Nice, Mannlicher stocks are classy. I really want a 455 FS, just wish there was an easy way to suppress it.
>>34822736
The Mannlicher stock just looks gorgeous to me
I like the idea of the .223 too; cheap, abundant, and small enough to be used as a target shooter but still powerful enough to feel like you're shooting a real gun. I just don't get that feeling from a .22

Currently have a nice M39 Mosin, looking at my next being an M1917 Enfield. Bubba'd ones seem to go for a lot less, so might try for one of those and fix it up. Beyond modifications to the reciever for scopes, anything to look out for or keep in mind? I'll likely replace whatever wood it's got with the original design, so I'm not too worried about that.

Why is 6.5 Creed so popular all of a sudden? Everywhere outside of the US have been using 6.5 cartridges for eons, with even better performance without being restricted to a short action.

6.5 creed is more like a laser beam, it has significantly less bullet drop per second over distance and time to reach said target
then say a .30 caliber round
heavy doesn't always mean better,
i heard it bucks the wind better and has very nice ballistic co-efficience

6.5 creedmoor is popular because 308 had been king for a long time.
Now that people are doing more long range shooting they can keep the short action from their 308 and just spin up a new barrel without having to change anything else. furthermore 6.5cm has cheapish plinking ammo from Hornady so you can buy 50 rounds of 140bthp for less than 90cpr and at that price you can go shoot a bunch or teach people to shoot on the cheap.
Which Tikka T3 model should i get? I'm leaning towards .308. how common are mags?

That is a Erfurt Kar98a, that was rebuilt by P.O. Ackley into a varmint rifle in the late 1940's. It's chambered in .270 Win AI and has an E.C. Herkner Echo scope mount, the scope is a Weaver K2.5 with a prototype Litschert power booster that takes it up to 10 power.
Snagged it for a song and dance a few years back and been enjoying it's heavy ass.

Oooh. Been looking at getting one of these recently but in stainless. Cant decide between the 16 or 18. Also what do you think about the models with the black synthetic stock? Im wondering if its worth it since it only comes with 16inch barrels.
Overall, what do you like/dislike about the gun?
Thanks!

Should I save for a T3 Sporter or picka Sako rifle ? My LGS used to have the former when I was a kid, and I'd like to not purchase something out of pure nostalgia
>>34825939
I heard that .308 isn't affected much ballistically by having a shorter barrel length. But i guess it makes sense eith the power if a 308, might as well squeeze as much velocity out of it as i can. Also, the gun definitely looks better in the 18 imo.
18 inch it is, but i might just fuck around and get a spare stock in synthetic in case something ever happens to the laminate Thanks!
>>34826117
No problem, it depends on what your using cartridge wise, and if your going past 500 yards i think it would matter
Just picked her up this morning.
I used to rent one of these all the time at the range when I was still nogunz, but could never justify spending 300 on a .22 for plinking. A few weeks ago just said fuck it and bought it. 18 inch threaded barrel, fiber optic sights, drilled and tapped for a scope and it takes 10/22 mags. Really can't ask for more with a .22
Will most likely get a Ruger American in .308 as well one day. My first gun was a RAR in .223 which I've since sold, but they are overall great bolt guns. They are accurate, the controls feel great, they look sexy and they are just downright fun to shoot.
>>34825743
One is a 1940 production Remington Model 30 Express, has a Weaver 330 M.8 that was installed by Weaver before delivery. That's the rifle with the tiny scope and no buttpad.
The top rifle is a Remington M1917 converted into a sporting rifle by Charles Flaig, guy did a buttload of work just after WWII and may have been an old Nazi. It's in .270 Win with a Douglas light barrel and a Weaver K2.5 with a Litschert Varminteer power booster.
>>34826009
I will use it as a general purpose rifle, but mostly long range shooting btw
>>34822357

>>34822693

>captcha: woodstock
Sporterized (not by me) M1917 with Weaver K2.5 scope. Fajen wood stock, crisp single-stage trigger, cock on opening. Still has original barrel with beautiful Enfield rifling.
>>34822366
Get a nugget.
>>34825848
The only thing I dislike so far is the metal ten round mags. Heavy and clunky
.308 is very forgiving barrel length wise. If I had it to do over I'd have gotten the 16" stainless with the synthetic. I found this one used for a good price w/ a scope. Plus I knew who owned it previously and he took care of his stuff. Over all it's an awesome rifle.

>>34825668

>>34823981
Not the guy who passed the info but if you want a M40 or clone of one its much cheaper to build one up. A 700 receiver and Douglas heavy bull barrel along with the right stock and your golden.

>>34824069
>it's cheap (true match ammo is cheaper than low-end .308 softpoints)
>it's very low recoil, even compared to the euro 6.5's
>it's 100% compatible with any otherwise-.308 rifle, including semi's
>you can fit very heavy, very high-BC VLD loads into detachable, doublestack box mags. Unlike 6.5x47, 6.5x284, .260, 6.5x55, etc.
>it has design elements that lend to inherent accuracy
>it's capable out to around 1200m from fairly short barrels (20")

If you're a Manley go .308. Does the same thing with less recoil

Would like some opinions and advice anons.
I just built up a sort of modern m40(m70 variety) clone using a new winchester 70 in 30 06, with a featherweight barrel, and swfa 10x HD scope.
I went with a new m70 because IMO they are smoother and the stock trigger is really nice compared to rem 700, I also like the idea of the controlled round feed type actions.
I went with 30- 06 because It was the caliber used at the time, its my idea of a gun panic proof caliber, its pretty much equal to 308 ballistics wise when using factory ammo, and I can get factory match ammo for it if I want to get real accurate.
I went with a featherweight barrel over a sporter because after reading Carlos Hathcock's writings and such, he mentions switching out his heavy contour barrels for the lighter sporter barrels due to being an overall lighter carry rifle, and not needing a heavier barrel for hunting because you shouldnt need to take more than 5 follow up shots in the same area. Which makes sense to me at least, so I went even further and just got a featherweight instead of a sporter.
I went with the fixed 10x because even on my variables im usually between 9-12x. Yes, I am aware its outdated, but I like it, and the HD model I have is very good for the price I paid. I put it on a two piece talley ring/mount, since it saves weight by not having a picatinny rail and seperate rings.
Im still figuring out what kind of sling I want, but I might go with either some kind of web sling, or a montana leather sling. Im also considering switching out the sling swivel studs for wichita sling style.
>>34831111
Seems like a pretty well built hunting rifle for engagements of 200-300 M for medium ( white tail deer) sized game for an average shooter. (not saying you're average, just than most people could effectively use it)
My only gripe is the light weight barrel, personally I find a bit more weight mixed with a sling easier for standing off hand.
>>34831075
I only have a few pics that aren't surplus rifles tho
>>34831226
>>34831180
I find with the featherweight, It balances better than the sporter. The only thing I have to compare to it is my rem 700s, I have two, a sporter profile BDL, and a heavy contour SPS. And the sporter balances a bit more forward than I would like for off hand.
I sort of made this rifle expecting it to be my hunting rifle. When I go hunt deer or coyote I am usually in the prone position or using some sort of rest. I havnt shot at anything in the offhand in a long while, but I like to use the mil dot reticle to range things so I can judge distance, and with that, I utilize offhand to take a guesstimate before making my way to a better position.
The classic

And the modern.

>>34831374
Again I see your logic and agree save for the barrel profile, that comes from my background with the heavier barrel rifles, I'm in Kentucky so we don't typically get long range shots, or the opportunity to go prone.
