What is the best way to produce the adrenaline dump associated with a life or death situation in firearms training? Simunitions? Extreme cardio before drills? Any other kind of force on force training? Would something semi-related like sparring in MMA, BJJ, or Boxing help you to control your body's responses to the effects of adrenaline?

Training hand to hand is great. You can hit and wrestle each other hard, even 100% without killing each other as long as you stop when someone can't defend themselves.

Actually having another man try to hurt you and hurting him back is good for the brain. I'm scatterbrained and unfocused but when shit gets tense with someone I know if they're a real threat subconsciously if I suddenly get that super crisp tunnel vision, and get a rush of intense calm and can't look away from them.

If not for my body just knowing when it's time to fight and adjusting I'd be my usual awkward self in a fight. I've never had to pull a gun in anger but I expect to shift modes in a similar manner.

Only a true hardass whose entire personality was forged in hardship and conflict is ready for combat at all times.
You and me have to hit the gym and spar and fight to develop a good mindset, and know how to slip in and out of it.

shoot yourself with .22 to
a. get used to being shot
b. develop immunity to being shot
c. be able to return fire while shot

>starting with .22

terrible advice

OP has to begin by building up an immunity to knives like the rest of us

actual fear requires risk, so you'd have to incorporate some actual risk involved in your training which is about as reckless as it sounds.

Do things like BJJ, attend a Shivworks class, and even competitive shooting. There's nothing more of an "oh shit" when you're competing with other people, especially when it's head on like force on force.

No. It doesn't work like that. It doesn't matter how many times you have an adrenaline rush, you're going to respond the same way, and you're not going to be able to control it. Trust me. Whenever you get that rush, you're attention is going to narrow down on the threat, and nothing else.

The only reason you would put yourself in stressful situations is to desensitize yourself to specific stimuli, so you don't elicit a strong response. And that doesn't carry over. Sparring can help you think straight when you're getting punched at, but not when you're getting shot at. Getting shot at will help, but I don't recommend that. No amount of simulation will cure it, either. You're anxiety caused by a simulation is a hell of a lot different than the anxiety caused by the real deal.

The best thing you can do is be deliberate in your training. Be thorough, rigorous, and consistent. Because if you ever find yourself in a stressful situation, it's going to be your training that saves you, not your heart rate.

Aside from that, yes, take a martial art, do cardio, do some lifting. Do all those other things, because they will help, but not for the reasons you're asking.

easy peasy.

Do Western boxing so you know what it's like to get punched in the face multiple times.

Humans are hardwired to protect the face, and getting over the initial lizard brain reaction of a hook to the snoot goes a long way to inoculating yourself against the standard reaction that can also be transferred to other situations.
