I like 1911's. I don't like .45 ACP; unless you're trying to shoot sub-sonic through a suppressor, it's a bad round to use.

10mm 220 grain with some extra powder behind it is basically .357, and it extracts and loads without issue. It has more than enough capacity in either single or double stack, flatter trajectory than .45, and is common enough to not be stupidly expensive.

That's my only real issue with the 1911. But they make them in other calibers so it's really a non-issue.

Capacity is important. A .45 isn't some magic stop all bullet. You still have to hit key spots. Even if you're attacked by a robber or something you may dump a while mag into them and they still shoot back into you. You think you'll have time or composure to aim and pull off nice squeezes like your range practice? Wrong. You're going to grab your gun, with shaky hands, and frantic urgency during life or death mode in your mind, and squeeze off all you can til they are down. I love 1911s but you think the weapon makes the man. It doesn't.
