Suppose you lived in a country where you had to lock up your guns, would a bedside Kukri be a good enough holdout between your bed and getting to your guns?

Wew lad
Depends where your gun safe is. If it's in your bedroom, a butter knife might do. If it's in your garage, you might need a halberd.
Depends on your country. Many countries that require safes dont recognize self defense with a weapon as justified.

In my upstairs bedroom. Sometimes I lock my bedroom door at night to buy more time.

Sounds a bit extreme to me, but home invasions are rare where I live. My front door is unlocked, and my bedroom door left wide open.
Someone could open my front door and take pot-shots at me from outside if they really wanted to.

You are supposed to put your gun safe under the bed or closest closet.

I have mine in the wardrobe next to the bed.
Id be fucked legally if I used them for self defense however.
Even if legally justified I would likely lose my license just for being the kind of person who shoots someone while not wearing a blue uniform.

In all likelihood any holdout engagement would be the decider, after which getting to the guns would be a moot point either way.

As someone living in one of those countries that's bs. If someone is intending to do serious, potentially life threatining harm to you, you can fuck them up with whatever you have at your disposal. Pocket sand, knife, sword, car gun, it's all good. You're not allowed to acquire, possess or keep weapons for that specific purpose but if your well being is in imediate danger, have at it. You'd get pinnged with manslaughter if you shot an unarmed non-violent intruder but if they had a gun/knife.. load em up.
