ITT: We fix the abortion that is the United States Blues uniform

>inb4 hurr durr just disband the AF problem solved XD

This isn't a thread for shitflinging between the branches, it's for legitimate creative discussion over what would be an aesthetic, professional looking military uniform that would be easy to wear and maintain but not look like you work for Delta Airlines or sell milk out of a van.

To sweeten the deal, other branches are free to come in and bitch about their dress uniforms too, and provide decent alternatives.

Reminder that this thread is about dress uniforms, not utility uniforms.

This. Blues are almost exclusively used for punishment purposes. No pride in wearing something you're forced to maintain in case you fuck up. Also our branches are wasting money on this different uniform bullshit, we should all decide on one standard. I say OCPs since they're required when army/usaf deploy.

The parallels you drew are close but not exact. The definitions are:

Blue - Medal of Distinguished Service
"For a courageous deed that is to be distinguished"
Red - Medal of Courage
"For a courageous deed performed in combat duty and with risk of life"
Yellow - Medal of Valor
"For a deed of utmost courage performed in combat in the face of enemy forces"

These definitions preclude certain deeds from recieving certain awards, like a minefield rescue that got Courage because no enemy forces were present.

The law also states that only the ribbons are to be worn except for Independence Day and the Memorial Day right before it.

Look at the requirements for the DSM, DSC, and MoH. Combined with the rankings, I'd say close enough. Even the DSC is basically "heroism not justifying a MoH".

Easy. Disband the Air Force. Get rid of the bureaucrat policies preventing the Army from having fixed wing aircraft. Give the land-based nukes to the Army.

Give all saved money to Navy, USMC, and Army. Problem solved.

Only negative is that the employee candidate pool for DMV employees will grow by 5000%.

Disband them too, they're literally a poorer, useless army force designed for amphibious assaults. Army guys did just fine storming the beaches of Normandy. Make them either an assault division of the Navy or put them in the Army.

Bam, now we have the Army and Navy.
>>
yeah just go back to the 4 button tunic, but in shade 1620 so you don't have to replace the pants and caps.

Also, the Army uniform isn't ugly, it's the historic uniform used by the US Army since the very beginning, just in a more modern cut.

I prefer the ABUs to ACUs.

Anyway, I'd say that the ideal preparation would be giving the military a centralized uniform, then instating regulations and changes to the uniform (shade of accents, shade of uniform, how it is to be worn) is to be based on branch and subtexts, so for example the United States Air Force blouses their boots, and the airborne infantry of other branches do the same.

You want to know why the german WW2 uniform looked so "refined and sharp"? Because they were worn by germans who understood and respected the heritage and traditions that the uniform carried with it.

The problem with the US is that they don't make something which is unique or connected to its history, but instead tries to copy the uniform of another country/culture because "it looks good".

It will never look anything other than forced, like that kid who wore his dads leather jacket to school, obviously several sizes too large but you know, m'lady.

Ditch the Forage cap and bring back peaked caps. Improve the officer "shoulder boards" with something similar to what the army has then it would start looking top tier.

I had a arguement with my roommate during college about this because we're both AFROTC and for some reason he thinks the current AF uniform is the second coming of jesus (mainly because he was JROTC) but everyone else thinks it's trash due to the cover. If you're a pilot or something aviation you can keep the forage hat due to easier to store it when on a no-cover zone.

Marines can't afford such change and it would cause public intoxication and disorderly conduct among junior enlisted, possibly a riot, in excess of average weekend. Think of all the poor sergeant majors, writing NJP's at current rates is already a burden for them and drives them to alcoholism.

