Since I mentioned wild animals eating our cat's food, here they are. There were three raccoons earlier, but my phone was dead. The wild tom we feed outside is out of frame on the left. How should I get rid of these weirdos.
>>
>>34826409

The 1866-1872 Trapdoors are in .50-70. I'm pretty sure that .50-70 was only ever made in one loading.

My 1873 is PROBABLY not safe to shoot regularly with full power loads, so I bought cowboy loads.

They also made a few thousand 1865 Trapdoors in .58

It's illegal in most states and cities to discharge a firearm in residential areas except in self-defense. Most of the time it's just a fine but it would be stupid to run the risk anyway.

Posted this over in /gg/ aswell. Got myself a problem here. Bought myself a IMA Martini-Henry MkIV about a month ago. The rifle under all that grime is beautiful besides for one problem. The cleaning rod was so pitted and rusted that it snapped in half. After 3 weeks of soaking it will not moving still. Any tips? Also will that crack make it unsafe to fire? It only goes about 4 inches up.

Is modern 8mm safe for a gew 88?
>>
>>34833480
Sort of, yes. If your Gew 88 has a .323 diameter bore then yes, it should be safe. They aren't particularly weak actions to begin with. If you have a .318 bore then use properly sized bullets and again, you will be fine. These statements presume that you are not trying to be a dumbass and get 3200fps or something from a gew88.

Lebels are a hard thing to price. I've seen them go upwards of 1850. Not to mention that grey blanket man shill bids his own stuff very frequently.
>>
>>34833594
There is no such thing as .323 or .318 bore. Those are the diameters of the bullets, not the bore. The land diameter is the same, they only changed the groove diameter slightly when going to the larger bullet.

When retrofitting older guns the Germans just opened up the chamber a little to allow more room for the bullet to swage down safety.
>>
>>34832088
You should try to get a place of your own so that nobody can dictate what you can and can't use your own money on
>>
>>34833660
>When retrofitting older guns the Germans just opened up the chamber a little to allow more room for the bullet to swage down safety.
In theory yes, though records from the time and today indicate this was no done uniformly. Most likely by now any barrels that would have burst have already done so, but in the interest of safety caution is advised.

To be honest it would be pretty mind blowing to see that headline- CRAZED LONER USES MILITARY STYLE MODIFIED MUSKET IN MASS SHOOTING!
How can we convince r9k that this is the best way to do it?
>>
>>34836955

I mean, really, the success of a mass shooting is more due to target selection and tactics than firepower. With proper preparation and the will to see it through you could probably get the high score with a Trapdoor.

IMO the former is ugly as shit and the mk iii is one of the sexiest guns after kar98k, but what qualities make the mk i better? I also don't like peep sights

vz 24 does not want to take stripper clips for some reason. I tried using swedish mauser clips but they don't seem to fit.

I ordered vz 24 stripper clips from liberty tree, hopefully those will fit. Is the thingy that you put the clips in (I suck at terminology) supposed to be this thin? I wanna make sure this thing wasn't bubba'd and somebody just cut that hole there.

Here is it side by side with a swede, as you can see considerably smaller
>>
>>34837520
Your VZ has been flattened so bubba could mount a scope he never used. It will never load via stripper clips, I'm sorry anon
>>
>>34837545
Fug srsly
It must've been the Israelis then, anyone stupid enough to do that would have done a helluva lot more to it

but why?
>>
>>34837582
Same guy that swept rhe bolt back. Probably intended to mount a 1 piece scope mount, and it's easier with the raised portion for the stripper clip guide to be leveled off to do that.

I know you love your new gun and have posted it a lot lately, but it's been bubba'd before you got it, militaries didn't do that to their guns. It's still a cool gun though.
>>
>>34837492

The No. 1 Mk III is better looking, I think I've heard that the No. 4 has better sights.

Get the one you want.
>>
>>34837597
The bolt I'm pretty sure is authentic, look up VZ98N, they are VZ 24s assembled after the war with whatever k98k parts were at hand

Fuck whoever fucked up my other thing though. Are you sure stripper clips won't work?
>>
>>34837612
They sure didn't come with swept back bolts, bent yes, but not swept back like a sporter. And they wouldn't have inconvenienced themselves by grinding away the stripper clip guide, then not mounting a scope.

Only Bubba does those things.
>>
>>34837492
I hated the peep sights too at first. But after some ghost aiming in my bedroom I got way better at lining them up and now like them far more.

But you can't go wrong with either model.
>>
>>34837641
Yeah I looked at it closer and it's swept back, although just barely. Hard to tell. Would it be possible to change the shape without damaging the strength of it if I took it to someone who is competent? Same with the stripper clip slot on the receiver, can it be done?
>>
>>34837654

You bought a bubba Israeli Mauser. It was never a VZ24. It WAS a K98k lookalike with minor cosmetic differences, assembled by Czechs, used by Israelis, then was molested by bubba in the US before you bought it.

That's it. There's a lot about Mausers you need to learn, and you spent like 2 days earlier in the week frantically making threads about how desperate you were for a 7.62 K98k, and you bought the first thing you found/could afford, and you're now paying the cost of buying without researching properly or even taking a close look at the rifle.

The single best way to deal with wild animals in populated areas (at least cats) is to use a live trap.
Take your tame cat in, leave the food out in a live trap with a step trigger, like this one. I know they make them in sizes that'll catch raccon dogs and foxes too, if size is an issue. I don't have any raccoons around here, so I have no idea how big they are compared to a cat.
Once your gulible quarry is trapped (or in the morning after), you just walk out and, depending on how hard a cunt you are, either pop them in the head with an airgun or a .22, or drown it.
Remove the carcass, skin it if you'd like, then clean the trap, bait it again, and repeat until the issue has been resolved.
>>
>>34841191

I believe the die off he refers to is boomers. A similar thing is happening in vintage American cars. As boomers age out or die out their cars flood the market. The classic car market is somewhat stagnant right now and the prices have either stayed where they are or are slowly dropping. It's a slow process but it's happening.

>>34862881
You're gonna need to be a lot more specific. The term Mauser is so broad it's be impossible to give you all the potentially important details.

>>
>>34862988

>>
>>34862988

If you asked for K98s and they said they have Mausers they probably don't have K98s.

That said there's a ton of Mausers that are nearly identical to K98s.
>>
>>34862998
Well, if when I go, they DO have them. What should I look for in terms of potential issues?
>>
>>34863009
Sporterization, matching numbers, being captured. Those are some very big, very broad things.
>>
>>34863009

Make sure it's complete and hasn't been cut down.

If it's a Yugo capture then the Nazi markings will be gone and it's worth a lot less (though it's still the same gun), Russian captures have their marking crossed out IIRC, that makes them worth less as well.

Make sure the numbers match, the Germans numbered EVERYTHING, but the big ones are the bolt body, the receiver, and the stock.

Make sure the bore doesn't suck.

It's mostly the same stuff as any gun.
>>
>>34863202
As much as all the markings and stuff would be nice, I more care about it's ability to function.
>>
>>34863248

Can any Tokarev bros help me out? I bought this M57 described as "parts missing" stupid cheap as a project. As far as I can see the only thing missing is the safety that was added for import. The problem is, the magazine won't lock in unless the slide is back, and then the slide won't drop unless it's removed. With the slide forward, the mag wont seat. With no magazine, the slide, hammer and trigger seem to function fine. Any ideas/ suggestions?

The mags tend to not seat all the way when the slide is forward, and the mag follower keeps the slide from closing on an empty mag. You can do without the safety, I'm pretty sure it won't affect operation

Huh...

Not directly milsurp related but relevant to many of the discussions we've had.
