Except they're not calling it a recall, they're calling it a

when they should be issuing a recall Right Now because they sold tens of thousands of unsafe guns to people.

And if they don't do something like a recall or a buyback they won't be able to recover from this disaster in the next 10 years.

Think I'm exaggerating? Remember what happened to Smith and Wesson?

What were people expecting? This is the purpose of the trigger safety. Either you can have a pistol that's fully drop safe, or you can have a striker-fired pistol without a trigger safety. You don't get to have both.

Chances are quality control caught this, and was told to approve them anyways, because they have to make the ship date. That's usually how it goes.

Once it becomes repeatable, it's no longer a "QA" issue and more of a "some engineer OK'd the intern's work without checking the math" issue.

I can only do my job and pre-empt their fuckups in the process, attempt to pre-empt my fuckups, and then hope that my checker (the licensed professional in this whole chain) is also trying to pre-empt everyone else's fuckups.

That's if the company has never heard of Edward Deming, which mine hasn't.

By modifying the FCG before delivering units to the M17 customers. I wager they're not losing this contract, like some here are thinking.
>>
>>34803390
RIAs are a faithful reproduction of the original design. New production Colt civvie pistols are overpriced, but of good quality. Dan Wessons are pretty good, as well. We can also get into the hand-fit territory of things, like Wilson Combat and Nighthawk Custom, but those probably aren't quite as relevant to the scope of military procurement.

Granted, I don't think anyone that makes 1911s is quite able to meet the demands of an army contract at the moment.

ultimately, a 1911 with a hammer locked to the rear by a manual safety is going to be harder to set off than a P320. It is possible to make the firing pin move, and there is no FPB on the series 70, but it's not as unsafe as what we're seeing with the 320.

No, dipshit, I can do that by eye. Obviously the longer barrel and greater girth due to the slide means the P320 is better for anal stimulation than an Iver Johnson revolver. Although the hemispherical front sight on the Iver Johnson would be more gentle on sensitive tissues.

In modern combat, the guy carefully lining up his shots will lose to the guys dumping rounds in his general direction. Odds are one will hit and disable him anyway, and even if they don't the stress from having rounds passing inches from his skull will throw off the concentration of all but the most hardened soldiers.

>recklessly
Anything that doesn't risk friendly fire is fair game. Training hundreds of thousands of soldiers to sniper levels of precision is simply not worth the time when volume of fire will more than make up for it. The US military spends over $600 Billion a year, we can afford our soldiers missing with 25 cent bullets.

not even SigIDF, but that's comparing a cocked P320 with an uncocked Iver Johnson. The revolver only solves the problem of "how do I make the firing pin rest directly on the primer when not in use", not "how do I make the trigger not pull when dropped".
Sig needs to get on that shit ASAP, but at the same time please load an Iver Johnson, cock it, and then hammer the hammer or drop it.

LiPo/LiFe batteries that are required for the energy density needed to power such devices will explode/catch fire from simply piercing the casing of the battery. This is true of every single make and model of smart phone powered by one. >Sig is shit everywhere you go.
bullcrap the best gun i ever shot was a sig, it was perfect in weight distribution accuracy smoothness and ergos. glock felt like a piece of crap in my hands compared to it and the trigger pull on the glock still gives me nightmares.

except.
They aren't that complex. any illeterit fuck wit with an internet connection can learn to take the whole thing apart to basic components and put it back together perfectly in a day.

i know this because i am an illiterate fuckwit with an internet connection and i have used said internet connection to learn how to tear apart my guns and put them back together.

Field stripping a gun and designing, machining, and engineering are completely different.

Polymer receivers costs about about $3 to produce. That will give you and idea of the profit margin on plastic guns.

A friend owns a transmission shop. I was talking to him one day and he was replacing some thrust washers. They were plastic. I asked him why.
>he said if you could save 25 cents on a million thrust washers, that would be alot of money.

That's some retarded safety. It's like they wanted to merge 1911's hand grip safety with a normal one, and ended having a clusterfuck of what the fuck are you fucking doing.

The M9 was literally fucked by the .mil

DOD refused to let Beretta update the TDP for Gen2/Gen3 locking blocks, frame upgrades, and then aftermarket magazines decades before the M9A3.

I'm just sad that I'll never see upgraded M9A2s

This.

How fucking stupid to say "we wore out our last batch of duty weapons after putting them through sandbox torture like no sidearm has ever experienced before. They performed damn near flawlessly even with use, abuse, and shitty maintenance. So...let's go find something else now..."

Because it's an object lesson in how trivial it should be to make a gun drop safe against blows to the rear of the action.

>Spend my life shitting on Sig and especially the 320 for being a janky solution for a striker fired polymer handgun

Feels good man. They're a shit company that craps out average designs with average qc that sell at above average prices.
>>
>>34810065
You still don't seem to grasp that different designs require that drop safety be approached differently, and involve trade-offs.

oh, you sweet, innocent child. you are too pure for this cold, cruel world.
>>
>>34806511
its more complicated than that.

the bending pressure you have to put it under was more than any normal use would ever see, I mean who the fuck trys to break their phones by bending them? some women and men put on pants that do not fit and subjected the phone to substantial pressure, thats how this shit started.

apple for its part I don't believe ever changed materials they used to make the phone, but in an effort to make it thinner (also cheaper) took out some of the supporting ribs which allowed it to be bent when in someone fucking dilutionals pants.

SAA can be fired with one hand without one in the chamber, so they're not really in the same tier.
>>
>>34810962
Except it actually is a legitimate argument when a modern day firearms manufacture makes a pistol that doesn't include a design that has been in existence for over 100 years, and then said firearm company knew about the failure for close to 8 months and did nothing about it. It speaks even louder when when the company submits the same version of the pistol for the military trials, and it doesn't have any of the issues associated with the civilian version. That lets any person with an ounce of brain matter in their skull know, that the company knew about the problem, and did nothing about it until some one got hurt....which is exactly what happened.
>>
>>34813579
Yes hello welcome to modern manufacturing. There's a lethal problem, but fixing it would cost more than settling out of court? Fuck the victims then, we're not fixing it.