As a pog who hasnt touched their asu since ait graduation ~2 years ago i can asure you the jacket is not green, it's 100% black, and camera might not show it but in sunlight the jacket *almost* looks like it has a hint of dark blue

how to fix the shit AF uniforms:
Dress Uniform coat
stand-collared, 4-pocket quarter length, with belt. similiar to the proposed revision but in a lighter navy so it doesn't look like an imperial star wars costume. Add sleeve stripes for officers and service stripes for enlisted.

pants
get rid of woman's skirts and take pants in 1 inch for both sexes, otherwise stay the same

headgear
get rid of stupid banana woman's flight cap and sew up flap in standard flight cap. allow everyone to be wear it in heritage "crushed" style instead of just pilots. require wheel cap for full service dress.

cold weather gear
issue wool singlebreasted topcoat with stand collar to match service coat instead of stupid soviet looking current issue. epaulettes and loops with rank insignia

footwear
explicitly allow polished boots, keep dress shoes, keep reg for combat jobs to blouse dress pants

get rid of princess cut woman's shirts and short sleeve men's dress shirts, keep everything else the same

no.

there need to be 3 basic uniform.s

>dress uniform - used for all those formal occasions. modifactions based on you wearing the coat, sweater, overcoat, or just the shirt.
>combat uniform - used for anything but formal events and PT. add or substitue items as needed to suit environment.
>pt uniform - physical training, medical, sleeping in the field when you can do that sort of thing. for the love of god get rid of the black shirt. just use one of the ACU undershirts.

good luck convincing the marine corps and navy to give up their dozen or so dress variations. dress uniforms also have various levels of formality too that correspond to informal and black/white tie civilian dress codes

this

we had the 4-bellows pocket jacket with a belt as the replacement jacket. just delete the belt and we're good. CSAF T Michael Moseley essentially wore one in retirement... though he got hit with the Minot nuke scandal so it might not be the best to imitate him too closely.

it looked more like the Empire from Star Wars to me.

>>34826193

flight caps only look good when they're crushed and crumpled from being under you g-suit. i lost my flight cap that i had from OTS through my first few months of being a Captain and i miss it every time i put on my non-sweat stained, beat to hell, silver trim scratched off by my flight suit zipper cap.

fighter squadrons are well-stocked with booze. you can only drink when the beer light is on, which is after the last takeoff of the day.

that's because they picked a really dark navy. a lighter color would help quite a bit. The cheap looking belt doesn't help either

>>
>>34846456
pins in epaulets are nonsensical to begin with. the entire point of them is to allow loops or shouldboards
>>
the most asinine thing ever, is no breast pockets on female dress uniform jackets or shirts. so everything has to be lined up and pinned on the bust line of the clothing item as it is worn. making it fucking nearly impossible for females to get dressed alone.

keeps things looking smooth and straight

sleeve stripes are gay. leave that to the navy and the RAF

and without crushed caps for fighter pilots, what will chiefs be angry about? they'll die if they don't have minor uniform issues to bitch at a random Captain about.

i'm sorta with you with the short sleeve dress shirt. in AETC they were going to make us (flight school students waiting to class up/washouts/graduates waiting to go on to our MWS B-course) go to some joint Navy ceremony... with short sleeve blues, ribbons, and ties. gay af. short sleeve blues with anything other than the minimum makes you look like a Mormon missionary.

the Florida gulf coast is hot as balls to be in long sleeve blues for any longer than absolutely necessary though.
>>
>>34846548
boards are very formal though. A few pins will make the loops stay down.

>>34846556
>sleeve stripes are gay.
I disagree, stripes are a distinctly miiltary feature, and without them the sleeves look like a corporate suit. I'd like to see service stripes as well because they immediately denote time in service. The ribbon is fucking stupid.

The short sleeve with or without tie looks like hot garbage. and long sleeves are no hotter than ABUs.

US military could stand to have patches, embroidery, or ribbon on the lapels. like the red ribbons on the brit general.
>>
>>34846619

rank sleeve stripes are gay, and the AF has rank stripes on your upper arm.

at leas you can roll ABU sleeves/remove the blouse assuming your work area doesn't have some rule against it. i haven't worn ABUs in years though.

*officer rank sleeve stripes

that's what's homosexual.

well, rank stripes in the navy are only worn by officers anyway, and they don't have sleeve stripes. even a simple band in silver or silver edged black would look much better imo, something like the command officer's uniform, but without all the other silver piping

argument was it blended in with the paint of the ship since you're constantly repainting it and you'll get paint on your uniform.

which makes me wonder why they only came out with synthetic fabric. you'd think if your uniform is designed around an industrial work center like a ship, you'd have a no-melt, no-drip uniform.
