The JH-7 is about the same role and weight class as the Panavia Tornado which is a successful aircraft. However, there is no publicly available information, and it has never been used operationally, so any assessment is purely a guess.

Cheap Russian equivalents. All original planes the Chinese design and manufacture are inferior to foreign counterparts in almost every respect, not to mention they really don't design any of their engines either. The only plane that China stole and made better was the Nanchang CJ-6, which is an admittedly good aircraft. But essentially it's a redesigned Russian Yak-18.
