How do you not make a modern gun drop safe holy shit
>>
Wait, call me a brainlet, but did Sig actually fail dropfire tests or is this from some obscure youtube channel?
>>
>>34793963
No there are multiple reports from varying sources of p320s going off when dropped
>>
>>34793963
>>34793952
but it is drop safe... the tests only called for the gun to be able to land on the ground in 2 different angles, well the angle they found it firing in was one that isnt tested for, and if you watch the video they say its a very specific weight of the trigger that is causing it, when they used a lighter trigger it stopped doing it.

if the test only calls for angles A and B to be drop safe but not C, guess what you not going to test for C because you dont need too.

Great job, Sig.
>>

>our gun is drop safe, but only if you drop it in a specific way
>>
>>34793963

Basically they didn't "fail the drop test" because the test they went by was pretty specific. It involved only dropping it on it's side or straight along the the bore axis so muzzle down basically.

When people first caught wind of it failing some drop tests people went ape shit. Lots of Glock fags were all "PFFTT OMFG SEE IT SUCKS" and lots of fags that bought it were like "Pfft no you stupid you don't know what you're talking about because of these reasons, it's just a bad rumor" Some police agency stopped letting their cops carry it but quickly went back a few days later. Sig was all "no see it's drop safe you were just reading an older manual police agency" because the older manual had a warning about not to drop the gun because it might go off.

Well a company that sells guns actually tested it out on a few guns, dropped them every which way and discovered that yeah they do go off when you drop them if they land as they do in the video. They also discovered that swapping out the trigger for a lighter one resolved the issue mostly. They think its the momentum of the heavier trigger is related to the problem.

I really don't care personally. But what I do enjoy are the hoards of people that jumped on the P320 bandwagon just because it was adopted by the military and acting like it's the best fucking gun on the planet and seeing them get all defensive about it now. It's pretty funny.

We really need country flags on /k/. I can't tell if you are just trying to get a rise out of me by trolling while LARPing as an idiot, or if you honestly don't know because you come from a country where you have no hope of ever being able to handle or shoot one and you just believe what you read on /k/.

You have to REALLY screw up your grip in order to limpwrist a Glock. Most people are unable to cause a limpwrist malfunction, even when they try. This only comes into play for children, whose hands are simply too small to hold the gun properly, and women, whose hands are big enough, but whose brains are ill equipped to follow instructions on how to grip the gun.

>>

the main thing is the trigger, the modern firing pin block which is supposed to stop the firing pin from moving forward unless it's disengaged by the trigger pull.
Thing is, when the sig is dropped, you can plainly see the trigger bouncing back, so the gun pretty much pulls the trigger through sheer physics.

Blanks don't do that in handguns.
We get full power Fiocchi blanks for our EVOs with blank adapters. A couple of times I tried them out in a SP01 Phantom for shits, and it didn't move the slide at all, nor did it have anything you could call recoil. It basically felt like a capgun.

>>34795698

Neither will a live round, since >95% of the powder will burn behind the projectile. This is a blank.
>>
>>34795689
>I don't understand why the slide isn't recoiling at least a little bit.
All of the energy is going into the turning in the air action of the gun. Imagine that it is the most limpy wrist malfunction imaginable. There's almost no resistance to the reaction against the cartridge's action so the slide doesn't move much if at all.

Give it a couple weeks. Omaha Outdoors (or whatever they're called), already formally informed Sig of their discovery, and released it to the public. I wonder how long Sig has known about this, though. They had that little warning in their P320 manual saying the gun could fire if dropped. Was that warning always there, or did they sneak it in after they made this discovery?

Either way, they have to start moving I would think. It's only a matter of time before someone has an accident or an "accident" and tries to sue the shit out of Sig.

I maintain the Beretta was the logical follow-up to the original contract and would save on both armorer training, spare parts, and training time. Just get a compact one if women and small-hands men have so many issues with the full-size one.

Not the problem.
If you actually paid attention, you'd see the travel due to inertia is far too short to be the cause of the gun going off.

Just going by the video in the OP, the trigger moved back like 4-5mm. Surely it would go off by then?

>They also discovered that swapping out the trigger for a lighter one resolved the issue mostly. They think its the momentum of the heavier trigger is related to the problem.

Obviously. You can see it clearly in the video - the trigger keeps moving after the frame strikes earth, so it "pulls itself." That's why it has to hit at the exact right angle.

It's the same risk you have with captive inertial firing pins. You can reduce the momentum of the trigger by making it lighter, and if they combine that with a slightly stronger trigger spring (even a half-pound would be overkill) it'd make it completely impossible.

Kudos to the guys who found the problem though, one less issue.

They developed a paddle style safety trigger like the glock during the trials I think, I bet that's what the upgrade is.

