Anyway, I've never heard many complaints about the sights breaking. Assuming they're made of a softer, more flexible polymer than the body itself, this is probably a good thing as they can absorb impact better than harder polymer, which might be prone to cracking.
Admittedly, putting a polymer sight base directly on top of the barrel is a pretty retarded design choice, but given the fact that again, not many people have complained, it looks like kektek correctly guessed the target audience won't be able to afford enough ammo to get the barrel hot enough to cause any problems.
And even if one or two of them will, the time spent clearing stoppages will give the barrel enough time to cool down.

Anyhow, under normal circumstances, you'd pretty much be correct. The issues are more comparative than objective in this case.
It's an easily-misaligned sight starting at the base/mount, that also uses said sight as the lock for the folding feature. Furthermore, without paying for a fancy flippy optic mount, you can't circumvent untrustworthy sights with an optic and still fold it up. Even if you had one, it makes it less stowable, which is one of the biggest selling points - all while at a higher or comparable price point to higher quality guns.
At this point I'd be happy if they made an SU-16C in 9mm.

HK94s haven't been imported for ages, and H&K charges out the ass for all of their new guns, expect to see their new SP5s go for like $3500 because H&K don't know how to make sales.

That said, there's some more reasonable priced clones of decent quality coming out of Turkey and Pakistan these days.
Pic related is one of the Paki MP5k styled pistols, commonly they're available with 'Arm-Braces' as pistols so you can get a pretty decent little 9mm carbine with no special paperwork (as long as you don't muck with the brace or put on a VFG).

16" barrels are because of laws, if there were no NFA laws I think there probably would be extremely few pistol caliber carbines with 16" barrels, maybe the manual repeaters in Magnum revolver cartridges.
