Hey Chimps, since I saw your link to the RPK thread, I haven't been able to un-see the gas block issue. Both of the RPKs I currently own have the correct gas blocks because they came with the barrels, but I can't track down anything for my 3rd.

So what are you using for your gas block?

Good question. As of right now I'm SOL. I'm not gonna have it built with the deact gas block though, not unless I send it to somebody who can weld it up and really transform it. Picked up an AWO Yugo M76 in 8mm Mauser. Using it for Pronghorn hunting in a few months. Hard part is finding 8mm ammo with a halfway decent trajectory. Best I've found is the 196gr JSP that will hold flat (barely) to 300y before plumetting.

If you figure out who can do that let us know. In the mean time, I'm probably just going to sit on my parts and shooot the Vepr as is and when I get around to actually having the RPK barrel installed. Worst case scenario, I'll just get the incorrect one and deal with my autism.

Side note, the gas block listed on Russtock is the incorrect Vepr gas block with ring welded to it. If they can come up with the real deal, I'll buy one from them the same day.

Any high temp grease should do. I've heard that white lithium works great, but I just use some dark red, high temp, automotive grease and it works just fine on all my firearms.

I've been using permatex white lithium grease for a few months over breakfree. Honestly the best thing about it is that it stays fucking put in storage. Thinner oils just migrate towards the rear trunnion while in the safe which meant I had to re-apply frequently during the humid summer months whether I was shooting the rifles or not.

Grease is cheap and available at auto parts stores. When it starts getting colder I can just clean it off with a rag and switch to slip2000 ewl.

I just had Meridian install it when they built my gun, so it's from this year most likely. Mike polished the shit out of it too, so that probably helps; its hammer was smoother than my Maadi's hammer when I took it out of the box, and the Maadi has had god-knows-how-many rounds through it from its previous owner.

Agreed. I really don't want to go below 4.5lbs trigger pull on a general purpose gun. I have a Geissele SSA in my AR and while the SSA-E intrigues me, that one extra pound of reduced pull seems more like a negative than a positive to me. If it's anything like the ALG-AKT trigger, I won't like it at all. Might still try one in my next build though.

On a side note, the factory Scorpion Evo trigger is honestly one of the worst factory long gun triggers I've ever felt, if not THE worst. It felt like a 9-10 lb pull, the trigger was made of plastic, and the trigger face was serrated too. My PTR has a similar pull weight but at least the fucking trigger face is smooth.

Last year a pair of hand prints kept appearing on the outside of my guest bedroom window. So I used to own an SLR-106 and deeply regret trading it off, but I know I would enjoy having one again. However, I think I may also prefer shooting a 5.45, which is more expensive, and the certainty of finding ammunition is questionable in the future.
