RN fag here,

why dont the US navy take care of their ships?
all the US ships i have seen look as if nobody on board even does any work.

>inb4 age of ship. paint does wonders you lazy fucks.
>>
that rust is nothing really.

also, you cant exactly paint everything on the hull when your ships are actually out doing things.
>>
>>34829260
>also, you cant exactly paint everything on the hull when your ships are actually out doing things.

>Alex, I'll take the category "Excuses undisciplined troops have used for the slovenliness since Tacitus" for $500.
>>
>>34829260
actually you can. we do it at least once a month or sooner if we see rust patches.

/shipshape/ dude
>>
>>34829260

It's a warhorse not a workhorse. No excuses for laziness.
>>
>>34829238
They do regular long hauls with their ships. Thats what happens when salt, water and metal comes into contact with each other.
>>
>>
>>34829238
>RNfag

Bait.

You can see the same marking with the two RN escorts.
>>
>>34829390
yeah, as do the rest of the world's navies.

the point is we are saying it needs to be maintained better at sea.

The Kutusov is shit but at least they take it out for a few months
>>
>>34829238

All ships, from all navies, get rusty after a certain time.

Refits then clean them. Over time it gradually gets worse.
>>
the rust is protection from laser weapons, it will ablate and become a haze
>>
>>34829238
>Brand new ship vs a ship that's been on multiple deployments
>>
>>34830108
the bongs dont
>>
>>34829238
Clearly someone hasn't done a deployment. The discoloration you see is called running rust. Its basically orange water running off of exposed metal pipes and aircraft elevator rails. When you're 7-11 months into a deployment, you're not about to hang over the side and scrub running rust when you pull into a port. You must be a RN officer since you aren't concerned with functionality, just how they look. Also, anyone who has spent any time on a ship knows you dont just paint over rust you stupid fuck.
>>
>>34829238
the fact is there are more people working on those ships than your shitty ships so dont worry about it

Paint is latex based, or oil based. THey're not using watercolors.
>>
>>34829238

That's how any ship looks after a prolonged time at sea. The reason the British warship looks better is that British warships never do anything or stray far from their home ports. As proven by their complete lack of wear.

hard to paint the sides of the ship while you're actually underway. and it's hard to pull into port when your ship is run on nuclear energy.

>>34830108
>the point is we are saying it needs to be maintained better at sea.

so what you're saying is, this here carrier, that is 10 stories tall, regularly travels in excess of 30 knots, and maneuvers to keep it's flight deck safe, should send sailors over the fucking side of the ship while underway to bust rust and paint?

it's the goddamn ocean, salt water means rust, like huge patches fucking weekly, i rather the ship be in FIGHTING form, vs looking pretty.

also if you painbt over the rust once a month and these are fuck huge rust patches mind you...how do you have THAT MUCH FUCKING PAINT, i would think PAINT would just be extra dead weight not needed on a deployed military vessel.

You're an idiot. The US Navy is the largest Navy in the world, second is the US Airforce. Claiming that they aren't being maintained because they all aren't thrown into a dry dock to get repainted every year is retarded.

>>34834495

Your EMALS are a fucking disaster waiting to happen once it's seeing constant use on active duty. How do you launch aircraft if they're down for whatever reason? Tell me, what technical moving parts on our ramp are prone to break down?
>>
>>34836666
EMALS is actually far less physically complicated than Steam cats. You don't have to deal with a clusterfuck of pipes and pumps and shit. Similar systems used on trains are extremely reliable. It's the software that the fixes are focused on.
>>
>>34829260
fpbp

Let's see how your brand new ship looks like right before her midlife overhaul OP.
>>
>>34834937
France knows about that. It's precisely why their naval doctrine theoretically plans for at least 2 carriers so one can be operational at all times.

Surprise surprise, nuclear carriers are expensive, especially when it's your first time building one. At this point it's more likely that they'll wait until they can build a new pair of CVN to replace CdG once she becomes obsolete.
>>
>>34834937
>>34836953
They were actually supposed to build a second one based on the same design as QE as a joint project with the british, but they pulled out before contruction, probably once they realized the CATOBAR conversion was gonna be a lot more expensive than planned. France really like their CATOBARs.
>>
>>34829238
>RN fag

The US Navy has 430 ships. The Royal Navy has about 77. Our Navy is now readying for another war. Your Navy is drinking tea, buggering each other, and chipping paint when time permits.

With all due respect to your SAS and SBS, A single US Navy Task Force with a full complement of US Marines would blow through your tinpot country like shit through a goose.

Be glad we consider you as "friends."

Also, you fucks would have gotten your asses kicked in the Falklands where it not for our satellite intelligence, fuel depots, and full access to our munition dumps.

Piss off, limey knob.
>>
>>34829433
Rusty from sitting, not rusty from working.
>>
>>34836977
Should have just built another Charles, even if the reactor is fucked.

>>34836953
I've heard they're looking at EMALS for an eventual replacement in the 2040s.
>>
>>34837049
The reactor isn't fucked, just slightly underpowered. Honestly most of the design issues have been pretty much ironed out by now, and they've gotten really valuable expereince with working with CVN thanks to it.
>>
>>34837009

OK, we get it. Your armed forces are the largest and most effective on Earth. But why are you such insecure edgy cunts? Why do you always feel the need to slag off other people's armed forces?
>>
>>34837454
The guy in the OP was basically asking for it tbf.
>>
>>34833901
What's the back one for? I'm guessing a mosque and a cuck shed. The thing that hurts the most is that you can tell it was designed to have CATOBAR and like halfway through they realised they couldn't actually pay for big boy naval power anymore.
>>
Non /k/, non American here

Work in a heavy industrial plant with heavy sulphur and HCl emissions from the smokestacks

Everything rusts within 3 weeks of being fitted

Sometimes rust falls off in thick plates from the machinery

Machinery works just fine regardless.

Rust looks worse than it is, because iron expands like 16 times when it rusts. So 0,01 inch worth of iron looks like the whole thing is going apart. Scratch off rust, and you still have inches worth of steel beneath.

Heavy machinery isn't cars you guys, even a thick coat of rust doesn't mean anything to functionality or strength since only top layer oxidises
