty, but it worked.

>>34837118

sure, never leave home unarmed anyways.

>>34837128

that's not how mecaquartz works, anon.

Funny thing is I had a mecaquartz heuer titanium, and they were actually more expensive than manual wind/automatic at the time (wich makes no sense).

If it was only for the money, they would have made them with some generic decorated movements and charged the same amount or more, it would have sold way better no doubt about it.
>>
>>34837313

i had a few digital watches since i got into watches,

Next to my current ones wich are a vintage casio dw-200 marlin and non-working speedmaster (how reliable!), the best one was probably a suunto m1- wich although isn't suunto's "best" watch, is still very complicated.

I come from a family of watchmakers, (one of grandfather's passions), so I know the diference between low-beat and high-beat, i know how to demagnetize a watch, i know what beat error and amplitude are, and i could probably service some seikos quite well, but i couldn't do a thing with a quartz watch, specially a digital one that features 20 different functions.

since i took my speedmaster to some watchmakers that service vacherons and pateks daily and they couldn't figure it out, i would say they are quite a bit complicated (in the sense that they are a fucking pain in the ass to service).
>>
>>34837502
fair enough. would you concur most digital watches are more accurate than most mechanicals? i have a casio protrek that i bought because it's solar and syncs up daily with the atomic clocks, so i don't have to worry about batteries or inaccuracies
>>
>>34837208
What's up, retardbro? You know a quartz timepiece is actually stupidly simple? The crystal outputs a square wave and a few ICs do frequency division and real time clocking. Mechanical stuff is a Pandora's box with 10000 intricately crafted gears and springs that keep time with trash accuracy.

>Swiss made, not jap or chink.

Gotta be careful with this the Swiss are really dodgy when it comes to defining what counts as Swiss made.

Likewise its rather telling and pathetic that the Swiss had to ban the Japanese from the Chronometer Competitions after they kept on winning
>>
>>34837530
then i guess your area is actually related to electronics.

i don't know much about quartz, and honestly couldn't do shit with them.

I can't honestly see how one would get something as simple and reliable as a 1520 (non-cosc,5513 sub) movement.

it's still as accurate as pretty much any affordable quartz watch of today.

If you want to get a little /o/tistic, we can compare the 2017 vw up! to a 1971 vw beetle.

You would tell me about how simple and reliable the 1 liter turbocharged tsi engine is, and how great the gas mileage is on this boxy-looking thing that comes with all safety itens and a 5-star crash test rating, and i would proceed to show that, in fact, it's a piece of shit plastic car, and the beetle will actually stay working for way longer, it's cheaper to service (you can get the whole car apart by yourself), prettier and funnier to drive, and could probably make the same amount of hp's without much struggle.

that would be the difference between a quartz digital watch and a vw beetle.

The model I have, PRW-2000Y, can only be had in Japan, but there are many new models available in America.

I come from a family of many different professions. I've had a few digital watches that broke, two due to water and one due to age. I fixed all three of them with my hobbyist level understanding of electronics ,~50 dollars worth of tools and 1.60$ in parts. They're very simple if you know a little bit about electronics.

You come off as a luddite who thinks that electrical parts is inversely proportional to reliability. I don't mean that as an insult, but I'm seeing more and more of this kind of thinking.
Quartz watches are incredibly simple. You have a quartz oscillator which creates a square wave at a known frequency, which is then divided by a bunch of gates and then fed into an IC which outputs time. My G757 has a total of 12 components on the PCB if you count the big epoxied IC, plus another five for the screen/mirror assembly and another three for the chassis. It's not complicated.

I have a PRG-270. It's really light for the size, and I only ever removed it when I was lifting bags of cement or other heavy loads where I didn't want my wrist to catch on anything. They're also really cheap.

And the 50 dollars worth of tools is almost entirely tools I already had for years.

You buy automatics for heritage, not time telling ability

100 bucks says you don't even know how to use that watch.

But how will you let people know you are in the costguard/ firefighter / soldier / extreme athlete and pretty much the most exciting person in the room!?!

Your watch has a compass, barometer and tells you what time it is?!?!

You must be the one that killed Osama!

G-Shocks are for the man who has something to prove.

Protreks are for the refined man of culture and taste who's perfectly content with himself.

This. You're getting a knife in the kidneys. You won't see it coming. All you know is that sweet rolex will be gone soon.

Are you actually retarded?
Maybe it would make sense if you used a decent old car, like a 2CV, as an example but the beetle is garbage. It only sold because it was cheap and hippies liked "cute" look.

The beetle was and is a total shit box.
