when did people start calling these "technicals" or "tacticals"? Did Michael Bay with 13 Hours invent this term?
>>34800549
>The term technical describing such a vehicle originated in Somalia in the early 1990s. Barred from bringing in private security, non-governmental organizations hired local gunmen to protect their personnel, using money defined as "technical assistance grants". Eventually the term broadened to include any vehicle carrying armed men
you have google don't you, cuck?
>>34800569
Weren't "technicals" a thing since the Libyan/Chad war?
>>34800586
wait thats fucking wood isnt it ? or badly cut steel ?
>>34800653
its wood. Philipino troops invading marawi used wood to protect against RPGs
not sure how effective that is though.
>>34800653
it specifically states it is the armor of god
>>34800646
hold the fuck up are those S5 rocket pods? Wouldn't they get blasted in the face with exhaust the moment they fired them?
>>34800804
Either they're just riding desant or the pod turns to the side when it actually has to fire, like proper MLRS do.

The idea of modifying a non-military vehicle with weapons and using it in a military setting goes back to the invention of motorized vehicles. The first armored cars were non military cars with armor and machine guns put on them.

That's interesting. Seems like it could work if it's airgapped like slat armor. Could be lighter than steel slats. Probably on par weight-wise with aluminum slats but easier for makeshift armor. I would worry about splinters from the explosion though.
>>34805497
That is not how slat armor works.
>>34805497
Slat armor =! Spaced Armor.
Also spaced armor is mostly a myth when it comes to modern HEAT warheads.
>>34800511
>>34805730
>spaced armor is mostly a myth when it comes to modern HEAT warheads
>>34805751
He is right, its a function of how spaced armor works (increasing stand-off distance) and advances in ammunition. Old HEAT rounds used to be fused to go off at the ideal stand-off range, however with modern HEAT ammunition this is not possible as the ideal stand-off range as increased along with penetration, as more penetration is gained for a given cone diameter the ideal stand-off range (measured in cone diameters) also increases. The result is that now unless you have a truly significant air gap created by the spaced armor you will actually increase the effectiveness of HEAT projectiles.
This is part of why spaced armor has fallen out of favor, slat armor is more effective.
>>34805751
If you are referring about the chains in the back of the Merkavas, you have over a meter between them and the turret, in this case they do make sense.
Modern tanks usually employ spaced armor to disrupt kinetic penetrators, not HEAT.
>>34805575
sorry I'm retarded, I'm thinking of spaced armor

The planked up apc's are going against a bunch of really old RPG-2s. The opposing militants do not have modern AT weaponary.

Technically invention of the Benz Patent-Motorwagen did predate that of the Tachanka, so that doesn't disprove his point.
Maybe a Zamburak or even just a chariot would prove your point better.