The regular triggers are the ones having this issue, the fancy race gun with the lightened trigger didn't have issues in the drop test. The fact that trigger weight has a chance to make it fire means someone fucked up somewhere.
Like what if someone puts grip tape on their trigger or something and even with the new lighter trigger (without a paddle), it goes off?

You nailed it right on the head. Not only issued to morons, morons buy them also. I am a NRA instructor. The amount of morons that cannot comprehend firearms safety is astounding. In my State you have to take a mandatory NRA certified safety class before the State will issue you a gun licence. This is where I come in. No matter how safe you make something someone will find a way to make it unsafe. There are people that take my class I hope fail it. As a second Amendment supporter I pains me to even want someone not to enjoy their right. These people are future gun statistics and this fuels the gun grabbers. I grew up in gun culture. The Old timers that taught me were extremely competent. This new generation raised on video games. This was their first contact with guns. The cancer games have created around guns is frightful. It makes fuddlore less annoying.

every oopsie I've seen with a glock has been attributed to user error.

trigger safety is definitely good for a drop safety. It'll prevent the trigger / trigger bar from moving back (as long as it's designed properly). Firing pin safety will protect it when falling against the muzzle, trigger safety will protect it when falling against the rear of the slide. Without the trigger safety the trigger and trigger bar could still move which would in turn move the firing pin safety.

>>

>>34801721
That doesn't contradict it having to do with the trigger. The only force applied when dropping the gun is (relative to the frame of the gun which is of course all accelerating due to gravity relative to the ground) the force of it hitting the ground.
It isn't the falling that makes the gun go off, it's hitting the ground. From the gun's point of view hitting it with a hammer is the same as hitting the ground. It could still be trigger inertia since the hammer (and the ground) simply apply force to the frame of the gun, moving it relative to the trigger.

Details on how to get the new trigger come out Monday
>>
>>34801834

The way the guy's holding it makes it virtually impossible for trigger inertia alone to be at fault.
>>
>>34801876
He's not exactly preventing the whole thing from moving. The action is still accelerating relative to the trigger because of the force of the hammer. I don't think loosely holding the grip is preventing acceleration of the trigger relative to the action.
Of course I'm not entirely convinced that the issue is with the trigger in the first place. But this test doesn't rule that out.

I think it's because in this test they loaded it with a blank round. Which explains why it goes off but doesn't have enough energy to cycle.

>called me a dog fanboy
>he just couldn't read
>called me a noguns
>I have a gun
>said Winchester have aluminum receivers
>I dont even know what to make of that

I don't even care about the name calling, you can't admit putting a live round in a gun and dropping it, expecting it to fail is retarded.

You'll reply to this because you don't know how to do anything but damage control at this point like you have been doing for 5 hours. But you wouldn't have made a single coherent point towards the former. Because you messed up, and you know it.
>>
so, shitposting aside, which is impossible for fanboys but possible for reasonable people, what are the LEGAL ramifications for this, knowing these are out in the world. say someone you know uses one, are you obligated to tell them? are you allowed to refuse to work with them or stay away from them?

WHAT if he drops it and your RIGHT there. do you go for the catch? would liability move to you if you tried but fumbled it? say you touched it on the way down and it went off and hit a cop down the road in the eyeball, whose going to get the blame? what if upon seeing him draw it out i scream and dive to the floor?
>>
>>34803475

I know it's a long shot but since it used commiefornias test for a safe pistol the state gets sued for billions and has to burn to the ground.

or the public realizes the *safe pistol list* has nothing to do with safety.
>>
>>34803475
In the manual they say to carry without one in the chamber to cover their ass so there may not be legal repercussions.
>>
>>34802585

you seem to be upset, are you STILL posting? and your gun does look like trash, I wouldn't be shocked if you don't even have a buttstock for it. First guy is right, don't get into guns and dedicate your autism to something easier for you, like toy trains.
>>
>>34802429

be prepared to get hit with a truck load autism.

>>34803594
that is full on fucking retarded. does any other manual say that? what's the point of having a gun then?
>>
>>34803594
right, but its not like when you chamber around it permanently sticks to your hand forever until its empty
>>
>>34803662
Yeah but it's the same in any other gun that's not perfectly drop safe. An old 1911 you carry with the safety on, an old single action revolver with no drop safety you carry uncocked, etc.
>>
>>34803687
right, so if i dive out of the way of someone carrying one of these, instead of trying to catch it, and someone dies...
>>
>>34803709

I was taught never to try and save a gun from being dropped. If it's falling, try and fall first.
>>
>>34803598
>don't get into guns unless you have a bunch of stupid ideas and are willing to defend your autism to the death
From the sig fanboys I can understand this but still am not certain what that has to do with dropping an unsafe gun on the ground but you do you, friend.
