Ive been watching gunbroker for the past 3 months. They have wasrs, but none of them have the armory mark, or a year before 1980.

Try private sellers , gun shows and pawn shops. You'll find one eventually. I snagged one for 400 and put 100 of wood and work into it and it turned out good until I tried to put a rail on it until I found out the side rail was a inch higher , tilted and lightly loose so I couldn't sight it in at all with my PK 01.

Traded it for my Vepr ( had the tang cut off so my idea of putting a PKM stock on went down the drain ) and most expensive thing I put on it was a folding triangle stock. Looks ugly but feels balls great in my hands with that M72 handgaurd.

In short beware Wasr because while at first they look great just check EVERYTHING.

Yes. There is a long checklist, but if you can get most of whats on the list, you will have a rifle fit for the end of the world, twice over.

Left side of the reciever, look for a triangle armory mark, and dates between 1960-1978. This is the cornerstone of a great rifle. The armory marked ones are generally the strongest and most quality checked.

Make sure its got bayonette lugs. Why? ..well why not.

Make sure the stock sits flush against the reciever. Just signifies better quality.

Check the rivets. The rivets should be firmly set into the reciever, without pushing in the metal. The reciever shouldnot have large depressions around a where the rivets are punched in.

Make sure the opening for the magazine is relatively even on both sides. Make sure to ask if they have a magazine to test the fit. Wobble it around, and see how much it "clicks". The less, the better.

Check the rifle for straightness. Look down the sight to check, then, place it on the ground and look at it with the barrel facing you. You will be able to see if the gas tube is crooked from looking at the front as well.

Check the trigger, should be a tapco g2. Then, check every crack on the rifle for corrosion and rust. And for the bolt carrier, blued is best.

If you can get almost every item ive listed, you have a king. Never let him go, and pay the merchant his retarded gouging price. You will have a rifle worth 5 or 6 of your lifetimes.

2 guys at work have them. Never had issues, they love em. But they don't have secret /k/nowledge as to why these might be shitty guns.

My only current gun is a M91/30. I'm interested in getting something semi-auto, higher capacity, shorter length, lighter, with cheaper/more common ammo, though 2 or 3 of those traits would be good enough.

I want something I won't mind getting beat up, that I can take on camping/hiking/larping trips or use for home defense/SHTF. I was thinking SKS, but it's hard to justify when I can get this RAS for $100 more, brand new.

The VEPR seems like an excellent value for ~$750. I'm also not at all opposed to an AR, but it's difficult to find (widely) /k/-approved budget-conscious models. I also have boners for FALs and G3s, though that's going higher than I'd like to spend.

556 is a terrifying round when it explodes/fragments. But thats what everybody is RELYING on this round to do.

Infact, this round is ONLY relying on the potential to fragment or yaw/tumble. But they don't always do this. It is a very variable outcome, and they dont always do that. Its a shitshoot, every single fucking time. Their fragmentation is unreliable, and it will not happen with every shot.

Unless you have soft point ammo, but for some stupid fuckin reason, 90% of the ammo for ar is FMJ shit.

My WASR is stamped '85 and has yet to have a single malfunction or issue after 5 years and a few thousand rounds thru it. Will say that the buttstock is impossible to take off, gave up trying on that a long time ago.
