You can silence pretty much any rifle and that does not automatically mean you must use subsonic ammunition.

Just one example, a silenced .308 rifle can hit targets up to (even beyond) 1000 yards and still be as lethal as ever.

Cans increase bullet velocity due to increased pressure. Only if you choose to use subsonic bullets are they affected.

Cans are more or less useless, but not because they reduce damage.
